  • Wanderers Season Opener Postponed

    mack

The double header Western Sydney Wanderers vs Macarthur A-League and W-League Wanderers vs Sydney FC matches have been postponed until Wednesday December 30th.

As a result of the Northern Beaches Covid outbreak cluster the NSW Government has required the Wanderers to move their A-League and W-League fixtures that were set for the 27th of December.

Additionally, the game, should it take place on the newly scheduled date of Wednesday December 30th, will be reduced to 50% of stadium capacity.

Please stay in touch with the news at WestSydneyFootball.com as well as the club and league social media communications to keep updated on further developments.

Had to happen I guess. Hopefully numbers continue dropping so no further games are affected.

If the match was further postponed, does Fox Sports cut some funds from the ALeague?

My understanding of these broadcast contracts is that as long as the matches are delivered by a certain end date they can be moved and shuffled as needed.

Taking a punt likely won't happen 30th either.

    Still out.

Assuming it goes ahead on 30th is it a reduced crowd game ie 50% capacity?

Not going to be an issue..would expect crowd of around 10k anyway...if goes ahead..

One would expect Bulls to have decent crowd show up.... 1st A League game and that.

They moved it from a Sunday evening the day before a public holiday to midweek where some people work. Delayed the KO too. Should have just moved it to the new years day timeslot that is currently free.

Bit far out for a real forecast.

FWIW the app I use for weather says a few morning showers, mostly cloudy at night but could be 17 to 18C for Wednesday

OK...so the football Gods DID hear the game was called off!

    What time is kick off?

I thought I read somewhere the other other day that the original time of 6.30 on the Sunday had been put back to a later time on the Wednesday.

    Thank you.

At least those that haven't seen this will turn up early.

Anyway, myself and WB Jnr are excited about trying out new foodie options pre match in Parramatta, even though it's a shite fight atm with the light rail construction.

Since a lot of people are on leave I’m hoping a decent number will come for the W-League game beforehand.

I'm planning to for that very reason.

Good call. It's a derby. It would be great if we could supply some derby atmosphere for the W's.
