His contract termination and signing actually got on an ABC radio sports report with more than 2 sentences spoken :shout:

And I saw it on the ABC news as well.

Struggled massively in the 3-5-2, looked a victim of the system.

Last 2 games in the 4-3-2-1 and 4-1-4-1 ive seen a new James Troisi.

Creating lots of opportunities, making key passes, working hard, getting stuck in.

Hopefully the change in system takes him to a new level in our squad.

Watch, he'll do well there. There is still some sort of player there - not what he was but the glimpses we saw and the few good games...

Possibly but I can't think of a player I've been so glad to see the back of

Why specifically?

He's an anti Vax nobhead

His on field play was dreadful apart from a couple of ok games early on

He slowed every attack down

Who can forget his standing in the box with the ball for an eternity only to lose it

He's past it

He didn't look remotely arsed for the last 6 or so games

As captain in arguably one of our worst performances in the club's history he took zero responsibility and disappeared after instead of acknowledging the fans.

To be fair, did the fans ever like him?

Besides the point. He's had more clubs than a deck of cards. He goes where he can scam a high paying contract.

If you are the captain, that's what you need to do. You are the face of the team, not just some ****er in an armband, and it doesn't end with the final whistle. You need to have an understanding of the club and what it means. Troisi either didn't give a **** or was too pissweak to go over and do what needed to be done.

The one excuse he has is that Robinson probably gave him the armband. Too bad though. That was his moment to show what kind of a person he is, he failed to grab it, just like he failed time and time again to move the ball usefully when under any sort of pressure. The latter I am more able to forgive, to be honest. It's the a-league, we can't all be world beaters.

This guy has to be on drugs...there's NO WAY Troisi was one of the best on the field. He was not consistent.

Plus for him to say that Troisi was "a leader on the pitch" is bollocks. I replied to him saying that Troisi would be the second worst captain that the club has ever had with McGowan being first because McGowan would f*ck up and blame someone else in the back 3 (or 5 at the back) for giving away a goal.

Troisi DID NOT give a sh*t about having the captain's armband. I barely saw him out there being vocal, motivation the players to give effort throughout the whole 90 minutes of the game. Unlike Rhys Williams, he was constantly yelling, telling players when to push and mark a player or when to move up on defence, etc. Even Keanu Baccus was more vocal than Troisi!

Troisi doesn't care full stop. Remember the Derby in May 2021 when he finished the game smiling and laughing with Barbarouses when we'd lost 1-0 when he made 1 cross, 20 passes, 0 shots on target, 0 assists, 1 winning tackle and lost 80% of his one on one contests.

That was game taken place at the SCG? If so, I was pissed off with the whole squad for just standing there with the Sydney FC players hugging, giving high fives and chatting after the game. It's called a Sydney Derby for a particular reason.

He was never the player we needed. A CR signing that flopped badly, his contribution was inconsistent and needed more from the 10 position that what he could give. For 2022/23 season we need an upgrade to Troisi and a person who can move the ball faster and encourages our players to make runs in behind.

Troisi was reliable in possession, could resist a press, and made some good penetrating passes. That makes some people think he’s a good player. But for an attacking midfielder who doesn’t do much defending, he should be scoring or assisting regularly.

In 41 league appearances for us he had 14 goal involvements (5 goals, 9 assists). Not great, but not terrible. The problem is most of that was in his first season where he had a goal involvement roughly every second league game (11 in 24 appearances). Last season he only had 1 goal and 2 assists in 17 league appearances.

Whether its age, injuries, a change of manager, or not caring anymore, he’s declined pretty badly. Considering he’s a year older, more injury prone, and we’ve still got Rudan, the only way he could turn it around is if it was him no longer caring. If that’s the case I wouldn’t want him to stay.

Given the timing of the release and signing announcements, I wouldn't be surprised if we tried to keep him but he opted for WU instead. (More $? More playing time?)

That's pretty likely. If we weren't interested we would have confirmed his release ages ago and the club had said we were still "in contact" with him. Troisi is the most mercenary Australian player since Dave Carney.

seems like an odd decision from Western United

"Hey, we just won the Championship. What can we do to have a better season?"

"Sign someone from the team that finished 10th"

We clearly tried to keep him and failed. The first bit of that is more worrying.

By same logic though we are still in the hunt to keep J Rod

Which is good unless his leg falls off which is likely

I'd rather we keep try and Rodwell than Troisi...there's more upside to Rodwell.
