  • Late Draw Against For Wanderers Against City (Melbourne Branch)

    mack

A late own goal saw the Western Sydney Wanderers steal a late draw in a controversial match at the Olympic Park Showground tonight.

The game really came to life in the second half, with the ongoing saga of the awful A-League officials continuing for a second week. The first half was arguably the best effort defensively for the Wanderers this season, helped in no small part by goalkeeper Jerrad Tyson finally being given a chance in the starting lineup.

Five minutes after the resumption of play Western Sydney had the ball in the back of the net only to be denied by a blatantly incorrect offside call. Nico Martinez weaved his way through the City defence to release Kerem Bulut. The striker was clear on goal and after a great first touch he put his second below Thomas Sorensen and into the City goal. As he ran off to celebrate extensively in front of the RBB, the offside flag came down, with replays showing it was a shockingly poor decision.

Of course as luck would have it, City took the lead minutes later. Fernando Brandan crossed in from the left wing. The right foot cross looped in the air, evading the Wanderers defence. It fell luckily into the path of the Melbourne City striker, and he managed to stick out a toe, the bounce dropping perfectly to give him a tap-in.

The Wanderers came again and again, and despite a long stretch of City dominating possession, the home side stuck to their task and held the match at 0-1 until injury time. Finally, dramatically, the Red & Black onslaught paid dividends. Jack Clisby was free as a bird on the left wing, the fullbacks cross was inch perfect. Mitch Nichols & Lachlan Scott flung themselves at the ball, their movement dragging Neil Kilkenny deep into the 6 yard box. Kilkenny tried desperately to contort his body to avoid the ball but he failed, diverting the cross beyond Sorensen. A last gasp winner just eluded the Wanderers, their final chance was wasted as Scott Neville failed to find anyone with his pass inside the City penalty area.

With overall feeling of being robbed of three points, the late draw was the least the home side deserved.

The Wanderers play Brisbane Roar next Friday, the 25th of November at 7:50PM again at Sydney Showground Homebush.

Bossi is the biggest one eyed lying wank.

    Unbiased, truthful journalism?????

No wonder journalists get belted when you have numbnuts like Bossi.

If I ever see him in person, I will definitely give him a big kiss, a Liverpool kiss with all the trimmings, doesn't deserve anything less.

When I read bossi's article it sounded like Farman with the obvious jibes

Maybe Bossi is Fapman/PARRASFC. It all makes sense now. Although if PARRASFC wasn't banned he would be having a field day on this forum right now.

Yeah Aspro will get better. Thing is you have to keep playing the kid, not give him a rest for the next three weeks. That will disrupt all his rythym. The more games he gets, the less mistakes he will make.

On the crowd, I think it's another one of those years which is testing like season 3. We probably need a few seasons here and there like this (although don't like being 9th or 10th) to make the support base resistant against poor form. But we shouldn't have to accept mediocrity either. We are a big club in this league, and big clubs don't constantly perform poorly. Maybe a bit of the shine of the new club hype is wearing off with some supporters, but we still look pretty solid. All support bases get tested.

Martinez is getting better and better as he continues to gain fitness and confidence.

We still need to give ourselves a better chance to score by having players in and around the box. There was one time in the second half when Bulut broke free on the left and there was nobody inside to support and finish.

I must add that the pace of passing was much faster, particularly in the first half - so that was a positive - though Kerem still got himself offside far too many times in that first half. It was greatly to his credit that he improved in that second half and was so unlucky to be denied that goal.

Tyson should be pretty happy with his performance. Few keepers would have stopped that Cahill goal.

We seem to be improving marginally each week, though all we need is to be missing a key player like Santa and each game becomes a bit of a struggle.

The referee or assistant should have stopped that goal.

I call it a clean sheet for Tyson due to the f*** up

Yeah look all the above may well be the case. But in reading the article  I found it a little sneering but not greatly so. Factually are there no great falsehoods.

No reason for us to be that precious and sensitive . The best reaction is to use it as motivation and win games to shut him up.

The club has bought this situation upon itself and given him ammunition with poor recruitment and poor selection of playing style.

So don't worry about the messenger , do something about in January and if we don't we deserve copping shite.

Wtf is going on with the wildlife flying around the ground? The game started with flying ants and by the end I was attacked by moths the size of baby birds. It's dangerous airspace. I'd feel much safer if the police were carrying mortein.

Apparently the Moths and the stench around the ground came from Timmy's Wallet it hasn't been opened in a long long while, special equipment was brought in to remove it from the dressing room after intense fumigation.

Considering the police seemed to be breeding like flies last night I doubt they would be using mortein

Bulut is offside so often that the refs can almost be forgiven for thinking he was offside again when he scored.

Team was totally depleted after Cahill's goal. Then Popa subs on three players to turn the game around: Baccus, Scott, and Sotirio. There is something seriously wrong with this picture.

Riva is right to be critical of our recruitment, which has not been in keeping with our desire to be seen as a big, dynamic and growing club. If attendances have been static, one can look no further than the stuttering starts we have had to our seasons over the last three years that has sucked the life out of the club - despite much hard work to keep things bubbling along off the field.

Sometimes, you need to spend big to make a big impact - and we have not done this, despite reportedly having the capacity to do better.

Victory have Berisha, Melb City Fornaroli, Perth Keogh, Sydney Bobo (though they currently don't need him to fire to be successful) etc.

Maybe we particularly need a bigger name striker who can be a potent force up front to feed off the prompting and passing of Martinez and Nichols. Someone who can create a buzz in the community, amongst the existing fans and bring new ones through the gate. Maybe we will have to wait for next season for this to happen...

Such players are not easy to find and they certainly would not be cheap - but sometimes their value is more than their cost.

100% this. The impact of one of these types of striker on the pitch is clear, but off the pitch the effect of a talismanic striker can't be underestimated. Someone that the fans see and think 'we are always in with a shot'. Big gap in our recruitment.

None of those are "big names". Berisha and Fornaroli have both made their names in the A-league (did nothing of note before that). Keogh and Bobo both had reasonable careers in Europe but were never household names or ones to get bums on seats (before playing here).

We spent the money and recruited Pio last year, who was a dud. To me it is more to do with our scouting network.

I do agree that we should be utilising both marquee spots. And Popa is a stingey bastard, but you need some of that with a salary cap. Graham Arnold deliberately recruited less players so he could pay his core squad more money. We don't have that luxury with another ACL campaign upon us.

We need to be smarter with our recruitment, but there is no guarantee for success year in, year out, when the salary cap is designed to make teams equal (and works well at that). Watch if Sydney go on to win everything how many players leave for better offers both here and abroad. They'll have to rebuild again.

No violence with lots of cops there?

That's the justification (actually). We couldn't test this theory by removing them to find out if it's true or not because imagine the violence that would follow!

Back in season 1 and most of 2 when we were all over the media in a positive way ESFC got the shits in a big way. The way ESFC combated that was to get the SMH as their propaganda machine, it isn't just Bossi, it is the SMH as a whole that is unashamedly biased, they make no attempt to cover it and will never change.... do I give a ****...... no.I would never want to support a team plays the shithouse media that way. Fairfax media really are the evil scum of the earth, you only have to read their shitty click-bait news titles and left wing nut job sensationalism to see that. If I support a club that Fairfax media hates then I know I am on the right side of the tracks and all is good with the world  :good:

I'd rather slam my c*ck in a car door than read the telegraph, or any news limited paper for that matter.

Putting aside that I'm a bit of a left leaning wanker for a moment. Its hate filled sensationalised coverage of football alone is enough to put me off (before getting into the rest of it)

Standard of football coverage in Australia is dismal. The guardian has the occasional decent article from Cohen, or Gorman and of course the excellent David squires cartoons . All Sydney supporters which is fine as they generally don't let it show too much when writing. Guardian seems to run out of money and use AAP feeds for a lot of match reports and some of them have been nearly as bad as telegraph for cycling the football supporters are all hools line.
