    Yearly Appearances & Goals: 2018/19: 23 (4)
Highlight: Scored on his debut for the Wanderers, against Bonnyrigg White Eagles in the FFA Cup.
Description: Journeyman midfielder who spent the majority of his career playing sporadically up and down the Germany league system before spending two uneventful seasons in Brazil. He will be hoping to reach some of the potential seen in his youth, while staying fit on the pitch. His only season for the Wanderers was punctuated by a lack of end product and a month long injury in the middle of the season where he missed 6 games. Despite producing the occasional nice looking pass, assist or goal his results never matched the hype given to him by the media and he was released.

Some nice little tidbits. I’d say 2/3 dedicated to his time in Brazil. Comments regarding: aiming to play in Japan, Korea using Australia as a stepping stone; Top 2 AL clubs could compete top of BL2, rest lower BL2;  Lifestyle is a big plus, don’t have to worry about being mobbed by fans (anonymity); Ribéry no chance, not enough money in Australia; Will he stay in Aus, could stay but open to other opportunities; Not in Aus for retirement tour, lost two years to 2 ACLs, wants to play 5-6 years & wants new experiences (could go back to Germany but doesn’t want to)

Translation: In the summer, former Bundesliga player Alexander #Baumjohann moved from Brazil to Australia. In the # Transfermarkt interview he talks about strange gaming conditions, empty stadiums, comparisons to Germany and a possible future in Asia:

Quote -

“I’m very excited and very happy to sign for such a big club like Sydney FC,” Baumjohann said.

“I came to Australia last year not knowing a lot about Australian football. However, it didn’t take me long to see that Sydney FC is the biggest club in the country by far and in all aspects of the game.

“Sydney FC’s style of football fits well with my ability and I can see there are a lot of good quality players here as well.

I was coming here to say that ABJ is more smurf than Wanderer anyway, and this just confirms it.

SFC reckon they are trying to get away from the bling, well they just bought a guy who gives nothing on the field and who has a wife whose ratio of online photos is about 95% her posing in Bondi or somewhere with hashtags talking about how sexy she is, and only 5% her kids, and even those ones she is teaching the kids to pose like vapid insta models. Definition of bling FC.

He'll probably go better for them. He and his wife seem like the type of couple that will feel more comfortable in the environment of the club they consider to be the glamourous one.

Side note, imagine the prima donnas those kids are going to be. Ugh.

Lots of outrage on Twitter & bookface.

The truth is that he is a fantastic player that wasn’t the right fit for our team last season & we never physically saw the best of him.

At the end of the day, Babbel thought that he (1) wasn’t worth what he wanted (2) could do better with another player (3) Wasnf the right fit

It’s now up to treejack to prove that he is the player we should have kept. He probably suits a team that is more dominant with possession & territory but up to him to prove that his body can be physically up to it (not just running all day either). How does he fit into their team with ninko playing 10?

Football is just a job for these guys, he was desperate to make it somewhere big in Asia but never showed enough with us to deserve that type of contract. He obviously liked it in Sydney & wanted to have another crack. Sort of reminds me a bit of pio, turning up to day 1 of Sydney FC’s training without a contract & willing to train for free cause he felt hard done by the Wanderers. Knowing our luck, he’ll turn out to be another redmayne.

yep....and the manager would be in the best place to see the players attitude week in week out. If the manager has a put in or piss off mantra then I'm all for it. We have gone past the point of accepting mediocrity and that imho is a good thing for the club as a whole.

On the positive you would think that if anyone knew the weaknesses of ABJ then it would be Babbel, he dropped him for lack of effort a couple of times as well so over a season he might be an astute signing for ESFC but in a Derby I am hoping he could be a real liability.

He's had attitude problems at previous clubs. FCB can elaborate

If they lose both O'neill & Brillante, he may be exposed to more defensive work than he countered on.

Was told that by my BIL too. Said talent wise he is better than Broich but his attitude was his undoing.

Let's see if Corica has the balls to drop him to the bench like MB.

Depends on what dollars he is on at FC, on VdL money then no dramas dropping him to the bench.

A less talented player who gives it all will always trump a Baumjohann. It's the story of his career as a football pro.

Had issues at his last BL club (Hertha). His coach (Dardai) said that Baumjohann "has his own will after 15 minutes in the game, he then deviates from the tactical line. If he was 22, I would explain that to him over and over again and correct with him. But he's 30, so I do not have the energy anymore."

He got the full treatment, trained by himself.

Broich was seen as incompatible with BL football, but it was a different story in the HAL. I was hoping that we'd see a repeat of that kind of resurrection with Baumjohann. But, unfortunately, that was not to be. Fortunately this is now someone else's problem.

OK, I have bought some glasses now so I went to her Instagram account and had a look.  Actually she is hot in a 'could be a ladyboy' kinda way.  Personally I prefer girls with a bit more on their hips to shake!

Also, did anyone else hear the commentator on last weeks FFA Cup match remark "ABJ must really love Sydney"?  Straight away made me think of Herr Babbel's comments on what kind of players we want at the club.
