The Wanderers faced Brisbane Roar at Parramatta this Saturday night needing a win to stay alive in the A-League finals race, only for a calamitous error from keeper Daniel Margush to hand the Roar a very late equaliser.

Brisbane were almost in front within a minute, after they picked the ball up in midfield an immediate long bomb over the top caught Tomislav Mrcela square, he was outpaced by Cyrus Dehmie. After bringing the ball to the pitch via a knee and a second touch with the foot he shot from the edge of the area on his left, cutting it back across goal, beating the dive of Margush but slicing it wide.

The Wanderers found the back of the net in the 41st minute. James Troisi played a neat pass into the area for the run of Jack Rodwell, his first time cross was fired hard enough and with Bernie Ibini putting pressure on, Roar defender Jack Hingert could do nothing more than to turn the ball behind into the net for an own goal.

In the dying seconds Western Sydney almost had a 2nd, when Keanu Baccus flicked the ball on at the near post, denied by a desperate flap from the Roar keeper that scooped the ball back out without it crossing the line.

On the hour mark the Roar put together a neat passing move inside the Wanderers box, it ended with substitute Luke Ivanovic getting a deflection off Mrcela that sent the ball over the bar for a corner.

Things went from bad to worse for the Roar when their captain Tom Aldred picked up his second yellow card for chopping down Rodwell after a classy turn on the side of the field. Referee Jack Morgan didn't hesitate with the cards and Aldred walked forlornly off the pitch having put his team under massive pressure in a game they were already losing.

Brisbane thought they had equaliser in the 86th minute, with Alex Parsons turning on the ball and firing it past Margush's right hand. He was however offside when the ball deflected off the pack and so play continued with a free kick to the home side.

With the match meandering to a Wanderers win, Daniel Margush decided to enter the Wanderers Terrible Goalkeeping Hall Of Fame with a mistake that topped the disasters of the Vedran Janjetovic era. A long distance back-pass was horribly controlled by Margush, the ball getting tangled in his legs with multiple touches unable to get it out from under him.

He attempted to dribble past Parsons, instead the striker closed him down, stole the ball off him and with an open net, Margush elected to drag him down in a tackle that Peter Sterling would have been proud of. It was the worst possible outcome in that situation. He could have picked it up for an indirect free kick. He could have kicked it over the byline for a corner. He could have let the Roar player score and give his team a few minutes with the one man advantage to win it. It was the most obvious red card Jack Morgan will ever hand out in his career as a referee and it sent Jay O'Shea to the spot, at least once Tomas Mejias came on in place of Bernie Ibini. O'Shea made no mistake, beating Mejias, levelling the game & neither team could add to the score in the frantic final seconds.

The draw didn't help either team's tiny hopes of making the finals, and it would surely take a miracle from here for either side to squeak into 6th place.

Western Sydney's next match is against the Central Coast Mariners, in Parramatta on Wednesday the 13th of April with kickoff at 7:05pm.

    Margush Madness, great title.

What on earth was he thinking?

Just push the ball back for a corner kick. That would of been the safer option than a penalty kick.

Honesty, he can go...I gave him a benefit of the doubt because he was under Robinson last season and he was terrible then. The match against APIA Leichhardt and tonight's performance sums up that he is complete dogs*it.

I'm assuming Meijas will play next game. Also, where the f*ck is Jack Warshawsky?!

I don’t visit this site much any more and I hardly watch Wanderers games any more either; but it’s easy to see why.

Tinpot league, with tinpot teams, and tinpot players. Too many fake, plastic franchises, with a recycled players and a revolving door retention system.

Can’t be bothered with it any more.

The whole game was PATHETIC. Who passed the ball back to MARGUSH and WHY?

PATHETIC coaching, PATHETIC attitude, PATHETIC management.

HAS BEEN players with a similar attitude.

Bright Spot: 2 younger players with GUTS

    HAD enough of this club.

Moved to the Central Coast recently, MARINERS look the part for a solid future,  WWS vs CCM, can't wait for that game, WWS will get thrashed.

This league is descending into kick the crap out of the ball and have a couple of fast forwards running on for fast breaks. Too many teams doing this. Worse is that it still works. Roar tonight, Mix, Adelaide, SFC... It is boring and brainless stuff and why Oz football is going down the gurgler.

I also don't understand how 'pro' footballers 3/4 thru season can't trap, control the ball, look up to pass, pass the ball to a player in their colours, hold the ball and use body, and the buggy: shoot the ball (not kick it towards the goal!) And keep it under the bar. I expect higher standards from juniors.

That was a bad game to watch....two teams that would struggle in the NPL.

Margush brain explosion made sure that fan's appreciation day will be remembered

We used to do this in season 1/2 but can't now because we're too slow.

Neither can we break teams down - few teams in the league can.

if you want an honest answer, it was Mrcela.

    And why?

Personally, I feel Traore and Cancar are caught ball watching so Parsons decides to sprint for the ball, Mrcela decides to pass it back to Margush. What Mcrela should of done is just kick the ball out of the field so it gave enough time for this lazy f*cking team to run back and get ready to defend.

Enough of this **** **** Margush. He's not good enough. He never was good enough, he doesn't have the potential to be good enough and should never be on the team sheet ever again.

If he's not getting chipped by an NPL part time butcher, he's doing ******* idiotic **** like this.

Oz football is going down the sh*tter because it costs 2K per year for your kid to play NPL level. You end up with a talentless private school boy competition after a few years.

Margush made a bad mistake and because it cost the win it’s magnified

I said recently I don’t believe rudan was convinced in him and I doubt this helps. Interesting to see after the red card if he’s back in.

    overall disappointing game

Walking to the ground I had no confidence that we would win. When we scored first (or should I say Roar scored for us) and then they had a player sent off I was more hopeful. But a lame performance from a bunch of inept players and a brain fart from our goalie led to a depressing draw. Our season is gone and dusted and it is about time Rudan left the geriatrics (Ibini, Troisi, and Traori) and loan players (Petratos and Okinawa) who should not be around next year, out of the team and give the youngsters some first team experience. Also any midfielder who does 2 or more consecutive back passes should be immediately subbed and never play again this season.

Two dreadful teams playing a dreadful game of football..Rodwell is the only player who actually is a footballer..ok that's harsh but he can actually control a ball and pass, amazing

Rudan was convinced enough to start him over a visa player on decent coin.

    That was vedranesque

Yep, Rudan has backed Margush to the max, his first pick keeper.

Minor thing. It the lineman was crap too, roar player handled the ball obviously outside his area

Seems like they checked it with VAR (I assume as a potential red card offence?) and cleared it. Although that's not much comfort knowing how badly positioned the cameras are.

It looked ok to me live. I'd say it was "on the line".

Margush had 10 meters and 3 seconds to do something with the ball before he got tackled.

One other note is that we were lucky that we actually had a sub window left to use. We still had Lopane and Hemed on the bench and they could easily have both come on for the last 10 minutes. In many games we've used the three windows long before the 90 is up.

A game not to be remembered!

Vedrans coaching of Margush looked effective.

There isnt going to be a miracle run to the top 6 but its important to stay in front of Perth.

Carlos squad looked top 4 at the season start(on paper) but Looks can deceive.

Another clean out and hopefully the scouts are at work now ,ready to bring some better players in.

    Top 6 NEXT SEASON!

Too many of these sorts of games over the years. Particularly against Brisbane too weirdly. Both teams certainly bring out the worst in each other.

Speaking of how useless this league is, can anyone explain why Sydney vs Central Coast deserved the Fta slot over Melb derby? Ffs they have no clue. The game in this country just finds new and novel ways to take backwards steps.....

What can you say about that. FMD !

Fans have every right to be angry at that and I wonder if the board/owners are proud that we told Lopar ( up there with Covic as one of our best keepers imho ) to take a pay cut or eff off. He did the latter.
