Only because Vedran knocked them back.

Having celebrated his unlikely success this morning ( when I finally stopped laughing) I have to say, I don't want a repeat of that in any further WC games!

If we’re in a shootout at the WC it means we’ve made the knockout stages.

I’ll accept Redmayne in a full clown suit, riding up and down the goal line on a tiny bicycle if that’s what it takes.

Yeah...fair enough!

If GA has "big brass balls" for putting Redmayne in goal for the shootout, Redders must also have them, being prepared to look like an absolute clown doing what he does, with the eyes of the football world( and plenty of others) on him like that.

PS "Andrew Redmayne"

Should be the name on every Aussie's lips today!

LOL..  who'd have ever dreamed that was possible...for a positive reason!

PS Good on him!

What if his technique revolutionises goal keeping for ever more...

It becomes known as "the Redmayne Revolution"?

OK I'll stop now. It's just that I haven't felt this excited for about 2 5 years!

:):)

Remember when Arsenal were impressed at his performance during their friendly match against Sydney FC?

I wonder if they'll interested in signing him now?

He was so close to ruining everything, the Peru kick that hit the post he was so close to having his back foot over the line and to get extremely technical, on the final pen right as the Peru player started his run up he might have only kept the foot on the line barely, and you're not allowed to go over the line before the kick is taken even if you go back behind it.

In other words he maximised the options both times.

I'm no fan of Redmayne, but he did good. No criticism is warranted.

I was also impressed by his post match interview.

Not being a referee I don't know the exact rule but does that rule only apply once the ref blows his whistle for the kick....?....because Redmayne certainly went over the line on at least one occasion.....definitely on the first pen ( but before the whistle ) .

Has to be when the whistle goes

Peru player was in his run up so I'm sure it was after a whistle.

Very fine margins and ended up on the right side of them. :woah:

Look, good on him. He's always seemed a decent bloke - simply not the best keeper for us. The John Crawley part explains a fair bit. He plays to his strengths and has had a decent defence in front of him for the most part. Good luck to him.

We really got a good deal in the Vedran swap didn't we

One has to consider that both were good keepers before they arrived, how many times have good to very good players come to us and get turned into abject mediocrity?....I don't have enough fingers and toes for that one.

Yep.

I'm sure having Rudan in charge of absolutely everything will go a long way to fixing this pattern.

We had Zeljko Kalac as our GK coach, he didn't like Redmayne and wanted Vedran.

Redmayne was ok for us in season 1, but season 2 his blunders cost us

******* Kalac.

But even aside from that, yet another example of clearing the decks to get someone that the boss just happens to like, and it backfiring. Same old **** every time.

Redmayne was the worst keeper in the A League before joining us and only got better* at the Wanderers.

* that is, better at being the worst.

Interesting interview with Redmayne's wife about his time at WSW

The hope all but disappeared in 2017 after a disappointing stint with Western Sydney Wanderers in the A-League.

“I’m from Melbourne originally, I’d relocated to follow him up here when he signed for the Wanderers, and honestly it was the worst time of his career, it was really low,” Caitlin said.

“Andrew was not in a good headspace, or good physically really. And I’m not going to sugar-coat it, it was a really shitty time.

“And we just put our logical hats on and thought, you’ve got to do what makes you happy, and maybe I that’s not football at the moment you need to take a step back and find something else.

“One of his best mates owns several cafes in Melbourne, and we were literally thinking about moving back to Melbourne and he would pour coffee, that’s actually what it was like.

“It was a pretty dark time.
