  • Paul Lederer Stands Down As Wanderers Chairman

    mack

The Western Sydney Wanderers have today confirmed that Chairman & Part-Owner Paul Lederer has stepped down from his role as Chairman.

Lederer, the 78 year billionaire with a net worth estimated as close to $2 billion has elected to quit as club Chairman over his increasing commitments to his other business interests and for family reasons. He remains at the club as a significant shareholder and director. It is unknown at this stage who will replace him, and if that replacement will come from one of the other three owners Peter Duncan, Jefferson Cheng & David Slade, or from outside the club ownership.

His departure continues a tumultuous off-season for the Wanderers, after finishing outside the finals positions and having head coach Mark Rudan resign for his own personal reasons.

With no chairman, no head coach and a series of players departures with announced arrivals as yet one wonders how the Wanderers will manage to turn the floundering A-League Men's team around in time for kick-off for the rumoured opening round in the middle of October.

Was having a technology detox weekend went bush and just got back into service and so pleased this JC bloke appears to have stood up to Lederer and said enough is enough your stranglehold needs to be relaxed.
For years we have been hiring and firing coaches… at least the rotten head of the fish  🐠 is finally removed!

Long overdue!! Really excited by this news let’s see if how we go under a new chairman 😬

Staj quit saying he couldn't take them any further. If he was so sure of his miracles then why did he jump ship.

2 of the 3 seasons he's finished bottom

He stock was high just like popa. Coach gotta have a career. Point is Staj is a big upgrade on Rudan

So high he went to the Phillipenes women's national team? I guess the WWC was a pull to do that, but it wasn't like had big clubs knocking down his door.

But yes he will be an upgrade on Rudan, or at least lets hope so, although his A League coaching record is no better (arguably worse)

His first Philippines Women's National team contract was 10 week contract to coach the lead up to and 2022 Women's Asian Cup in a effort to qualify for the World Cup.  He turned down multiple offers from other national teams and European clubs in favour of this option.

The weren't expected to qualify. They wildly overachieved with squad largely filled with players only a handful of professional players, the others being 16 and 17 year olds playing for their high school, US collegiate players, and ex-collegiate players not attached to any club. They finished that tournament in 4th spot (higher than Australia).

Personally lets keep an eye on who Cheng decides to bring in. I mean this guy really has done the rounds in Australian and Philippine football. Very Cautious of him bringing his connections in because if you replace Gavin Costello with Gavin Costello 2.0 nothings really changed.

This point doesn't really apply directly to what you're saying, but I've seen it elsewhere, so figured I'd throw my incredibly important* opinion out there

I don't really get the whole deal with Aussies needing validation by a big club. We're a relatively tiny footballing backwater, and we just need players and coaches who are decent for our game and conditions (aka the heat and hard pitches)

Popa left us for some **** bigger club and Arnold went to Japan and failed miserably. Two of the most successful A-League coaches. That casts too much doubt over what can be achieved here. Staj is an upgrade (if we even hire him...) over Rudan purely because he isn't associated with ****facery

From Croatia 🇭🇷 to Serbia 🇷🇸 with coaching ... I wonder if footballing philosophies will differ.

From experience one wants you to run until you drop... The other one focuses more on ball control and shouts more about having shots from outside the box.

Meh. When he came to Aus for his pension season he wiped us for Melbourne - hardly the type of loyalty you'd expect from Smithfield Hotspurs' #1 son. He can stay in Japan.

I assume the silence on a new coach is due to:

    a) Trying to get names to agree to be on the list of possibilities (and thereupon potentially come here!),

    b) Trying to work out what a proper process might actuality look like (and what is actually required),  or

    c) Trying to work out what a coach actually does to write a job description...

    Is it really this hard??

Staj is already confirmed by RBTV. Not sure why it hasn't been announced yet, but we definitely have him.

It hasn’t even been announced he’s left Glory yet.

I feel if it was done and dusted one side would have announced it.

I'm not sure why neither side has announced it yet, but it's definitely done. Both RBTV and West Sydney Red on X have all the inside scoop.
