mack Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 An atrocious penalty decision followed by a retake call has gifted Sydney United a 2-1 victory over the Western Sydney Wanderers. Controversy both on and off the field are the main stories to come out of the scrappy 2-1 loss. Those who attended on a perfect night for football paid witness to an end to end struggle on the bumpy Edensor Park surface. The off the pitch controversy reared in the early stages of the match when a single firecracker was let off in the Sydney United supporters corner. A massive police over-reaction followed. Police charged the group with batons, capsicum/pepper spray and police dogs and cleared the entire bay. Pictures from the match showed groups of police signing out members of the public, strangling them in chokeholds and blasting them with pepper spray. There was no reason at all for police to even be in the bay following that single firecracker and attacking the entire group with batons does not come close to 'necessary force'. Looking from the viewpoint of a member of our active support, this is another reminder about the brutality, disdain and lack of respect the police and security have for active support. It also should be another example that any one person can create a situation where an entire platoon of police will charge and attack our supporter group. As a group we must remain vigilant to avoid giving the hired goons a reason to charge us with their batons and pepper spray and police dogs. On the pitch the Wanderers conceded their first ever goal just before half-time. A United corner was not cleared by the Wanderers defenders, the ball bounced around the goal square and was turned in by Sydney United to give them the lead. Kubi came on in the second half and again was explosive. His pace and direct running caused a lot of problems for the United defenders. Mark Bridge equalised for Western Sydney when the United keeper, who had been performing admirably all night, spilled a shot into his path. Bridge made no mistake with the simple tap-in. The on-field controversy was a major blunder from the referee in awarding Sydney United a penalty when the game was evenly poised at 1-1. Tyson saved the penalty only to see the referee order a re-take. Tyson was unlucky on the second attempt as the ball squeezed past him to give United a 2-1 lead. Wanderers pushed for a goal to draw the match but came up short. The referee again making a blunder as he failed to allocate any time added on despite multiple goals, the penalty decision and constant substitutions. The Wanderers will feel both hard done by and disappointed at their effort on the night. Mooy again did a great job in midfield but on the whole the midfield lost the ball too many times when playing against a team at the level of Sydney United. The cohesion on the flanks was not quite together. Overlapping runs were either ignored or passes were made too late or too slowly. It is still quite early on in the pre-season but work will need to be done in addition to more signings. I am quite impressed at the defensive work. Tactically the group appear nicely compact and keep their shape well. Topor-Stanley is dominant across the back 4, with Covic at the back the Wanderers look like they will be a resilient outfit when defending. The RBB had a great night, the sound and numbers are really coming together. Several adhoc chants completed the evening for the supporters even if we went home disappointed with the referee ruining the match itself. It was also good to see the RBB sticking together at the end of the match. The Wanderers next scheduled match is Friday the 31st of August against Melbourne Heart. The match will be at Oakes Oval, Lismore, in the far north of New South Wales. Click here to view the article
Pup55 Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Was a Deadest shocker. The earlier penalty claim (when the 7 went down in front of the rbb) was more of pen than the one that was given
Gonzalo Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 RBB was once again loud and proud, together during the good times and with you even more in the bad times...
StillWandering Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 lol give the fans what they want I guess.
shakeyourface Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Dodgy penalty call and even dodgier for a retake on that penalty kick! What the hell was that about?! Well done with RBB guys, heard loud at the other side and I loved how you sang louder even when we a goal down.
DeeDee Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Was an overall disapointing night. Besides the RBB and thier behaviour. Although i thought the RBB was quite small tnite you guus were loud and really grew into the match. On the field, we performed well for 10 minutes then it was quite horrible to watch, although we were missing some key players. The second half was apmost all youth players aswell. The pitch was bumpy as hell, so passing was difficult. I must say im not impressed with Caira as of yet. Hope he improves. And number 11 on the wing was horrible. I also walked into a few players around the stadium. I walke into Tahj (who was eating subway) and Cole. An also walked past our 2 croatians and the new german guy.
ge0rge10 Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 The pitch was horrible, and the 11 was shocking!! (Wasn't Tarek, was it?) I thought Caira did alright in the middle, much better than the Spartans game. Good seeing Kubi come off the bench, bit of excitement!!
Pup55 Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Even tho it was a dodgy pen, why were we creeping in the box before he took the pen and gave him a 2nd chance ? That's amateur stuff
BigDukes Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Kubu looks great. Don't ready to much into the game...it was a good test. We definitely have to improve to compete. Dissapoiting crowd really...probably cause of the cover charge

But I agree, that number 11 was shocking.
ge0rge10 Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 I assumed it was Tarek in the first half, but when I saw him after half time I was doubtful, how bad he played should've given me a clue!!!
DeeDee Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Yeh we missed elrich alot out there. Apparently number 11 may get a youth contract. I seriously hope not!!
ge0rge10 Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Youth contract wouldn't be too bad, at least if he's young he can improve, a lot!!! And if he doesn't then we just cut him free at the end of the season.
WanderersFC Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 No 11 and 9 were shocking. Better not sign them. Haliti abit selfish, Bridge as always useless. I have to say Mooy and No 8, i think it was Trifiro were good, they keep improving every game.
Taurus Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Was a Deadest shocker. The earlier penalty claim (when the 7 went down in front of the rbb) was more of pen than the one that was given Both were blantant dives. Simulation is alive and well.

I'm a Bridge fan, but he wasn't great tonight, but playing as the lone striker isn't his position. He's much better playing deeper and prob on the left.
amicolli Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Mooy and Kubi were too good. Who was the left back in the 1st half? bloke had no clue.
ge0rge10 Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 When we have to pay $15 into the game you'd think we'd at least get a sheet of paper with the players names and numbers on it! Even Spartans could manage it!!!
Erebus Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Kubi basically created our goal on his own by beating 2 players and cutting a pass back. Will tear defences apart if he comes on as a sub around the 65th min

Boban Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 I must say I was not impressed with anyone other than Kubi. He has some real potential to cause some damage if he just learns when to take them on and when to lay it off. Tended to try a bit too hard at times, rather than take the simple option which made him predictable after a while. Still, a good prospect if just a little unrefined at this stage. Possession was not valued by either side and the pitch did not help. I really cannot believe how bad it has become now after years of being one of, if not the best football pitch in the land. I must say that was an impressive bunger. I was just thinking flares would be good, but that made everyone I was sitting with, jump up and pay attention! Do you reckon we can get some made up with WSW logos? I tell you what, if WSW continue to play like that, I will be giving away family passes to Parramatta stadium. I know it's early days, but that was pathetic football. BTW- the penalty retake was valid. I have photos of the 19 being in the area before it was taken.

I know it's early days, but that was pathetic football. It's going to take time, try to stick by them for at least a little. They have played much better at the other trials but they remain just that, trials. I'm sure we will be more suitably impressed once the proper team takes shape.
ge0rge10 Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Considering we were missing half the first team, it wasn't too bad. And on a shocking pitch! The ref was Kris Jones, who I'm assuming is Kris Griffith-Jones, and is an A League ref, and is absolute rubbish week in, week out, not just tonight!

Not giving up that quickly, but I am also not going to torture myself if it is that ugly week in, week out.

Guess I'm just a sucker for punishment lol. Plan on sticking with them no matter how hard times get, will just give me more of a reason to focus on the chanting. I'll avert my eyes and watch the big screen when we score lol.
