  • A-League 2023/23 Fixtures Released

    mack

The draw for the A-League 2022/23 Season was released today.

Western Sydney Wanderers will begin the season with a 3pm Sunday clash against the Perth Glory on the 9th of October at Parramatta Stadium. The first away game is a week later against Melbourne Victory on Saturday night.

A trio of home games follow against Brisbane Roar, Newcastle Jets and Central Coast Mariners, and then the big Sydney Derby at the new Moore Park stadium on Saturday the 12th of November.

The derby is the final game before a month long World Cup break that goes until the Wanderers play Wellington Phoenix in New Zealand on Saturday the 10th of December.

The first match of the new year takes place on New Year's Day the 1st of January 2023 in Parramatta against Macarthur FC. The only home Sydney Derby of the season is on Saturday the 11th of February, the final derby of the year is on Saturday the 18th of March and precedes a short international window break.

Melbourne City will be the final game of the season, an away trip to Melbourne on Friday the 28th of April.

The Wanderers pre-season fixtures include a Wednesday 23rd November match against Everton FC from the English Premier League.

The Wanderers have had a busy off-season, with 16 players added to the squad to replace the raft of releases following yet another dismal season. The big name signing is undoubtedly Milos Ninkovic, the former Sydney FC legend transferring to the Red & Black following an acrimonious split. There was off-field changes aplenty, with a number of major coaching changes and in the club office, John Tsatsimas stepping down from his CEO role and being replaced by the internal promotion of Scott Hudson.

Rudan is expected to return the Wanderers back into the top 6 at a minimum, and with the abysmal failure to qualify for the FFA Cup, to make a deep finals run to bring success to the club for the first time in almost a decade.

    Thoughts:

    • We really, really need to hit the ground running given the home games upfront
    • I find it odd that we play Adelaide for the first time in Round 17
    • The opponents we have to play three times are Perth (2 x away, 1 x home), Sydney (2 x away, 1 x home), Bulls (2 x home, 1 x away), and Mariners (2 x home, 1 x away)
    • Scheduling Newcastle away then Mariners away the next week is annoying

    Home matches:

    • 3 x Fridays
    • 6 x Saturdays
    • 4 x Sundays

    Away matches:

    • 4 x Fridays
    • 6 x Saturdays
    • 3 x Sundays

How the **** do you make 3pm games in the middle of summer at least do them early or late season

15th Jan and 5th Feb just madness for 3pm KO; this must been paramount demanding and administration rolling over in submission.

Seems we have a nice softish start and a hard run in.

The clubs don't want any games on Sunday starting later than 5pm. Foxtel were the ones who pushed for the 7pm kick-offs to help their ratings but the clubs hated it.

We play 19 of our games in NSW, and another 3 at AAMI Park. There's no flight to Wellington either (thank god, no more idiotic Perth away, Wellington away double headers). If SFC end up playing their 2nd game vs WU in Geelong or somewhere dumb like Tasmania or Bendigo then I'd say we have the easiest travel schedule in the league.

    Tempting

I stopped very early season interstate away trips when the club rolled out the ‘you wont see the best of us until after Xmas’ mantra. I thought well if the club can’t be arsed with the first quarter of the season why should I.

But then the shite till after Xmas thing hasn’t held true for a while anyway I suppose, because we have been shite from start to finish.

Still think I will give it a little while and see how we go before jumping back on away trips though.

I'm a little bit more optimistic. Hopefully both teams have wins in round one and it IS at AAMI on a Saturday night. Plus I haven't been down to a Victory v Wanderers game since the infamous season 2 clash.

Some of the early kickoffs in Dec/Jan/Feb will be hot, and I won't enjoy the sun in my face on the Eastern Stand, but it'll be a lot easier for our group to bring kids to games.

Nearly all our home games last season were 7:45 kickoffs or similar. It finishes too late to bring young kids. This season we have 6 of the 13 home games kicking off at either 3pm or 5pm, and I can bring my son to pretty much all of them.

We haven’t had a hot summer (in NSW anyway) for 2 years now and the long term forecast suggests this one could be similar. I’m guessing the 3pm ko is there to capitalise on good weather and if it is too hot they’ll just delay it til 5.

I know it's hot as blazes at that time but I don't care, it's my favourite time for a game. I get all the reasons why its bad in our climate but there's something about it.

3pm was the kick off time for every game when I started out. Then SkyTV came in and ****ed everything around.

There was something about the 3pm kick off ritual though

    Leave home 12ish

    Get to pub 12:30

Leave pub 2:15 and walk to ground

After game pick up a takeaway....

This was pretty much my season every season from age 5 to 18. The only diff being that from age 5 to 11ish I would be left on the steps of the pub with a bag of chips and a lemonade as no kids allowed inside in those days..

3pm kick off's will bring back the nostalgia.

I'll tell you what it is, is blue sky and green grass and then time for a proper feed and beers post game to deconstruct it. And something about it feels less plastic. Like, i mind tge bullshit music and all that **** less in the arvo for some reason.

He gave Berisha a short arm jab in the melee at the end of the match.
