  • Redmayne Hands Jets Point

    mack

Andrew Redmayne threw away a win for the Wanderers as he gave away a foul then compounded his error by allowing the tame free kick under his arms to give Newcastle a dramatic equaliser deep into stoppage time.

The Wanderers looked liked they were cruising as far into the game as the 80 minute, only to succumb to a late fightback with the game ending 2 all. The home side, playing their first ever match at the Homebush Showground, took an early lead as Artiz Borda scored the opener in the 23rd minute. After returning from suspension, the central defender rose against Nick Cowburn on the edge of the 6 yard box. Newcastle committed the cardinal sin of not having a man on both posts, and Borda's glancing header skidded off the base of the post and over the line for 1-0.

A silly handball from Ben Kantarovski gave club captain Dimas Delgado the opportunity from the penalty spot, and he sent Jack Duncan the wrong way to double the Wanderers lead going into the break.

Nigel Boogaard, better known for getting sent off instead scored a milestone, as he scored the 20,000th goal in the history of Australian league football. He rose at the back stick, with Redmayne coming out but getting nowhere near the ball, along with the rest of his defence, leaving a gaping open goal that Boogaard couldn't miss from a few yards out.

Redmayne cost his side the win in the 88th minute. Giving away the foul 25 yards out from goal after the keeper charged out of goal only to collect substitute Morten Nordstrand as he tried to round the keeper. Andrew Hoole fired at goal, his chest height shot going around the poorly positioned wall, Redmayne was slow to react, and when he did react he reacted poorly, with awful technique that allowed what should have been a routine block to creep under his hands to see the game finish 2-2.

This match can be added to the ever growing list of games that should have ended with a clean sheet but due to defensive frailty ended without one, and this time it also ended with 2 less points for the Wanderers than it should have. Jerrad Tyson must be given a chance to cement a full time starting position, as Redmayne was the difference for the Jets in this game, adding poor handling technique to his already dubious habit of poor judgement when deciding to charge out of his goal. Steven Lustica was anonymous, and despite a stellar pre-season has done little to show why he would be ahead of Nico Fernandez, Shannon Cole or even one of our younger players.

Western Sydney play next when they take on the Central Coast Mariners on Saturday the 29th of October.

This team is better than the team that won the ACL.

Garbage. What would the score have been if Redmayne had been in goal in the final game against Al-Hilal

I would say about 3-0 at the very least. And that's not counting about 4 clearcut penalties the ref

didn't give against us. I'll take the win but Covic and ref won it for us. So according to your logic this current team could be the best in Asia. Hilarious , we have

    another comedian.

That's pretty much word for word what people like you (not you specifically, you weren't here then) said before we started our first ACL campaign.

then you had the people that were the total opposite, including one who even made the first ACL away thread moments after we won our first a-league game

I don't understand what people expect from a backup keeper. Blaming Popa because our backup keeper is not much chop is weird. How many teams around the world have a decent backup?

Should we have a better no.1 than Redmayne? Maybe. But again, we don't have access to the salary cap data.

At the moment our No1 keeper is playing like the backup.

Can't remember if I've posted this before: why are we still talking about Reddy?

Could have been sent off in the derby.

Should have been sent off against ADE.

Was partially responsible for us losing the game against the VIC in Melbourne.

How many games did he play for us? Seven?

Im going to conclude with this argument that he was unfit, overweight and slow with his feet but the 2 things he has over Redmayne is his command of the box and the ability and confidence to take high balls.

As for our squad... Someone mentioned that we are way under the cap by some $500k?

It's not possible to be that far under the cap. You must spend 87.5% of $2.6M, which equals $2.275M. So the most you can be under is $325k.

Admin please close this thread and open one for the next game against the mariners

Why would you want the thread closed, because the truth hurts. Redmayne is a liability.
No it's just that it's not going to change anything... would you rather Tyson ?, what do we do when he stuffs up put Redmayne back in? Let's face it...both our GKs are not great.

That game is over there's a new one in 2 days time lets focus on that.

I figured I had to give you a like, not for your whole post but this line. We have a better overall team but have to agree that Covic in goals with NTS as captain was just unbelievable. You could say that we have better players all over the park now compared to that S2 side but having a strong CB pair & goal keeper at his peak are so important if you want to go deep.

I felt like you at least deserved 1 like because I can't agree with anything you've said on here, ever. Hell even bloodly Jayzko got a like (on the rare occasion I could decipher him) before you but glad I was able to finally like you for something :good:

I am not saying Tyson is better or worse than Redmayne. How much worse can Tyson be. Just saying, when is Redmayne going to be accountable for a very poor showing. We all know Tyson is at least competent, otherwise whats the point of signing him. I am focusing on the game in 2 days, I want the team win it, not make 4 goalkeeping errors in the match which costs us points again. What would do if Redmayne costs us more points this weekend. That's potentially more points dropped against what should be the easiest opposition in the A-league.

Some teams in the a league have been together for years, and others they've tryed to do what we've done not working for them so much looking at Adelaide Brisbane ccm

I really think it's gonna be

Perth Melbourne city and the smurfs this year

    Unfortunately

All 3 are clearly in breach of salary cap

What about if your captain leaves one game into the season?? Do we need to fill a spot in January if we fall below the $2.275 million? And what if we fill it with a marquee?? So many questions...

No excuses This will be a real marker.

Saturday night. Season hasn't turned sour. Not too hot or too cold.

What we get Saturday is what we will be getting. Smurfs got 15k (I think) for same game on the same day. We need to match that at least. 18k members. Let's see how many show up?

I suggest we ask Glory or City, I'm sure they know the salary cap inside and out.

Surely the club would just give Redmayne a 300% pay rise and a new 4 year deal?

Sorry I forgot it has been mentioned before but Popa didn't keep Reddy because of his salary demand and went with the much cheaper option of signing Redmayne.

A close goalkeeper friend of mine who was plying his trade in Serbia signed for Newcastle Jets last week, beat Covic to the job, did the medical and everything ok with only an issue with his clearance with the Serbian FA resulting in him being clubless at the moment. Still training with the Jets though...there are options it there but scarce.
