  • Wanderers Winless Streak Extends To Six

    mack

Another dominating performance by the Wanderers failed to produce a first win at the Sydney Olympic Showground with a 1-1 draw against Brisbane Roar.

As is the penchant for the Wanderers this season, they began the game strongly but were let down by their defence. Jamie Maclaren, a potential transfer target for the home side for next season, slowly drifted to the byline, and was met by a diving Jerrad Tyson. The collision was hardly at full speed, Maclaren collapsed in a heap and was rewarded with a penalty. Having won the penalty he stepped up to take it, and blasted it straight down the middle to open the scoring.

The second half saw a red & black tide threaten to swamp the Roar, as the visitors fell back time & time again. With the attack crying out for a killer final ball to pierce the Roar defence, it came 10 minutes after the break. Nico Martinez poked the ball behind the Roar defence for Jack Clisby who hit a first time cross into the middle that give Jumpei Kusukami a simple tap-in.

The goalkeepers took the spotlight with a string of saves. Michael Theo made a spectacular one handed stop from a shot by Martinez that looked destined to curl into the far corner. Not to be outdone by his opposite number, Tyson came up with a two handed diving save at full horizontal stretch when a Roar free kick was hammered into the wall and deflected off the back of Mitch Nichols.

Tommy Oar had a chance in the 91st minute to steal 3 points, a cutback found the flying winger and his sidefoot first time strike failed to trouble Tyson. A last minute set piece for the Wanderers came away with nothing and consigned the Wanderers to a 6th game in a row without a win.

Western Sydney travel to Gosford next week to face the Central Coast Mariners on Saturday December 3rd.

11k on a Friday night, pathetic. Sorry WSW brothers and sisters but it is.

    Need Keane badly.

Victory, please don't be those idiots I have seen on twitter. Oh look, 11,000 people = 1/2 fan base are bandwagoners, the muppets that are the loudest are led by Easts flogs, what a surprise.

Most of the people commenting have read the bossi article and have taken it as gospel. If the hack bothered to be a journalist & actually looked beneath the surface he'd see there is a lot more wrong than just a crap stadium.

There are plenty of issues with SOP that are completely ruining the match day experience, yes the die hards like many on here will turn up no matter what but even then there are those on here that would rather travel to any other game but those at SOP.

If die hards like us are asking these questions what are those, what are the casual fans thinking? They go to get the kids out of the house, but would they bother when transport to/from SOP is horrible, police presence is over the top, security are over bearing, pre match drinks venue is horrible, nothing to do post game except leave & at the bottom of that list the ground is poor venue.

If spotless was just a poor venue to watch football none of us would have an issue (new ground 3 years) but there is so much going on than that.

Firstly - Bossi missed the big point in his article, there was no substance in his article.

Secondly - For me SOP is not only a WSW issue but also a Bulldogs issue, tonight I am reminded why hardly I do not go to Bulldogs games on Friday nights/Thursday nights anymore, game is finished at 10pm tonight, long wait at Olympic park because of 'congestion' at Olympic Park station, then as soon as I get to Lidcombe station, its a long ass 20min wait for your Campbelltown train. So realisically, if you leave out that way or in Penrith, you wont get home til like 11.30am or even til midnight. I live an hour past campbelltown and took me 2.5hrs post game to get home. Late KO is not helping anyone at the moment.

Thirdly - Club says Security will allow RBB members into that active area but still we are seeing fans arguing with Security telling them this is not their section. Police presence over the active bay, looking for someone to stuff up. Nothing is being resolved here for us in the RBB.

If we were winning games we would be getting 18K. SOP is rubbish and everything said about it in here is true but if we were winning then people would make the effort to get there. We aren't so they don't. You only have to glance at facebook for 5 minutes to recognise that a % of our fanbase are precious, entitled wankers who support big Euro clubs and think that finishing 3rd is a horrific crisis. Honestly I don't care about them - we are better off without them anyway.

    On the game....

The good - Nico, aspro and both fullbacks. The superb effort and atmosphere in the rbb.

The bad - borda, opposition keepers morphing into neuer whenever they play us, mcclaren's Fabio grosso impersonation and the cops trying to justify their existence by staunching up and down the aisles trying to create a problem where none existed.

It is starting to feel like its going to be one of those seasons where stuff just doesn't go your way.

    Yeah been saying this too.

That Santa opportunity just sums everything up. Too high for boot, too low for head, chest was maybe the best opportunity but probably even a bit too far out in front for that.

I'm still hopeful we can turn it around, but we're getting to the point where we need all the close ones to go our way.

Surely there is someone better than Dimas at dead balls? Those floating corners and free kicks are gifts for the opposition defence. Why isn't Nico taking them? He can curl a good one and he's only about 3 foot tall so not much point having him in the mix.

Re-watched the game last night on You Tube.  Second half was so much better than first.  It's that last ball we're just not really getting right or when we do no rub of the green at all.  Oh and that we're not talking about the referee today?  As it should be.  Take note Gillett and Beath you useless ****s.

Long time until 12th Feb.  Probably make the trip down for the community fixture.  Might even head up the coast next week with family.  But ANZ can get to ****.  Not going again.

Anyone else notice that Dimas has a habit of switching off in the middle and his passing gets lazy? More than one promising Roar attack sprung out of an intercepted rubbish pass from Dimas near the centre circle.

I thought the referee favoured them much more with decisions. There was a few free kicks in the second half we should have clearly received. The penalty call was soft. Bulut's yellow card was also ridiculous.

No chance. Even if we were playing well I would be surprised if we cracked 20k.

The words Positive & ANZ cancel each other out. You're closer to the action at home with a cuppa tea and Tim Tams or whatever your poison. I only look forward to the travelling away games and the SFS Derby in January which will bury the sceptics in smurf blue sea wash. Take note of last nights crowd and for all the seasonal choreographed hysteria against Active support. Take that away and you would have a Souless club irrespective of number of bums on seats. Dear cry me a Riva. Expectations are pre meditated resentments. Spare those around you who fail your height test. Be okay with imperfect son cause it's too early for the finished product to announce itself.

What a ripper atmosphere tonight. Vintage Boris getting everyone involved. I had a great night, I spent the first 10 mins of the game chanting with mouthfuls of panang curry and beer lol

I couldn't care less if people aren't showing up, their loss.

I thought we played solidly yet again and deserved to win, all the lads putting in a good shift. Again, we look best when we play with width. We'll be right, the wins will come if we keep this up. We just need the opposition keeper to stop having a blinder every week, it's really inconvenient.

Chin up Riva you miserable old bastard :P

To quote the famous country and eastern singer Khamal- " Why are people so unkind ?"

Not a miserable post at all , just a statement of facts. Point out one factual error in my post. Also , for what it's worth I tipped a draw but doesn't mean it was a good result. Another two home points pissed up against the wall.

On this theory that opposition keepers turn into Buffon against us. No we make them look good ( even Izzo which is impossible)

by the shyte quality of the strikes , always within reach of the keeper and just the right height. Do some shooting practice for low hard shots away from the keepers like good goalpoaching smart strikers do.

I think the most important thing is that the structure looks a lot better now. Especially in defence. For me it has a lot to do with our goal keeper, and his positioning and talking. Redmayne simply confused everyone. Borda is also an issue, but we somehow have to manage with him. Would be awesome if Spranovic was here. Would make a huge difference.

Also we need a new striker. Santa will always be a sub. I think when we bought Lustica on as a sub he offered nothing. Therefore an attacking mid who can come on and change a game. Would also put pressure on the others to perform. Three new players imo would make a massive difference. We would start climbing up the ladder.

Down to 11,000 last night but i think the atmosphere inside is starting to pick up as the stands are now finding a voice there. All this despite the rubbish location and distance from the actual pitch. I cant see the crowd dropping much below that number as those of us left have now put up with the poor transport options for a few weeks.

I just wish they would settle on a train pattern instead of changing it every week, if i know when and what services are leaving SOP post match i can plan for it, but for every game there this year we have had a different set of services, sometimes a penrith service, sometimes not and last night a terrible all stops to blacktown service, that would have been a punish.

I think I was at a different game than most of you. Despite the SOP issues that are well articulated and a big negative I thought the game last night was a very good game of football. The group I was with also agreed the best performance this year. We were clearly the better team and we're playing a very good style - much evolved from last year. It is a work in progress and I know that doesn't sit well with those who need a win and now. I think we deserved all the points but a few factors here and there meant we settle for 1 point. We are developing into a very good football side and I like the way we are going. The improvement over the last few weeks is enormous. Yes it is easy to pick the weak points but every player is improving and the teamwork is coming together. The hardest part of any game is getting the ball into the net and that is the part that still has to come together fully. The last pass, an extra touch, using a leg not a head, 5 cm to low... but for these fine lines we would have been 5-1.

we dominated a tam that drew ell with ESFC, who, like it or not are the current benchmark, even though they aren't playing exceptional football. It is coming together and I get what Popa is saying - Round 27 is the testing point, not round 8. Adelaide were last at this point last season.

I enjoyed watching a team who is developing into a very good and entertaining football team. I enjoyed the passionate support of the RBB who I thought sounded extremely good last night - well balanced, clear and passionate. I thought we,as a crowd, are making the most of our temporary home and despite all the negatives of SOP there was still a good feel in the crowd where I was.

Nico is rapidly developing into the best player in the A League but also the most fouled - many not called. I thought the referee did better than some previous weeks but the penalty was soft and thought that Jumpei deserved something out of the trip in the area near the end. Nico was constantly tripped, pulled and fouled but few were called. he is just to quick for A League defenders and they take his feet out constantly.

My reading of the penalty was that Tyson was still on a high after his great save of two minutes earlier. I think he hesitated, momentarily, but then decided (on a high) to take a gamble - but that is something keepers should very rarely do when there is one of your own defenders and further on an opponent, between you and the ball. I think that had he not made that earlier save, he would have stayed on his line, which would have been the wise thing to do. Apart from the penalty, Tyson was good.

For all Dimas' technical ability and orchestration, I still think that he, the defence and midfield generally play the ball backwards far too often. We play our best football when we are moving forward and slicing through defences. Back-pedalling only runs the risk of losing possession in your own half - and then you are in trouble. Of course this means that every player should have at least one teammate moving towards a support position where ideally the ball can be played into space just in front of them - but that is the way modern and mobile football is supposed to work.

Nico was again excellent, but you can see with the range of skills that he has displayed that we have yet to see the best of one of the finest signings this club has ever made. His fitness and no doubt confidence were an issue after his experiences in Greece, but this is one player a Robbie Keane would just love to have wearing the same colours. Their combination (if it can be arranged) would be one worth any A-League admission fee.

The problem is that the number and pattern of trains depends on the number of events (and people) expected in the precinct. Last night was us and I believe some school spectacular. Other times it has been alongside concerts and other sports.

The all stops to Blacktown was a bit brutal, but better that than trying to change platforms at Lidcombe in the crush with a couple of tired and grumpy af kids. Pick your battles etc.

Nico is far from the best player in the league.

Anyone who thinks he's even close to the top 5 in the league has Red & Black tinted glasses on.

For starters to be one of the best players in the league you need to actually do something with the ball.

Nico has 1 goal. Fornaoli has 6. Ninkovic has 4. Rojas has 4.

Nico has 2 assists. Fornaroli has 0. Ninkovic has 3. Rojas has 4.

I'd rate in no particular order, Keogh, Fornaroli, Brosque, Rojas, Ninkovic, all clearly and obviously ahead of him and that isn't including any defenders or keepers. Even Andrew Nabbout has more combined Assists + Goals than Nico has.

Perhaps it's just me, but did popa pull Nico to the side after the team gee up and say "Ignore what I just said to the team, it's all up to you". We are immensely fortunate to have him. Even at this stage of the comp he's unarguably one of the best in the league but without someone to distribute to for the final killer punch he'll grow frustrated.
