  • Paul Lederer Stands Down As Wanderers Chairman

    mack

The Western Sydney Wanderers have today confirmed that Chairman & Part-Owner Paul Lederer has stepped down from his role as Chairman.

Lederer, the 78 year billionaire with a net worth estimated as close to $2 billion has elected to quit as club Chairman over his increasing commitments to his other business interests and for family reasons. He remains at the club as a significant shareholder and director. It is unknown at this stage who will replace him, and if that replacement will come from one of the other three owners Peter Duncan, Jefferson Cheng & David Slade, or from outside the club ownership.

His departure continues a tumultuous off-season for the Wanderers, after finishing outside the finals positions and having head coach Mark Rudan resign for his own personal reasons.

With no chairman, no head coach and a series of players departures with announced arrivals as yet one wonders how the Wanderers will manage to turn the floundering A-League Men's team around in time for kick-off for the rumoured opening round in the middle of October.

If the club really wanted Staj, I'm sure one of the billionaires could grease the wheels of progress

That and Perth can't wait to see the back of him

Staj is deeply underwhelming. Serial loser for me. I see Popa has walked from Vic…

    Is he though?

Remember he was massive for Mariners going from Wooden spooners to finals contention and left the base for Montgomery to go for the seat. Staj was a miracle worker.

2 of the 3 seasons he has coached with almost no backing from the club. At Perth he pretty much lost his first 11 in Jan and couldn't bring anyone to bloster the squad

If Staj gets the gig, I'll give him a chance. He's not the 'serial loser' some have described - look at his record. He has more experience with women's teams and it is pretty impressive - NSWIS, SFC, Matildas, Philippines - both international teams reached highest ever rankings.

He took on a basket case CCM. The first year wasn't great but then 3rd after seasons well in the bottom half. Look at the team and we wouldn't have taken many of them. I wouldn't be taking many of last season's Perth team. Yes, the golden boot, but who else?

If it's him, I'll give him a go. Sam Kerr perviously described him as the best coach she'd ever had... I could be wrong but I'd have taken him (as many others here also said) after Carl.

Yeah maybe it’s a bit harsh. Isn’t an appointment to get the blood flowing though, not for me anyway.

If Lederer didn't want him then he hasn't got that kiss of death at least.

    I am hearing Bosnar gone.

This is fantastic news. if half of what I've heard about him is true, he was as bad if not worse than Rudan for culture.

Last one is Gavin Costello and we are laughing. Make his position redundant and pay him a few months salary and send him off

People are under estimating just how f--king bad that perth squad was/is. Yes they had a golden boot winner, but the midfield and back line were always injured and just atrocious when they weren't. When you consider JK, Carluccio and Bozanic signifcantly improved their output, you know theres problems with the encumbants.

Staj given time, money and support (like in his successful roles) will be just fine. Won't set the world alight, but the results will be better than we're used to

Staj quit saying he couldn't take them any further. If he was so sure of his miracles then why did he jump ship.

2 of the 3 seasons he's finished bottom

He finished bottom in a league that featured western United and the Jets while having a 20 goal season striker

As for the Mariners the guy that actually won something is available and yet we take the guy that says he set it up, but at the time quit because he hadn't

If he comes fine I'll still support the team, but what a uninspiring choice

Yeah, scoring twenty means very little when you also concede the magic number

    He never said that

The official statement says he wanted a new challenge.

The unofficial reason is the club wasn't willing to provide financial backing for the coming season.

Thats exactly my point though. He managed to feed a bloke enough opportunities to bag a golden boot, in spite of the fact his midfield is one of the worst I've seen in the last 5 years. His backline and GK options were beyond garbage. Taggs is a great stiker, he can't drag 22 other men over the line for 5 months. Defence wins trophies

I'm with you, I would rather have taken Monty, but from my understanding he was very much at odds with bosnar which ruled us out. Staj is just no where near the dud that people here are trying to make him out. He's far from the gold standard, but its not all doom and gloom

After Popa we needed a manager who had the capacity to stabilise the A-League side. That never happened. Instead, we went backwards with every manager, and to top it off Rudan blew up the backend.

There will be a new chairman, and we’ll have to wait and see if the CEO survives. The football department will undergo a major revamp, and wsw might just be starting from scratch.

If Stajcic turns out to be that man then I will renew my membership. Add Ninkovic to that, and we have a mini Serb revolution. How much fun will that be? As long as they don’t turn WSW in Bonnyrigg…

If they played some games at Bonnyrigg I could walk there.

I’ve spent about 7 years preaching Time To Go Primo and finally got my wish. The guy is an amazing businessman but was totally clueless when it come to running a football club. The last 10 years have been a joke. Can’t even keep 50% of a team together at the end of a season.

Looking back, maybe Lederer assumed all the fresh meat had a short use by date?

It looks like Cheng has been looking to gain more control of the Wanderers football side for a while

Yep, i'd heard news within the last few months that Cheng and other owners stepped in as they were seriously not happy with the direction of the club and the decisions being made.

I've been busy the last few days but the news that Bosnar has departed is good to hear.

There are a few of Rudan and Bosnar's cronies still lingering around but I expect them to depart once Staj comes in and they start to realise they aren't so buddy buddy anymore.

Im surprised the other owners didn't step in after either disastrous Babbel or Robinson appointments failed.

Especially with Lederer firing JPdM to head hunt the useless Carl.

Yes I'm not convinced this is the great thing people think Jefferson has been there the whole time
