It was a new year, but the same old result for the Western Sydney Wanderers, as they earned a 1-1 draw with Perth Glory at the Sydney Olympic Stadium tonight.

The only major surprise in the home teams lineup was the absence through injury of fullback Scott Neville, and he was replaced by utility defender Brendan Hamill. The Wanderers had a good opening 10 minutes, with Dimas Delgado having a wide lash at goal after neat wing play from Nico Martinez. Perth however took the lead after 14 minutes. Josh Risdon, Andy Keogh & Chris Harold combined to send Adam Taggart through on goal. The assistant missed an obvious offside from meters away, but Taggart cared little as he strode in on goal, and took advantage of poor goalkeeping from Jerrad Tyson to beat the keeper at his near post.

Tony Popovic had named a substitute bench including Kearyn Baccus & Jaushua Sotirio, and the pair combined to bring the home team back level in the 65th minute. Baccus picked up the ball near his own penalty area, continued toward halfway unchallenged, before lobbing the ball over a static Perth defence who had been caught square with Josh Risdon keeping Sotirio onside. The speedy winger had been deployed as a forward with the suspension of Brendan Santalab, and Sotirio took inspiration from the Wanderers leading scorer, as he slotted a neat finish past ex-Wanderer Liam Reddy.

Neither side were able to score a goal to provide a precious win, with Western Sydney looking increasingly likely to find themselves breaking the record of 11 draws in an A-League season.

Reports indicated that the Wanderers have Eli Babalj, the twice capped Australian international forward on trial from AZ Alkmaar of Holland and Tony Popovic may add him to a squad which is already set to include Terry Antonis & Vedran Janjetovic.

Most of us were not in Sydney, the ones that went sat throughout stadium with family and friends

Rudan said it perfectly during pre-match, doesnt matter what the situation is, Popa will never change the system cause he has faith in the system, and Bozza said at half time we are too predictable.

Possession based football are trying to out pass the team, whats the point of that? we barely do anything with it, we aren't ***** Barcelona here. We only played direct once last night and that led to Sotirios goal and I'd like us to go a bit more direct.

Also watching Nico play in the middle, I'd like to see more of that from him.

Surely that goal from Perth was not Tyson's fault. It was a one on one ffs. Just because it was near post doesn't mean it should be an automatic save. A bit harsh Mack.

No, 2nd time in a row Tyson did the same thing leaving his nearside exposed and diving the wrong way, thats poor GKing. He rushed up because Taggart  beat our defence. He should never be doing that. Other than that, he did ok last night, wasnt spectacular by any means.

Only Redmayne has kept a clean sheet this season after coming on for Tyson against the Mariners :ninja:

Definitely too predictable, the amount of times a yellow jersey was standing next to the receiving player shows opposition knows whats coming.

hard to watch at times last night.

RBB definitely made better use of the acoustics , amen to that

Struggling against a poor glory at home. Yikes.

We are going to get embarrassed in the next two weeks.

Massive recruitment fail. It's going to get worse before it gets better, January 14 will be rock bottom and will send huge rifts through our fan base. popa out / popa in civil war will rage.

Huge test of loyalty coming up, can't have people flocking to the exits of Allianz as well as ANZ.

    Forever loyal. Bring it on.

Yes my dad noticed this as well on TV, the amount of yellow jerseys standing their ground knowing what were about to do.

Also, Kusukami, there were times I thought he should have scored twice, one when he beat Lowry, he should have banged the ball in after beating him instead he passed it back to Nico who blasted it over.

Another time when he had space, he tried to dribble the ball into the net only for the Perth defender to clear the ball out. Honestly, why the **** do we keep trying to walk the ball into the net? There were cries of shoot ***** around the ground last night

Lastly, that was one of the craziest nights in the RBB ever, I'd love to hear some feedback from people who were seated elsewhere on the noise level because in the middle it was damn loud.

It was the loudest the RBB have been at ANZ by far. I'm up on Level 4 on the East side. It was amazing the difference being back further under the roof made. I hope they stay there for the next 2 games. For a 12000 crowd, the atmosphere was actually very good.

Who was the capo last night? I couldn't hear a mega and couldn't see anyone running the show.

Re the game, everything that I was thinking has already been said by others. Another game where it was very disappointing not to take away the 3 points. Shoot farkn. Yes Jumpei, I'm looking at you.

Nine times out of ten you would expect the striker to score in that position. From that position it is very hard to stop whether its near post or far post. Popa said as much in his press conference. This "so called error" will be a non issue and we will see Tyson back in goals next week. He performed well and has outperformed Redmayne whenever he has been in goals.

One of the Northgate boys stepped up I believe, there was no megaphone.

Loved when the camera zoomed in on one of them and when he saw himself on the screen his mate pushed him over.

yeah no mega wasn't a problem I didn't think on the night because smaller numbers and us all packed in made it ok to get the message around.

splitting the section in half for 'our lives we give' was pretty cool.

seemed much better under the roof - good to hear it sounded better around the rest of the stadium too.

Not necessarily a 9 out of 10 goal. Borda was closing in on Taggart and Taggart was at a bit of an angle. If Tyson hadn't actually dived toward far post he would have saved it.

We'll see Tyson back in goals next week probably because we literally have noone else now that we've let Redmayne off lol. I'd assume Vedran is still not fit enough considering he hasn't played for months.

Kalac will want Vedran in as soon as possible. Would not be surprised to see him debut in the derby in two weeks. Wonder if he'll get a game with the youths beforehand?

Part of the swap deal should have been that we play Vedran and they play Redders for the derby....That way we will know who got the better deal.

I love Tyson but it would be fun to see Vedran start in the Derby. If we can't win it, we may as well troll it.

Although it was a frustrating draw again, there have been some positives:

    * The substitutions worked as they combined to score the equaliser.

    * Sotirio finally put one away.

    * Good debut for young Baccus.

    * RBB sounded fantastic under the roof.

    * Didn't hear WST.

    * Nico. Can we clone him - need about two more of him.

    * Didn't lose 3 or 4 zip at ANZ.

if the manager is at all serious about this club he will bite the bullet and go and stop penny pinching and pay the money for a star striker if not he opens the door for other players to leave and not resign, members to get fed up and stay away ,there are plenty of players on the transfer list good enough to excell in this league ,the manager should pick the player he wants then do the deal and don.t come back without him we don,t want to here excuses  you would not let a player get away with excuses wake the fork up and do the 19000 members proud  get over your hurdle and fix the problem stop beating the club up and pay the money and stop hiding behind the cheque book your loosing respect of the people fans families ,your mental block will hampen your career ,the is no such thing as a perfect player [it just takes a phone call then you say yes ] ring robbie keane up say yes and stop the rot then pay mark bridge proper money and get our club out of the hole that you put us in,,

The capo at the Wellington TOD last season was not the same as the one who took charge during this game. The split down the middle reminded me of early Bay 56 when WDYSF had yet to make it to the stands. It's time we bring back Paranoia though. It would be intimidating.
