  • New Parramatta Stadium Revealed

    mack

The winning design for the new Western Sydney Wanderers stadium at Parramatta was revealed today by the NSW Government.

As work begins on the demolition of the new stadium, the 2019 stadium design has been unveiled. With numerous bidders for the work, the Government selected a joint bid between builders Lend Lease, and designer Populous.

Populous are well known in Australia & Asia, having designed the Sydney Olympic Stadium that the Western Sydney Wanderers are currently playing in, as well as stadiums on the Gold Coast, in Melbourne & New Zealand.

Unlike many other stadiums built in Australia, this is a purpose built rectangular stadium, and will have the steepest viewing angles in the country. There will be a single tier home end, while the main grandstand will be built with premium corporate hospital suites.

The new stadium if completed as designed looks like it will be the premier medium sized stadium in the country, and leaving all but a handful of stadiums in the dust. It is expected to be finished in 2019.

nine news said we are getting european styled terraces, safe standing? i doubt it but you never know

You would hope a bit of common sense might prevail to take the opportunity to build a dedicated football stadium with safe standing

The video showed a VIP parking area bahind the western stand so you'd have to assume the corporate facilities would be on the west side.

Either they're showing the angle of the sun in the morning or the architects have an alarmingly poor understanding of how sunlight works.

The convention for showing shadow in architectural drawings was to have light coming from behind/above to the left at 45 degrees.  Its only in the last few decades since the advent of CAD that realistic shadow has become used.

Attention to detail in the animation is impressive.

Notice the obvious drop in crowd volume when they switch to the Eels home game.

    Holy Cow!!!

What an amazing Stadium in that video.

    It's that really for us?!?

Christmas has come early this year. :clapping:

And what a present we will be getting. :)

Even if the reality is only half as good, it will have exceeded my expectations 10 times over.

The Cherry on Top would be if they make it easy to upgrade in 10+ years, when we need 40,000+.

Finally a modern sports Stadium for the people of Western Sydney!!!

How many people do you reckon think the "Kop" end will hold? I'm guessing like 8k.

    Don't call it that
lol you know full well there are heaps of stadiums with a Kop.

    And now we're getting one.

Just rewatching the video, my only gripe (and it's small), is that the stadium isn't enclosed at the ends between the roof and the seating. Meaning noise from the RBB can escape out the back below the roof. It'll still be amazing, but if it had trapped all the sound in it would be truly epic.

Many many UK football grounds had a 'kop' stand, not just Liverpool. Most grounds were built around 1900 when the battle of spion kop (big hill on the battle front) took place so the clubs named their big terrace behind their goals 'kops'.

Liverpool's became famous, but far from unique to them

Couldn't care less if it is called a kop at our place or not, seems to be a word that has caught on around other stadiums in Europe, especially Germany because of Liverpool.

Here is a picture of the kops last stand at Elland Road Leeds just for Lloydy

That's the ventilation area so the flare smoke has somewhere to go

From the Lend Lease media release:-

The $300 million stadium redevelopment project will bring Western Sydney a brand new rectangular stadium with all 30,000 seats under roof cover, plus an additional standing area with 1000-person capacity.

I assume the standing area referred to is the areas in the western grandstand not safe standing but it does take capacity up to 31k.

^^^^^ There was mention of a platform in the focus group meetings, located under the screen that could be used for watching the game.

Just remember that it was mentioned by a recent discussion from twitter that safe standing would always be regarded as 1:1 as opposed to 1:1.5 as we were hoping.

They say it will be done in 2019. Is that enough time to build a stadium in Australia?

Remember a few months ago in Japan when part of a road collapsed , it took them 1 week to re do , from start to finish and the mayor of the city apologised for the delay??!!! ......that should probs read "2119"

I really hope the media outlets haven't confused the concoursey thing as safe standing!

Then again, if it wasn't planned and they have confused it, it might ramp up the pressure to include it!

All I've heard is that a replacement pool will be built on the next couple of years. Current one looks a bit dated anyway but the Govt could have done a better job of selling that idea and not piss off the residents.

Just tell it to them how it is.... no more swimming carnivals, no more Parramatta pool, its over. I hope that this pool protest thing doesn't go on too long, can't stand the whinging. Just **** off to another pool and stop getting in the way of progress, get the bulldozers revved up and roll on in.....

    • Those days were amazing. A community feel. The fans came, the team gave their all in every single game. Win or lose the fans would applaud them for their efforts and the club would reward the fans with heaps of praise.  Nowadays the club seems more like a franchise, with no care about the team or the fans, just sales and money. It’s stale.    Those days might never return but if you are going to try you need to start by bringing in a new chairman who understands the community and a good motivational coach. Skill isn’t a huge requirement in this league, it helps but the quality is so poor that you if you are a semi decent player and try push your body to the limits for 90 minutes you will win more than you lose.   It looks like we’ve finally hit rock bottom(although I thought that 3 years ago). Sub 6000 attendances, poor football and less than 1 point a game. Let’s go back to basics, get the community involved again, have the players visit schools, workplaces, hand out free tickets, partner with the western Sydney NPL clubs instead of competing against them. Bring the jersey prices back down to a reasonable price. Actually start the marquee we brought in. That’s just the start. There’s so much more that should and can be done.
    • We had a plan for how to score, which we actually executed well. I didn't see that in the first derby. We also played with much more intensity. For long stretches of the first half we were winning our 1:1 battles, which again didn't happen in the first derby.  We lost this due to defensive lapses because we don't have enough depth in defence.
    • our defence is getting worse which is saying alot -  if we could shore up our defence - we are a top 6 team - we have the quality in attack and can transition decently id like to see Christiansen given a chance to work with this squad
