  • Margush Madness

    mack

The Wanderers faced Brisbane Roar at Parramatta this Saturday night needing a win to stay alive in the A-League finals race, only for a calamitous error from keeper Daniel Margush to hand the Roar a very late equaliser.

Brisbane were almost in front within a minute, after they picked the ball up in midfield an immediate long bomb over the top caught Tomislav Mrcela square, he was outpaced by Cyrus Dehmie. After bringing the ball to the pitch via a knee and a second touch with the foot he shot from the edge of the area on his left, cutting it back across goal, beating the dive of Margush but slicing it wide.

The Wanderers found the back of the net in the 41st minute. James Troisi played a neat pass into the area for the run of Jack Rodwell, his first time cross was fired hard enough and with Bernie Ibini putting pressure on, Roar defender Jack Hingert could do nothing more than to turn the ball behind into the net for an own goal.

In the dying seconds Western Sydney almost had a 2nd, when Keanu Baccus flicked the ball on at the near post, denied by a desperate flap from the Roar keeper that scooped the ball back out without it crossing the line.

On the hour mark the Roar put together a neat passing move inside the Wanderers box, it ended with substitute Luke Ivanovic getting a deflection off Mrcela that sent the ball over the bar for a corner.

Things went from bad to worse for the Roar when their captain Tom Aldred picked up his second yellow card for chopping down Rodwell after a classy turn on the side of the field. Referee Jack Morgan didn't hesitate with the cards and Aldred walked forlornly off the pitch having put his team under massive pressure in a game they were already losing.

Brisbane thought they had equaliser in the 86th minute, with Alex Parsons turning on the ball and firing it past Margush's right hand. He was however offside when the ball deflected off the pack and so play continued with a free kick to the home side.

With the match meandering to a Wanderers win, Daniel Margush decided to enter the Wanderers Terrible Goalkeeping Hall Of Fame with a mistake that topped the disasters of the Vedran Janjetovic era. A long distance back-pass was horribly controlled by Margush, the ball getting tangled in his legs with multiple touches unable to get it out from under him.

He attempted to dribble past Parsons, instead the striker closed him down, stole the ball off him and with an open net, Margush elected to drag him down in a tackle that Peter Sterling would have been proud of. It was the worst possible outcome in that situation. He could have picked it up for an indirect free kick. He could have kicked it over the byline for a corner. He could have let the Roar player score and give his team a few minutes with the one man advantage to win it. It was the most obvious red card Jack Morgan will ever hand out in his career as a referee and it sent Jay O'Shea to the spot, at least once Tomas Mejias came on in place of Bernie Ibini. O'Shea made no mistake, beating Mejias, levelling the game & neither team could add to the score in the frantic final seconds.

The draw didn't help either team's tiny hopes of making the finals, and it would surely take a miracle from here for either side to squeak into 6th place.

Western Sydney's next match is against the Central Coast Mariners, in Parramatta on Wednesday the 13th of April with kickoff at 7:05pm.

Hopefully now Rudan has given up on making the 6, and will start to play some of our youth. It was illogical to entertain the thought that we were still in the running. Our front 3 are incapable of scoring. We have not put together consecutive wins all season. In fact it is worse than that. We have only once been able to win more than 1 out of 3 consecutive games. That was a win to Adelaide away, after a win in the derby and a loss to Macarthur. If there was some slim hope that this was a corner turned, it was quickly squashed with a series of draws and losses. The Victory draw was the end of the season for me.

Carluccio, Lopane and Badolato have featured in match day squads throughout the season but have barely seen any game time. I'd be starting at least one of them each match from now on, perhaps give them 2 games each. I'd also be subbing on at least one of them for some significant game time in the second half, perhaps in turn as well (2 games each).

I agree. Most of the over 23 year old players will be gone after this season anyway. It fits that a very young side won in Adelaide a few weeks ago, even though they were outplayed for a big chunk of the game.

A curiosity question: in the midst of Margush madness, could he have picked the ball up after Parsons touched it? Or was it still considered a backpass?

Technically 2 points because we got 1 point for the draw... :ninja:

After the Roar player touched it, yes, he could've picked it up.

It was a clear very long backpass,..that's how the WSW defenders play most of the time, they don't know how to go forward or kick it out on the sidelines for a thown in to the opposition. Mrcela to blame for that stuff up.

Margush panicked when he tried to dribble Mrcelas back-pass ball near the goal and stuffed it up big time. Had he not panicked he could have just kicked it out for a corner ... Outcome: No tackle .. No red card .. No penalty, just a corner to Brisbane, most likely no goal would have resulted .. WSW wins. Off course it didn't transpire that way.

A very humiliating draw to be very kind.

Not for a corner bit over the sideline. This is two games against the Roar where our keeper has f***** us over at the  death. Vedran and now Magush.

Magush can **** right off after that.

If Margush was that worried about the Roar player who was outside the penalty area when the ball got to him, he should have left it go for a corner.

Mrcela went back to him because of the possibility the Roar player could have blocked it if he kicked it out to the sideline.

Of course he wouldn't have been able to, since after the Roar player touched it, Margush managed to kick it again by accident, sending it inside the 6 yard box, kept it from going out for a goal kick.

Watching the game for 40+ years and only ever seen things like that in the Sunday park leauges :D

Still..Margush may have some interest from NRL clubs about switching codes maybe :unknw: After all it was a bloody good tackle.

    Riddle me this Mack,

Why is it that I have not been able to give a thumbs up/heart after 36 hours at least. Not even a laugh emoji. What rules apply and who applies the rules to this situation. You are the administrator, let's have your rule applications.

I started playing the game 54 years ago. I even played for money, $10 a win ..$5 draw .. $0 for a loss .. and Oh Yes, $5 per goal scored bonus. We had to buy our own kit, insurance, fuel and travel costs.

In those days we played  the game because we liked playing , I played for a win and loved the game. All games were part time. If you wanted to play 1st grade in the A league  of the time you were lucky to get $100 per week. I never forget playing for the Corinthians FC ( British ex servicemans club) based in Edgecliffe for a full 270 minutes against North Sydney Inter (The local North Sydney Italian team) at the Cammeray Golf club oval. Why? I played the 3rd grade game first and then they asked me to play the 2nd grade game half an hour later, lastly due to a shortfall of 1st team players they asked me to play the 1st grade game at 3.00pm. Prior to that, stints at Western Suburbs, Sydney Uni ( 2nd league Champions) for 2 years, NSW junior league training squad.

All for the game and club with a win at all costs attitude,  not the all for the money attitude.

Does that attitude still exist these day. If so tell me, It's a bloody rarity unless it's in the junior leagues below 16 years of age. You would be very surprised who I know and had the pleasure to know in the Top end of the game since my inception into the game way back then.

When WSW took up their position in the game, I like many, decided this team was worth following due to it's unique demographics at the time, non ethnic and full time with a potentially huge following. Not because I was not a Westie. It was about new team filling a void in the real football game, especially in Sydney, the only team at the time was the Sydney City team with Hakoah roots. Bring on WSW I thought.

It certainly took off like like rocket out west, no Melita Eagles, no Granville, no Blacktown, no Sydney United associations .. a true Western Sydney region team for the punters in that huge area. The membership was astronomical, the supporters were an eclectic mix of soccer mad ethnicity. Wow, what a start, the long starved real Soccer punters now had a club to identify with. What a fantastic demographic, no wonder it becam the most important football club in Sydney. The punters were passionate, the RRB was amazing, Premier League eat your heart out was the modus operandi and the first 2 year performances surpassed all expectations. What a great time to watch the game, with Victory in Melbourne as the de-facto soccer equivalent to the NRL state of origin games.

So ,where are we now? At the bottom of bear-ability IMO.

My mining industry types and I were considering sponsoring an A league team at the right time, this may well transpire, but our best interests must come first before investing into any team in NSW.

WSW were on my short list.

Pseudonyms on this forum are no indicator of capacity or capability. There appear to be quite number of very capable types on this forum, yourself included. Very impressed with the forum members overall.

Keep up the good work all. I am a passionate FOOTBALL maniac, I say what I feel , no holds barred.

"Can’t wait to see your Wanderers back at CommBank Stadium? Catch your Wanderers on Wednesday 13 April as our Isuzu UTE A-League Men take on the Central Coast Mariners at Wanderland. You won’t want to miss out on any of the action."

    My goodness.

All automated emails mate that would have been copy written and scheduled weeks ago. I understand your point though. They are tone deaf.

If that's the case I would have thought I had the requisite amount of posts by now or pretty close to it. DYOR (Do Your Own Research) on that matter. By the way, is this forum the official WSW authorised forum?

Should I email the WSW owner?

And no, there's nothing official about the site. In fact I started it before the Wanderers officially existed. Good to see the enterprise Mack, hats off to you. It's people like you and the posters that keep the interest up in a club that had a lot of Mojo until recent fiascos. You have my support.

My style is to keep the players and supporting staff know their short comings, whether they like it or not. Tongue in cheek of course, my soft spot is still with the WSW, but I didn't tell you that. As the ex founder of the Democrats in south Australia (Don Chip) used to say we have to  " Keep the bastards Honest" .. who ever they are.

WSW need to get their inherent identity back, I am sure a lot of the newer player sign ins have NFI who they are playing for or their ideal. That's a big problem, identity crisis.

2 positives  (setting a low bar!):

     1. We were infinitely better against Roar this time round. Last game against Roar was the absolutely woeful. It was the very worst I can remember us playing. I think it was CR's swansong.

    2. At least we weren't part of the huge loss/got really thumped brigade this round. Some extraordinary scores.

Being one of Margush's staunchest defenders and watching this on my phone.... I'm glad the phone cover is good enough any cracks.

That could be his career right there at 24 done and destined to be a number 2 now. Rudan's man management will have to come in now as to whether he decides to drop him for the rest of the season or persist to regain his confidence back. I really thought these mistakes from the team were gone and now to have this stupid habit come back to bite us again and drop points... Its frustrating after all the positive signs that we were building something for next season.

Looks like a GK will be one of our main signings next season. Just hope its not wasted on a foreign spot.

When the chance is still there to play finals ( slim I know.........) errors like that are imho opinion unforgivable. F***** his team mates and supporters over and potentially cost the club any chance of pf finals. Deja vu with this club and the Roar. It is not good enough. This sort of bullshit has to stop.

And yet Lopar was one of the best players to pull on a WSW jersey in my opinion and is a God in his own country / former club.

I don't want to use a foreign spot for a keeper either particularly but some of the debate and opinions on keepers on WSF have been truly bizarre these last few years.

The club approach to the position has been equally shambolic.

And if anyone speaks with Lopar or Mejias first I doubt any international keeper of any renown would want to come here anyway.

I sense Mejias already has his house packed up and mind more than half moved on weeks ago. I hope he plays some blinders between now and season end IF he plays...that would be his best 1 finger fairwell.
