it was coupled with arab, means it comes into this as an issue.

I think everyone has made ignorant comments of race/religion in the past most of us regret it and say sorry to those who were offended.

Can anyone offer any insights what happened when a Barca player was offering words of kindness towards Ozil during a classico a couple of years back? I recall Ozil being very upset at the time, but I do not recall if had any consequences for anyone.

Do you think other active support groups will be issuing formal apologies for chanting "Habibi ole ole"?

Yes, but racism is about perception, eye of the beholder stuff, what may be racist to one may not be to another, some are easily offended, to others its water of a ducks back.

Most notably though, its all about who it is that makes the comment or action that make those comments or actions racist or not.

.

Based on that, my perception is, this is only racist when the Cove do it.... :woah:

Sorry, just trying to lighten the mood..

i have to say, if someone said to me "hey white ****, i can't believe you think the universe is nearly 10 billion years old!"

i probably would laugh at them, not try to hit them.

but then again, i'm a reasonable, mentally stable person.

So when is Abbas getting his suspension for punching Hersi? By all means investigate the alleged racial/cultural/religious/whatever the hell it was abuse but there was clear video footage of Abbas hitting Hersi and the referee didn't act on it so where's that ban?

I love Santa. I'm ordering my away jersey right now with a big, fat number 11 on the back.

By the way, taking a note from one of Boban's comments above, opposition players should start calling Abbas a Christian cvnt, Jewish tosspot, Hindu wanker, Buddhist blowhard, Atheist arsehole, etc.

I appreciate your intentions - but I honestly think anybody who is offended by this needs to lighten up.

Are that any more words to the chant or just the chorus over and over?

That was more of a open ended question about belief/racism inter-coupling.

Nothing more I would of loved then for the two of them to walk up and shake each others hands. Have a a mass publicity stunt about it as well and a celebration for how diverse the game is and make something positive out of this. But a genuine apology if off the cards to be quite frank. The newspapers have shared the story and a witch hunt has started. They're looking for blood.

Santalab probably did say exactly that, but only had intentions to offend Abbas. Santalab has played all over the world, I seriously doubt he's actually racist.

The two players clearly hate each other, and remember after the Parramatta derby it was Santalab that was unhappy with what Abbas said!

I don't think you'd have to go that far. Mearly suggesting to him that he might be christian and eurasian might be enough to qualify for religious and cultural abuse and set him off.

On the assumption that Santalab said what is alleged then this:

I wonder what would have happened had Abbas called Santalab something?

He did call him something: a racist. Santa should sue him for defamation of character if it is proven to be a false accusation.

How about each time Santalab touches the ball we throw up the Nazi salute and chant Heil Santa to show our support of Santalab and in addition to booing Abbas, we can make a nice little tifo quoting what Santalab allegedly said and hold it up between the 9th and 11th minute

Ridiculing religion - acceptable.

Ridiculing culture - depends on the particulars. May/may not be acceptable.

Ridiculing race - unacceptable.
