  • Dino Cracks Parra FC Defense In Wanderers Home Debut

    mack

Dino Kresinger scored the only goal of the match to give Wanderers the win against Parramatta FC in their home stadium debut.

The Wanderers dominated the game from start to finish but took until the 60th minute to break the deadlock. Parramatta FC's chances were few and far between, with their best being a goal disallowed for offside after a long range shot was deflected by a player who was adjudged to be offside. Kubi again was a standout as he constantly attacked his marker, taking on multiple men and drawing fouls. He caused major problems for the defense and is set to play a key role in the season proper.

The RBB had it's first pre-match at the Woolpack Hotel and I would say about double the social night numbers turned up. The march up Church Street was golden, with people stopping what they were doing to watch and record the RBB going past. A lot of new members who put work in and got the hang of the chants quickly. A number of new chants were done during the match and will add to the repertoire. Not a single moment of trouble occurred and RBB members should be proud of their ongoing efforts to improve as we gear up for Round 1.

The Wanderers next match is against Newcastle Jets. It will be played at 2pm, next Saturday the 15th September. The appropriately named Wanderers Oval, Broadmeadow will play host. This match has previously been said to be a Newcastle Jets only match, but there is talk from the club that it will be open to Wanderers members as well. We will await further confirmation from the club in the next few days.

    Run in straight.

Dude don't judge a book by its cover.

We used half our youth league squad at various times tonight some of whom are only 16.

Just to let you know we have 3 further pre season trails

Newcastle, Wellington and ??? most likely on the last weekend prior to Round 1.

Well done to the RBB, you made a good atmosphere with the chanting. I wasn't too impressed with the football being played though. I know it wasn't a ful strength side but still, you would still expect more from them. This was my first time seeing the team play.

Dino sounds good so far! The Croatian guy I know must be right.

Dino impressed me. He showed good strength, positioning and ball control, plus a willingness to run both forward in attack and back into midfield to chase a lost ball.

d'Apuzzo seemed to be everywhere too. I thought he put in a good shift.

Minniecon looked great on the right in the second half. Fought his way through 3-4 opponents a couple of times.

I think I need to get new specs though. I was having a hard time making out some of the players even from my seat on the half-way line. Either that or binoculars.

The RBB was in great voice. Well done to everyone for providing a great soundtrack for the evening.

    Edit:

The only incident involving Police that I am aware of was when I got legged over by the police dog outside the entry gate. Suffice to say its head and my knee made an interesting sound when they collided. Bloody knee still aches this morning.

HERE were no fights or flares at Parramatta Stadium last night. So let's talk about what we were meant to be talking about all along. Football.

This was Western Sydney's first match at their new house - even if it was just a friendly - a place they will hope will one day feel like home.

Their owners, Football Federation Australia, have talked tough about pushing a round-ball vibe on the venue. Renaming the stands, removing rugby league logos, covering Ray Price's statue and so on.

As of last night, Michael Cronin's name still hugs the city-side wing. The Red and Black Bloc stood in the Peter Sterling Terrace. Price's bronzed figure wasn't under a hessian bag.

Perhaps that will change when they kick off in their first match on October 6 against the Central Coast Mariners. Time will tell.

But what was evident in last night's match against Parramatta FC - a match they won 1-0 - is that Tony Popovic's side have a clear philosophy for how they plan to play.

Possession and passing is king, from the last defender to the deepest forward. Popovic has stuck true to his promise of playing with the ball rather than without it, no matter the cost.

Wanderers' fans should be pleased by this. However, what's probably clear is that they are not going to be an overnight success with this style. It is an advanced, challenging methodology to learn, let alone execute.

On show here were all five of the Wanderers' visa players: German defender Jerome Polenz, Croatian duo Dino Kresinger and Mateo Poljak and two new signings: Italian Iacopo La Rocca and Ethiopian-born Dutchman Youssouf Hersi.

Those last two are not official yet but they soon will be.

La Rocca is a well-balanced midfielder who looked comfortable. Hersi is the opposite: wiry and unpredictable, he bounced around in the No.10 position. A scorer of more than 40 goals in the Dutch first division, he should create talking points though he was a little rusty here.

Kresinger's winner near the hour mark came after ex-Sydney keeper Matthew Nash spilled a shot from lively triallist Rhys Meredith, allowing the Croatian to tap home a simple finish.

It won't be the last goal Kresinger scores.

Meredith, alongside Adam D'Apuzzo, was perhaps the pick of the lot and did his chances of a permanent stay no harm.

I thought Dino was good. He worked hard, got in good positions and held the ball up well and when got the chance had a good shot/head on goal. I can see him being a handful even though he isn't quick. What impressed me the most about him was that he is a team player. Always going to the effort to thank players for their supply (one it took him three goes to give Kubi a thumbs up for a good cross which he headed at the keeper). Also thanking the crowd when he was subbed was a good showing as well. I can see him becoming a fan favourite.

Who was #2? I didn't rate him in the first half as he was getting in the wrong positions, losing the ball and not achieving much. But when he moved to a more central forward position he caused problems. It was his assist that gave Dino the goal (as the keeper spilled his shot i think).

Trifiro made the goal from a break away in midfield. To me Trifiro was the stand out. We didn't control the game until he came on. He is so comfortable on the ball and when in space caused very quick breaks that finished with final balls that almost always found their man (typically in a dangerous position).

I liked #4 as well - I think it was Jack Green? Seemed well composed at the back and passed the ball around well.

Who was the little quick guy that started up front next to Dino? Was it Hersi? It wasn't Kubi has he was on the outside right of this guy. I didnt like him. He lost the ball a lot, mostly from passing to the opposition. I know he drew the foul which lead to a free kick in the first half but to me it looked like he may have over acted to get it - which i'm not a big fan of. We improved a lot when Tahj came on to replace him in the 2nd half.

Kubi however on the right of Hersi was great. Never a dull moment when he got the ball.

It would have been good to have some numbers against players. I didn't have a clue who everyone was - and at one stage there was even two #6's on the pitch which didn't help!

    Thats him.

He's a Youth League squad member and IMO has been a standout since the initial open training sessions.

He'll easily make the step up to A-League level in time and will be an assets for us at the back or even left side of midfield for the foreseeable future.

Number 17 was Hersi and started alongside Dino. I agree he had a horrible touch and lost possession alot of times. Seemed to crack anytime he was put under the slightest bit of pressure.

I did not get a good look at the Italian guy La Rocca..didnt know which number he was. I did a google search on him, and all that game up was that he was an italian defender, previously playing for Zurich in the Swiss League

Whether you're impressed with the team or not, a couple of things...

    - We've only lost 1 game (at least in regulation time) and that was to a shifty refs decision anyway

    - No matter who your opposition is, you still need to perform to score goals. If you play poorly, the ball doesn't go your opponents net more often than it goes in yours.

And whether we play like an All Age 10's team or like we're going to win the A-League, if you're going to support the team, do so through thick and thin. Negativity never got any team anywhere.

First wanderers game I've been to and really enjoyed it. I didn't think the turn out was too bad for a 7pm Sunday night kickoff vs bottom of NSWPL (1000+).

    Now to what really matters...

The RBB sounded AWESOME. First thing I heard when I walked in (5 mins after the start, thanks Parra Stadium) was the chanting before I even saw any football. Chants easy to pick up and some real quality. Well done guys!! Looking forward to R1 and then the Derby.

Kresinger was v good, but don't know how the "big striker" type of football will work. Interested to see how we'll use him. Kubi and Tahj looked a class above ordinary opposition (as they should) and Poljak went ok too. I thought Hersi only looked average, but we'll see what happens from here. Don't know who La Rocca was.....

Saw the tweet from the club about the starting lineup before the game, but without numbers made it very difficult. They need to fix that up.

    On the game.

Kubi is much better suited coming off the bench and running at tired defenses. Not quite a starter just yet.

Kresinger (#9 first half) got better as the game went on. Big lump of a man, and was able to hold the ball up when played in at his feet or in the air. He won't be troubling anyone with 'pace'

Minneconn (#21) played the same role as Aaron Mooy and was best on ground. If he can get fit, he could be awesome for us. He just needs more game time and fitness. Skill level is there and can pick a pass, just needs to get fit !

Right Back (#6) absolutely stinks. No idea who he is or was, but he gave away the ball so many times with poor passes or a poor first touch. There were 2 number 6's for a while there and the other 6 was ok, but the right back was horrible.

Blondie - 2nd half. Was it Mooy ? I didn't think it was. Looked lively and quick. Want to see him again. Only got limited minutes but showed promising signs.

Another clean sheet, but still a stack of work to do.

Minnecon, the same role as Aaron Mooy??

Minnecon played wide on the right. He is a completely different player to Mooy.

I think I am the only one who didn't think he was anything special. Not that he was bad. He played better in the second half when he had better players around him. Would like to see him develop combinations with players as he probably lacks a little a pace. Didn't see to much of his aerial presence which will be an important factor for us. Would definitely like to see more of him with the right players around him.

I wouldn't say that, yet. Berisha would have plenty to say about that, as would Smeltz.

He does play similar to Cazarene but better imo and Popa seems to have a plan to properly integrate him into our play

he's marginally better than brosque was.

as for berisha, who cares, the guy is a tool. even an NRL player would be ashamed of how that guy carries on.

i was in the comfort of the stands but the RBB sounded awesome especially considering there weren't seemingly a lot of RBB there but there was heaps of noise and it carried well through the stadium, probably more entertaining than the game itself! the chanting and songs sound like they are really coming together. i was a bit disappointed with the crowd of 1063, i thought there would have been more but scheduling the game for 7pm on a sunday night seemed designed as a test run for the season proper and to keep the crowd down=no trouble. on the other hand seeing as there were only 3 ticket windows open just as well there weren't more than 1000, some people got in to the game late as it was?

starting line up from twitter: Taylor, Polenz, D'apuzzo, La Rocca, Beauchamp, Hersi, Green, Meredith, Appiah-Kubi, Poljak, Kresinger

half time changes: Beauchamp, Appiah-Kubi, Poljak off; Jason Trifiro, Labinot Haliti, Jake McGing, Nicholas Olsen on

+ further changes made during the second half

i still really don't have much idea about who the players are except for the former a-leaguers, but i did recognise polenz #6 at right back, he bizarrely had some school-boy errors giving the ball away a couple of times, but did a couple of classy things like a good strike at goal direct from a free kick. anyway a good night's entertainment and i can't wait for the season proper.

Good point on Dinos physicality. He should settle fairly quickly in this league because of that.
