SST have confirmed Ono is leaving to join Sapporo at the end of the season.

Leaving us like the true gentlemen he is.

Good luck to him. I'm sure he will go down as a club legend and someone who put us on the map.

A bit like Dino.... :ninja:

If Ono finished the season and ACL with us, I would lose no respect/love for him.

Nobody can blame him for wanting to back home to Japan and finish his career there, he does have a family to think about.

If we were professional footballers in Japan, wouldnt we want to come back home to Australia eventually?

A bit like Tim Cahill will eventually want to come home to finish off his career... :ninja:

How reliable is that news from SST ?

If these runours are true, he leaves with all my respect.

To be completely honest, i think it suits both parties also. He is a class act and a top player. Buts its evident to even me of late (im a huge fan) that hes declining now and hes strugled to conpete for a full 90 minutes. The last 3 or so games he has come up with some key contributions but has really been almost absent when we need him and struggled with consistancy that he had in an abundance last season. Likewise it could be said about Mooy and im not sure if the 2 are linked.

Cahill would be a fine replacement!

I don't think he had his best game in the Derby. You can tell there is something on his mind. Same with Hersi in my opinion.

For me he hasn't been the same ever since that news came out about him wanting 500k a year. Is trying to live up to that price tag but not nailing it with the freedom he had last year

Regardless when or how shinji leaves this great club, he will always be a legend at the wanderers :)

Too early to call a 'Shinji Ono grandstand'?

Will definitely be sad to see Tensai go at the end of the season. As one of the 'wow, is Ballack coming to the Wanderers' crowd I was a little unsure about Shinji but he has time and time again demonstrated his gold-plated champion status. Of the three marquees from last season any reasonably intelligent pundit would have to say he was the best not just in terms of on field performance but also his vital role in helping to create the legend that was our first A-League season. You can't tell me the Juventus diver, Heskey or the mooted Ballack could've done what Shinji has.

I feel a little like how it was when the likes of Peter Sellers died, or Graham Chapman, or Kelly Groucutt (look that one up folks)...the original Wanderers are slowly morphing into something new. I'll always be there for them, but still...it does hurt.

He's been great and worth every cent. Absolute success. I hope we see a few Shinji jerseys floating around at the games in years to come.

Let's hope those weekly no shows start to turn up to see one of the best ever to grace the A-league in his last few games at Parra.

Farewell Shinji and good luck with your career. Thanks for the memories!

How we treat our departing marquees is an investment into acquiring future potential marquees. Player networking is big business. All it takes is for word of mouth from one big star to another about how they enjoyed it here and how much they were respected by our club and our fans. This could be the difference between signing a second division reject and a first division legend.

I hope they retire his number. 21, forever Shinji.

Sad to see him go.

A joy to watch.

He is and will always be a WSW legend.
