  • New Parramatta Stadium Revealed

    The winning design for the new Western Sydney Wanderers stadium at Parramatta was revealed today by the NSW Government.

    As work begins on the demolition of the new stadium, the 2019 stadium design has been unveiled. With numerous bidders for the work, the Government selected a joint bid between builders Lend Lease, and designer Populous.

    Populous are well known in Australia & Asia, having designed the Sydney Olympic Stadium that the Western Sydney Wanderers are currently playing in, as well as stadiums on the Gold Coast, in Melbourne & New Zealand.

    Unlike many other stadiums built in Australia, this is a purpose built rectangular stadium, and will have the steepest viewing angles in the country. There will be a single tier home end, while the main grandstand will be built with premium corporate hospital suites.

    The new stadium if completed as designed looks like it will be the premier medium sized stadium in the country, and leaving all but a handful of stadiums in the dust. It is expected to be finished in 2019.

    That LED strip around the stadium is ridiculously awesome. I'm gonna be so pissed off if they scrap it. Also with the memorabilia part, neeeeeds to be a statue of popa holding up the ACL trophy or something.

     

     

    What's the point of the screen in the park again? Watch the game from the park ?

    So it can only be used in the middle of the night, because otherwise Fox won't give the council the rights to show it. I'm sure all the local residents on the outskirts of the park will be thrilled.

     

    They'll probably just use it for FIFA games or something.

    I'm a bit wary of getting too enthused based on a promotional video. Even Tsatsimas hasn't see the actual plan... "We’re still waiting on the specifics of that stadium and the plan":

    One little observation... If the video reflects what the stadium will be in reality, what looks like customisable digital hoardings at each level in the stands is a concern if we're going to be constantly bombarded with flashing/moving advertisements during the game.

    I just realised I'm an idiot and Kop is simply the single tier end. I thought they were referring to specifically Liverpool's Kop. As in, hey guys, our stadium will be just like Liverpool's!

    I just listened to Ch10 news report on the new stadium and for what it's worth the presenter said the stadium "includes safe standing" area for fans.

    A smaller version of Borussia Dortmunds kop would do me, our kop needs to have 100% rail seating in the whole stand behind the goal please

    Probably not allowed to say Kop anymore because it's a war reference. Y'know, encouraging anti-social behaviour and stuff.

     

    Either that, or they realised they didn't make it obvious enough that the crowd were standing so they've just gone back to fix the graphics and put a "let's go ******* mental chant" in the background.

      Those days were amazing. A community feel. The fans came, the team gave their all in every single game. Win or lose the fans would applaud them for their efforts and the club would reward the fans with heaps of praise.  Nowadays the club seems more like a franchise, with no care about the team or the fans, just sales and money. It’s stale.    Those days might never return but if you are going to try you need to start by bringing in a new chairman who understands the community and a good motivational coach. Skill isn’t a huge requirement in this league, it helps but the quality is so poor that you if you are a semi decent player and try push your body to the limits for 90 minutes you will win more than you lose.   It looks like we’ve finally hit rock bottom(although I thought that 3 years ago). Sub 6000 attendances, poor football and less than 1 point a game. Let’s go back to basics, get the community involved again, have the players visit schools, workplaces, hand out free tickets, partner with the western Sydney NPL clubs instead of competing against them. Bring the jersey prices back down to a reasonable price. Actually start the marquee we brought in. That’s just the start. There’s so much more that should and can be done.

      We had a plan for how to score, which we actually executed well. I didn't see that in the first derby. We also played with much more intensity. For long stretches of the first half we were winning our 1:1 battles, which again didn't happen in the first derby.  We lost this due to defensive lapses because we don't have enough depth in defence.

      our defence is getting worse which is saying alot -  if we could shore up our defence - we are a top 6 team - we have the quality in attack and can transition decently id like to see Christiansen given a chance to work with this squad
