He's definitely not the same player, but Ange knows him very well. If Mooy can get some of his fitness back I'm sure Ange will get the most out of him (as he did with Rogic). This is arguably a better move than a "random" Championship team as he already has a good working relationship with the manager.

I'd agree about the relationship with Ange but Ange's first responsibility is to Celtic so if Mooy is not fit/performing then he doesn't play. I wouldn't be exposing him to the Championship at this point in his career.

He was linked with a move to The Championship before signing with Celtic and there was supposedly interest from a number of clubs. I'd agree that they play too many games for him to be suitable for the whole season but it definitely seems clubs thought he'd be an asset.

Ange wouldn't have signed him out of loyalty. If he's not good/fit enough, he won't play. Ange is there to win. But he rejuvenated Rogic and I think he'll do the same with Mooy.

Plus as Celtic he'll get Champions League football and is a very good chance of winning a league title.

Are Celtic straight into the group stage this season?

Yes, Celtic will make their first appearance in the group stages in five years next season thanks to Scotland’s improved coefficient ranking that will allow this season’s Premiership champions direct access to the competition proper.

Celtic is a good fit for Mooy I think..not convinced he will be up to championship standard any more. Better he goes to a club where he plays div 1 or 2 English level standard every week.

How did Scotland get an improved ranking when Celtic went out in the qualifying stage to a bunch of no names last year?

Russia was banned and their group stage spots were given to the next two countries, which were Scotland and Ukraine (and because of that various other clubs were moved up by a position in the qualifying entry points).

But surprising only 32 could have come back and done a job of us!

Good on him for going out on top successful World Cup and a awesome domestic treble.

It is surprising given his age, hope he hasn't been forced into it due to an injury or something external to football. Agree that it's great he gets to go out on top.

On the radio news, I heard it was due to a back injury. :(

Yeah, I read that after posting. Given he's got young kids he might want to retire before crippling himself? Either way you hope he made the decision in part himself without being completely forced into it.
