Insane, we're gunna be in real trouble end of season with lazy clubs throwing offers at these new guys.

Hopefully he enjoys his time here. No doubt will ask for some extra coin. Maybe we can just do what Victory do and get the FFA to manipulate the salary cap for us to keep our team together.

My wife came to her first ever game when we played the Nix. She doesn't hate football but she's not really interested either.

Andreu turned a guy almost straight after kick off and she gasped "Wow! That was like a dancer!"

For context, my wife was a dancer for many years and used to teach as well. The more I watch him on the field, the more I agree with her.

Watching Andreu is watching ballet in boots.

Andreu is a ******* wizard. By far my favorite player in the squad at the moment.

Agree. Love his ball control, passing and reading of the game. I've seen/read some of his media interviews and he is articulate (for a guy whose native tongue is not English), likeable and a humble fella. Doesn't come off with any arrogance and he seems genuinely happy here. I get excited everytime a ball comes near him.

I see him being a fan cult hero for his engagement with fans both on and off the pitch.

Wanderers' Andreu out to impress Adelaide's Amor in mini-Barcelona derby

Date December 30, 2015 - 4:52PM

Parramatta might be on the other side of the world from Barcelona but the New Year's Day clash between Western Sydney Wanderers and Adelaide United at Pirtek Stadium will have a distinctly Catalonian flavour.

The Wanderers' two holding midfielders, Andreu and Dimas, came through the Spanish club's youth ranks, while assistant coach Andres Carrasco got much of his grounding in Barcelona's La Masia academy.

Another two graduates of Barcelona's youth ranks, Sergio Cirio and Isaias, will be lining up for Adelaide United. They will, of course, be coached by one of the biggest names in the club's incredible history, Guillermo Amor.

That is all before you add two Spaniards, Wanderers' defender Alberto and Adelaide forward Pablo Sanchez, into the mix. Even Federico Piovaccari came to the Wanderers from Basque club, Eibar.

But as much as it will be a reunion of sorts on game day, Andreu admits it will be hard not to get a bit giddy when he looks over to the sidelines and sees one of his childhood idols.

"Guillermo Amor is one of the greatest players in the history of Barcelona. He won the Champions League, La Liga, everything and he was a huge favourite of mine," Andreu said. "It's amazing for Australia that he is here. Many years after he retired he is still regarded as one of the best players in Spain. Everyone in Barcelona still remembers him.

"It is really special for me to see so many people who are here from Barcelona. I went to the school [La Masia academy] there, just like Dimas, and it was a very important part of our lives. It made us better players."

Western Sydney's Spanish quartet got together on Christmas Day to celebrate the occasion, although Andreu admitted the "weather was not at all like Spain in Christmas".

The Reds had a tricky start to life under Amor after Josep Gombau - a former academy coach at Barcelona - decided to quit the club and head to New York.

However, things appear to be moving in the right direction at last and the club has managed three wins in three games, putting them right back in the finals hunt. Their style of football, too, has begun to catch up to Gombau's halcyon days.

"I think that they are starting to play some very nice football for Amor. I have been watching their games and they like to keep the ball, to pass, to have possession," Andreu said "In many ways, this is similar to what we are doing at the Wanderers. It will be interesting to see what happens - we both want to play with the ball.

"They are starting to win some game as well, so we know that this will not be easy for us."

The midfielder will resume his duties in the first team after sitting out the 2-0 win against Newcastle Jets following his suspension for picking up five yellow cards.

While he never wants to lose his spot, and knows Jacob Pepper played well in his absence, Andreu can see the advantages of having a breather as the season nears the halfway point.

"After playing 11 games it's good to have a little bit of a rest. Not just for the body but for the brain as well," he said. "But every single player wants to play from the first minute. I'm anxious to play after the break, so hopefully the coach will pick me again."

The Wanderers have won eight of their past nine games - the only blemish being a 3-3 draw in Perth - and Andreu sees no reason why their good form will taper off any time soon. They are presently two points clear of second-placed Brisbane Roar.

"The reason we are playing so well is that everyone is confident in what we are doing. We all believe in each other, the coaching staff and the system," he said. "We are also working incredibly hard every day at training to make ourselves better and the results are now coming in the matches.

"If we don't change our mentality, if we don't change our style, I don't see why we can't win when we go out to play every weekend."

Back from suspension on NYD vs Adelaide. Ready to play in front of his hero Armor.

His ability to control the ball and tempo of the game was sorely missed once he came off in today's game, we looked a different side once he was subbed off. Quality player, fantastic attitude.

Agree with Panda. Baccus unfortunately could not replicate Andreu's bossing and it showed.

Let's not forget how young Baccus is, he is not at Andreu's level but he is our future & hopefully he can continual improve.

Baccus has good vision and can pass the ball well, though he lacks the defensive game Andreu possesses. Andreu has quality defensive positioning. He knows when to dive into challenges also.

Of course Prydz. Wasn't having a go at Baccus, Andreu just leaves huge boots!

Does anyone know anything about Andreu's injury?

Hopefully it's all good, he seemed to be walking around alright afterwards.

Having dimas, Alberto and andreu out will hurt us no doubt next week

I think on Fox they said he'd gone into the game with some concerns ( tight hamstring??) , and came off because the problem continued and he couldn't get full movement.

So hopefully it was more precautionary rather than an injury.  I think.

No wacking forries....

Bring on aspro for alberto, play baccus nocholls and vidisic in the middle, with bridge santa and sotirio/castellen. 3-1 win

Arrived at Sydney Airport and ended up in a shuttle bus to the Park & Car carpark with Dimas, Andreu, and the assistant coach. Sat next to Andreu and got to speak to him.

Said he felt leg tightening up. Not too optimistic about next week. Pepper and Baccus to run midfield.

That a decent shout that. Think I'd bring Santa off the bench though.

Something like this:

Redders

Neville Aspro NTS Jamo

Baccus Nichols

Sotirio Dario RowMayo

Bridge

I'd bring in Youlley in to partner Baccus. He has the best game to goal ratio in the history of our club. Romayo on the bench.

The issue with tightness is that you need to rest it completely in order to recover otherwise it just lingers. This means no training for him this week & hopefully at the end of next weekend all is good so he can get back into training. I remember Polenz suffered a similar diagnosis in season 2 & it saw him sidelined for many weeks.

It was precautionary from the perspective that if he continued that he risked any actual injury (tear) but clear that the physio/coaches felt that he could play through it & it might come good once he got into the game but unfortunately not. FCB, as there was no actual injury, this is why you saw him walking with ease at the airport.

Sorry Dimas missing next week? 5 Yellows?
