  • Wanderers Confirm Parramatta Stadium for Sydney Derby

    blameturner

Western Sydney Wanderers Chief Executive Lyall Gorman has kept his promise to the fans by keeping the Sydney Derby at Parramatta Stadium in Round Three.

Tickets for Hyundai A-League go on sale nationally on Friday, 21 September. Gorman stated that be believes those who want tickets should move quickly and purchase a foundation membership, as Wanderers home games, particularly the Sydney Derby will be in high demand.

Western Sydney Wanderers FC has today confirmed that Parramatta Stadium will host the historic first ever Sydney derby in the Hyundai A-league.

Amid reports that the match between the Wanderers and Sydney FC would be shifted to ANZ Stadium, Wanderers Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman confirmed the match would not be moved.

“We listened to the football community of western Sydney and they voted overwhelmingly in favour of Parramatta Stadium as the Wanderers home ground,†said Gorman.

“That’s our home and that’s where we will stay. Parramatta is an excellent football venue and our Foundation Members will build a fantastic atmosphere for the A-League matches.

“We understand that our first ever match against the Mariners and the first ever Sydney derby will be hot tickets and that some of the public may miss out, but our commitment to our Members comes first.â€

Tickets for Hyundai A-League go on sale nationally on Friday, 21 September.

“Anyone thinking about becoming a Wanderers FC Foundation Member should move quickly,†said Gorman.

“Once the national on sale commences I think the Wanderers home matches, particularly the Sydney derby, will be in high demand.â€

    Great news!

Syd FC are telling their members they will be able to purchase tickets to our Derby 24 hrs before they open publicly.

Presumably this will apply to us as well?? And we get 10% of additional ticks??

Well done Lyall! Nice to see management treat a club and their fans like a real community asset rather than an enterprise interested ONLY in the bottom line. Keep it up!!!

    I want Gorman's babies!

Everyone remember to save and quote this article every time there is talk of moving the derby. Gorman sums it up well.

Oh, and **** Hassett at the SMH for his garbage!

We can't say that they don't listen to us.. I just want it to be loud and rowdy at the stadium. I want us to get in their faces and under their skin. Especially Del Piero's. This is a derby and there is no preferential treatment or showing respect as far as I am concerned :xnod:

Right decision by the club. Now all that will be required on the day is for Bridge to score the winner in the 90th min so all the East Sydney muppets can sulk and cry all the way home. :xbop:

    This is a great read

Asked if the Wanderers’ home game on 20 October might be switched from its scheduled Parramatta Stadium to the much larger ANZ Stadium in Homebush to accommodate the likely ticket demand, Gorman dismissed the suggestion, saying the fledgling club will stand by its commitment to the fans who had given a clear message that they wanted Parramatta to be their home.

Debate sprung into life. Twitter traffic was busy on the topic.

We all have to embrace twitter when the NOTOANZ type messages need to be raised.

It appears to be the only social media platform that is capable of getting our collective point across, in a timely manner.

Says on the ticket - "PAX" - 4,300 sold. Not bad considering it is NRL finals time, and we are a few weeks off the game.

I wonder if that is in addition to memberships?

    I think it includes memberships.

Jowel - i am PAX agnostic - alot of variables on the day - turnout, walkup crowds, weather. So figure can be off at times. :)

I wonder why they aren't pushing for extra members using the "don't miss out on derby tickets".

    • We should not be making any decision until it is confirmed we are in the finals, at the very least - and ideally any decision should be based on how we perform in the finals. We jumped the gun on Rudan and look how that turned out. I am heartily sick of promises about ‘next season’. Show me what you can do this season.
    • I think its important to get a result here whether that is a draw or a win. Getting into finals and our upcoming to games against the Melbourne sides you want some confidence and morale in the team. Getting any sort of result against Auckland is massive positive to give us momentum for the finals push.
    • imo - I'm inclined to keep Stajic with Adelaide, Newcastle, Wellington and possibly Sydney looking for new coaches, we could end up in a bidding war paying overs
