  • Aaron Mooy scores on Socceroo Debut

    mack

Aaron Mooy was selected in the starting line up for the Socceroos match vs Guam.

He then proceeded to score his first ever international goal, his second in a senior competitive match with a well taken free kick.

In the 54th minute he unleashed a perfect through-ball that enabled Eli Babalj to make the score 4-0 in favour of Australia.

The goal and assist is justification for those confused and angry at Mooy being left on the bench for the opening two matches against Hong Kong and North Korea, and will be further fuel to his elevation to the full national team setup.

Mooy hit the post on another free kick, then missed two golden chances. The first had a Guam defender just knock the ball from his feet as he was about to strike, the second was a chip cleared off the line when Mooy perhaps should have blasted it home.

Despite the missed chances Australia won the match 9-0 and Mooy was arguably the man of the match. This puts them in a good position to qualify, the group will end in a goal difference shootout, as long as Australia who play Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) can better the result of North Korea who play Hong Kong.

about ***** time holger changes it up. its 3 nil at half time. we need at least 6 more.

He changes it up and look what happens, even though its against a lesser opponent the young boys are playing some good football. Mooy free kick was awesome and came close with another one. Hopefully we can score a few more in the second half.

Was a cracking strike, know he needs to it for wanderers!!

He's come close a couple of times this year with free kicks.

Mooy is pure class, he's a free kick specialist from what i'v seen of him.

Mooy didn't shoot wide, the defender poked it away from behind him through Mooy's legs.

Made me happy to see the interplay between Rogic and Mooy. Both have been fantastic in this game.

The first miss was Guam defender poking out from his feet.

The second one.. well... he was probably too casual.

He might have have his shot blocked if he went for power. Their keeper was their best on the pitch for Guam.

Their keeper is the only one whos name I now know. Says a lot.

Mooy was still all class and very comfortable. Would be interesting to see how he dealt with a team who actually pressed him in possession though.

    • its honestly been many years since i have actively followed the wanderers,  i came back at a very....interesting time, no defense but can actually look good in attack when we feel like it(at least the 2nd half) while its mostly doom and gloom since we have 1 entire point in 3 matches, i am actually interested to see how this plays out, but defense was so disappointing, never had any confidence we wouldnt concede maybe Adelaide made our attack look decent though
    • This was like a get together, a kick about with your mates. Absolutely no structure or game plan at all. Their touches and passes were complete donkey and on top of that, the defence is a complete **** house, we go from having the likes of NTS, Beauchamp, Spiranovic, Alberto, Marcelo and Mrcela to useless defenders in Jeong and Bonnetig
    • Juan Mata's current Google search: He can be in Nissau in 41 hrs in business class,.for a mere 21 grand. Worth it imo.
