  • Robinson Redemption Begins With Round 1 Derby

    mack

The Western Sydney Wanderers road to A-League redemption begins on Saturday, the 20th of November, in a colossal Round 1 Sydney Derby at the Western Sydney Stadium.

With the club reeling from yet another dismal failure of a season, the team will face a huge test in their opening round fixture from losing Grand Finalists Sydney FC. In addition to the usual intrigue of a Sydney Derby, the match has been selected as the first to be shown on Channel 10 in the new A-League broadcast agreement.

The opening 6 rounds of the fixture list have been released, with the Wanderers heading to Newcastle in Round 2, then Wellington for an "away" game that will likely take place somewhere in New South Wales due to New Zealand travel restrictions, a South West Derby against Macarthur at home, before heading on the road against for matches against the Central Coast Mariners and the Newcastle Jets to round off the opening stages.

The FFA Cup fixture against Broadmeadow Magic has not be scheduled yet, but it would not surprise if it were played prior to the A-League kick-off. Other big games at the start of the season include a Mariners/Jets F3 Derby in Round 1, a Melbourne Derby in Round 5 and a Macarthur/Sydney FC match in Round 6.0

The Wanderers W-League team also had their first 4 matches announced, starting with a 3rd of December, Venue TBD game against Wellington in the NZ sides first ever W-League game, a Parramatta Sydney Derby for Round 2, Newcastle in Round 3 and another Derby for Round 4, this time at Leichardt Oval.

Carl Robinson has said a lot of words so far in his stint at the Wanderers, but very little to back it up on the park. Having punted a variety of underperformers like Dylan McGowan, Jordon Mutch, Graham Dorrans, Kosta Grozos, Patrick Ziegler, and watched off contract stars like Mitch Duke and Bruce Kamau leave for overseason, the squad is unquestionably his.

There are no more excuses after years of failure. There are 18 points on offer in this first set of matches, and I see the bare minimum as 12. Anything less and the club should cut it's losses quickly and get rid of the talker and bring in someone who gets results. Perhaps Sydney FC and Macarthur will get the better of us, but putting away the Mariners, Newcastle and Wellington is a must if the club is to return to competing for trophies.

I like Newcastle. The industry around the river and the smog and pollution remind me of home :)

I love sitting by the river there watching the boats and breathing in the smog. :)

I used to go out with a girl from Newcastle when I was at Uni, so I spent a lot of time up there. It was basically like a bigger Richmond, lots of P Plate bogans driving up and down the main street, yelling at girls to show their tits. It's an interesting approach to dating, but didn't seem to be successful either in Richmond or Newcastle

After reading those last two posts, have visions of visions of Jimmy Nail driving thru Boro shouting "Tits ooooot for the lads"

Just claimed my tickets for the game. I put my mouse over the link in the email and it showed a ticketmaster website, so I checked that I could long in to their site, did the inevitable password reset as it was too old, etc. to make sure I wouldn't need to do all that when I was actually claiming the tickets.

Clicked the link and it redirected to the ticketek website...

I believe row 1 is nearest to the pitch. Also when you first see the pitch map you can select the bay from the available options. I was able to get right on the halfway line by choosing my own bay.

Nearest the pitch and section 118 is the lower tier.

    Contact the Membership Team

They looked at mine as we couldn’t redeem tickets either. Hopefully resolved today.

Isn’t our FFA cup tie now confirmed for 10th November, which precedes the derby?

Got my ticket! In a different section to my usual, I actually don't mind an opt in system like this. Change it up.

Can't believe i'm worried about Kamsoba scoring a hatful against us. He has been on fire in pre season, scoring against Bulls, Jets and Wollongong Wolves.

Maybe he turns into Yeboah 2.0 from the 19/20 season, great pre-season, terrible in A-League.

Anyway, I claimed "my" ticket and ended up in Section 112. No where near my regular season ticket holding (in Section 219 - back row, top deck) and quite a shite alternative seating arrangement for me tbh. Not happy but what can one do?

I couldn't even be seated next to my mate who is normally in the seat next to me but has a separate membership and had to make his own application for his ticket. He ended up being allocated a seat just 4 seats away from me. Joy!

I'm guessing that we'll be going for a wander 10 mins after kick off and actually finding 2 available seats with a view that we actually thought we'd get this season, as well as somewhere further away from the ******* Cove.

No I didn't. Thanks for the tip.

I must say that every single time I have ever had to deal with the membership department, they have been excellent and have solved every problem.

Yep, I got in contact to get it sorted and they were brilliant.

Got seats in our allocation, not exactly same seats or bay but close enough.

Maybe you could consult them about moving you to your actual bay?
