  • Wanderers Winless Streak Extends To Six

    mack

Another dominating performance by the Wanderers failed to produce a first win at the Sydney Olympic Showground with a 1-1 draw against Brisbane Roar.

As is the penchant for the Wanderers this season, they began the game strongly but were let down by their defence. Jamie Maclaren, a potential transfer target for the home side for next season, slowly drifted to the byline, and was met by a diving Jerrad Tyson. The collision was hardly at full speed, Maclaren collapsed in a heap and was rewarded with a penalty. Having won the penalty he stepped up to take it, and blasted it straight down the middle to open the scoring.

The second half saw a red & black tide threaten to swamp the Roar, as the visitors fell back time & time again. With the attack crying out for a killer final ball to pierce the Roar defence, it came 10 minutes after the break. Nico Martinez poked the ball behind the Roar defence for Jack Clisby who hit a first time cross into the middle that give Jumpei Kusukami a simple tap-in.

The goalkeepers took the spotlight with a string of saves. Michael Theo made a spectacular one handed stop from a shot by Martinez that looked destined to curl into the far corner. Not to be outdone by his opposite number, Tyson came up with a two handed diving save at full horizontal stretch when a Roar free kick was hammered into the wall and deflected off the back of Mitch Nichols.

Tommy Oar had a chance in the 91st minute to steal 3 points, a cutback found the flying winger and his sidefoot first time strike failed to trouble Tyson. A last minute set piece for the Wanderers came away with nothing and consigned the Wanderers to a 6th game in a row without a win.

Western Sydney travel to Gosford next week to face the Central Coast Mariners on Saturday December 3rd.

8 points out of a possible 24 and some people say we are playing well - just as well we are not

playing badly. Plus 11 points behind our biggest rivals and they have a game in hand.

Sure we had chances but blew them and this problem is so well entrenched it is chronic and the coaching must take the blame.

We don't know how to create attacking  space ,  cross properly  or play defence splitting passes. Chronic also are pathetic

set pieces. Even if we had Keane he would have no space or service.

They could have won it in the end with Oar. Luckily he missed.

Winning is the major key to good crowds , keep this winless run up and crowds will fall below 10,000.

Mate you'd complain if you found $100 note down the back of the couch that there wasn't another $10 there

Glad to know you are happy with the results. Idiot.

Don't be a tool, you whine and moan about everything, I was pointing it out, no need to start the name calling.

You have a very strange view on professional sports in general and football specifically, I suspect you assume the real world is how you play FIFA, and every game you expect to win, because that's what you do in FIFA.  You can't it is impossible, by all rules of the universe you cant win every game, nor can you win every season.

You often learn more from not winning, and in that game I saw some great things happening for the team, if you cant see that then you really don't have a clue about the game of football.  You might be better being a Eurosnob and follow Bayern or Barca.

Baccus turned the game. EOS, Over & Out

I agree Baccus came on and did good, not sure about turning the game, but that's besides the point, I think he is a huge asset to the team, he is progressing very nicely and I wouldn't be surprised if he goes a lot further.

Just had a look at his passing stats for this year, his successful pass completion stats are over 86%

Baccus should be starting, he's so much quicker off the mark than Pinatares and looks for the forward ball most of the time. The goal come moments after he came on, coincidence?

Props to the RBB, getting the whole stadium involved was great to see and nearly pushed our boys over the line.

Looking forward to the take over of Gosford this weekend and hopefully secure 3 points so I can potentially see the positive side of Riva..if he has one.

Was only there half the game, but the RBB sounded good actually. Not sure what the 'quiet' is all about?

Still seems like the uneducated, idiots are now sitting behind me. *shakes head* Going to be a LOOOOONG season.

Soulless is a poor football stadium but i think it's the SOP precinct that pees off most rather than the actual stadium. It's access for a modern purpose built piece of infrastructure is woeful. Drive and it's gridlock and the train service is so poorly designed it takes twice as long as it should for anyone travelling anywhere. Look how London designed it's transport options for their Olympics.

Anyway nowt we can do but suck it up. At least we have a proper 'home' game this Saturday !

I've had some great times as part of the RBB's La Banda in these last 4 years and to name a few:

    - Roar semi-final in season 12-13

    - 20th min against the Nix in 13-14

    - ACL Final home leg 2014

Boris is ******* boss. Points to the top tier above us and gets them to join in Dale Cavese. That sign that was in front helped hide my excitement at this.

Then the left and ride sides to get involved all at once, **** me. This was the only highlight I can think of in the past calendar year which brought me joy in active support. ******* BOSS MOMENT.

On a side note I will be a little biased and include this from the boss, Jurgen Klopp on the LFC fans vs Sunderland:

"My job in that moment was to remind the crowd that we needed help, especially in situations like this. They reacted very well, and helped us a lot, so it was a nice afternoon."

Team played with virtually 100% possession and attacked the goal every 10 seconds. The crowd got all whiney and started groaning when it wasn't working out.

As WSW fans for this draw filled rut we're in, we should be pushing the team at every moment, and yes if they're not playing well they still need a lift (derby performance aside, they were just ****ed). A whole lot of noise makes a lot of difference to our lads and to the opposition and the more you make, the better.

    pretty much yeah.

and it was nice to see Jurgen at the game on friday too.

Agree about the stadium wide Dale. It was ******* awesome. First time we have really been able to make a fist of stadium.wide participation at Spotless, hopefully this can be done successfully again. Full credit to Boris and whoever else thought of starting this.

    Stadium-wide dale cavese = life!

    Epic fun!

Boris and whoever else orchestrated it, did so perfectly

Starting with the top tier, getting the noise bouncing from the roof to get the rest of the stadium's attention!

And then only doing a couple of repetitions with each area - as to not overdo it!

Not to mention doing this a week before Gosford Away - will hopefully get the fans who travel, non-active and active, that little bit more pumped!

If we were winning games we would be getting 18K. SOP is rubbish and everything said about it in here is true but if we were winning then people would make the effort to get there. We aren't so they don't. You only have to glance at facebook for 5 minutes to recognise that a % of our fanbase are precious, entitled wankers who support big Euro clubs and think that finishing 3rd is a horrific crisis. Honestly I don't care about them - we are better off without them anyway.

    On the game....

The good - Nico, aspro and both fullbacks. The superb effort and atmosphere in the rbb.

The bad - borda, opposition keepers morphing into neuer whenever they play us, mcclaren's Fabio grosso impersonation and the cops trying to justify their existence by staunching up and down the aisles trying to create a problem where none existed.

It is starting to feel like its going to be one of those seasons where stuff just doesn't go your way.

I am so glad someone else has picked up on how bad Borda still is. Our defence is looking much better but it definitely isn't because of Borda. I cringe everytime the ball goes near him, as i'm expecting a mistake everytime. Aspro is our best CB by a wide margin. He will have a couple of mistakes in him because of his age but i'm loving watching him grow into a quality player. Big big potential for the lad.

Our defense is looking much better because of how deep Bruno and Dimas are sitting. They barely venture into the opposition half these days. popa has recognised how slow our CB's are and has changed his gameplan to compensate for this. Bruno is looking like another LaRocca. A beast in the tackle and covers our CB's well but can't be expected to make a pass.

Andreu would've been perfect next to Bruno. While i like Dimas, I think his passing range is a bit limited and when combined with Bruno, our midfield doesn't have an ounce of creativity.

Also wanted to add on Nico. The guy is absolutely brilliant and for me is on par with our best players in our short history (Ono, Spira etc).

We are basically a one man team in attack at the moment. I can hardly think of a chance we create without some kind of involvement from him.

Massive massive failure if we can not keep him here for many more years to come.

Really good point re Dimas / Bruno. A ball playing mid next to either of those guys and we're on our way.

so what do think we need to fill the NTS spot

    GK or CB or MF?

    Could Nichols fill that role?

Then bring Nico in from the wing and put someone else out there.

That's the tough one isn't it. Some noticeable gaps but having seen us play a few games now, I still think that without a top class striker we'll struggle to beat the top 3 or 4 sides. I don't think GK is our biggest issue, and as long as Borda / Aspro can get it together then CB will just about do. Maybe Mitch in next to Dimas / Bruno as suggested. At least the last 2 games have shown some reasons for optimism (unless you're Riva).

    mitch came off hobbling badly.

Dare i say it, Nico may have to play at No 10 with Sotirio starting on the right or left. Bruno should get one more start with Baccus or Lustica as the sub.

On the right barring injury, anyone on the right will be up against ex Victory LB Scott Galloway so reckon Jumpei should be positioned there.

I'm hoping it was just cramp for Nichols. Popa had Hamil ready to come on last in the game but Nichols signalled to the bench and Popa changed to Lustica. Nichols didn't go straight down the tunnel and after the game he didn't have any ice strapped to him so the medical team mustn't have been too worried.
