  • Paul Lederer Stands Down As Wanderers Chairman

    mack

The Western Sydney Wanderers have today confirmed that Chairman & Part-Owner Paul Lederer has stepped down from his role as Chairman.

Lederer, the 78 year billionaire with a net worth estimated as close to $2 billion has elected to quit as club Chairman over his increasing commitments to his other business interests and for family reasons. He remains at the club as a significant shareholder and director. It is unknown at this stage who will replace him, and if that replacement will come from one of the other three owners Peter Duncan, Jefferson Cheng & David Slade, or from outside the club ownership.

His departure continues a tumultuous off-season for the Wanderers, after finishing outside the finals positions and having head coach Mark Rudan resign for his own personal reasons.

With no chairman, no head coach and a series of players departures with announced arrivals as yet one wonders how the Wanderers will manage to turn the floundering A-League Men's team around in time for kick-off for the rumoured opening round in the middle of October.

Hopefully the new chairman has good football making decisions, and can still use Lederers funds.

Yeah well, was considering renewing my membership with that creep out of the club, but tbh this is now going to be a rebuild the club instead of rebuild the season.

So @mack is your locking of the Squad Development and Staff threads a mark of respect to our departing leader?

Surely we still have a squad to "develop" by "develop" I mean let all the good kids go for peanuts and then bring back Josh Risdon and extend Clibsy's contract while also bring a random guy from BL2 who hasn't played for 2 seasons and has no interest in playing but his Mrs heard Sydney has good shopping

Just the usual temporary lock when something big breaks, to avoid cross posting and posting in off-topic places.

Is "personal reasons" just code for "pushed out" at Wanderers?

You have to think the other owners might have finally been fed up with the constant failures and decision making that has led to it and decided to do something about it......will we ever know...?

Tbh all I care about is the team performing on the pitch.

The aim has to be to win the comp....not just make finals.

    Is Staj the man...?

Who knows. We'll find out soon enough.

So what’s Stajs accomplishments across his time, beyond just the underwhelming time at Perth most recently?

He has had some success, mostly in women's football. He also took the Mariners from wooden spoon to the finals the following season. Some would argue that he set them up for the success that they are currently enjoying.

Took the Phillipines womens national team to a World Cup which is an outstanding achievement.

Finished ahead of the Matildas in the Asian Cup.

Built the structures to help Mariners become the club that it is today, taking them from last to 3rd.

All his achievements with the Matildas.

He wouldn't have been my first choice, but he has a decent track record of using youth and rebuilding clubs.

Perth he was never properly backed, no owner, poor squad and budget.

    Beat me to it. 🤣
