  • Derby Draw At Least We Didn't Lose

    mack

The final regular season Sydney Derby match ended without a Wanderers win, didn't end in a loss either.

Western Sydney haven't had the best results against Sydney FC in the past two seasons, but with top of the table beckoning, they came out and dominated the early stages against Sydney FC. A mere 13 minutes into the game the visitors had the opening goal. A simple run down the right flank for Mark Bridge, he cut back onto his favoured right foot, then launched a cross into the penalty area. Dario Vidosic was unmarked, and from 12 yards out glanced a header that was past Vedran Janjetovic in moments.

Sydney FC managed a fluke goal to get back on level terms just after half an hour. Scott Jamieson was beaten by Holosko to ball played in behind the Wanderers fullback, Holosko whipped a cross in along the turf that beat everyone to make way over to David Carney. The ex-Newcastle winger rolled the ball back into the penalty area to Alex Brosque, and his backheel flick deflected off Jamieson and trickled past debutante goalkeeper Liam Reddy at the near post for an own goal.

The second half was typical derby fare, with neither side truly taking the match by storm. Chances were few and far between, but both sides kept looking for a winner. A late set piece for the Wanderers nearly turned into disaster, as Sydney FC broke on the counter, only for the final shot to curl just wide.

Despite the draw, an extraordinary 6-3 win for Perth Glory against Brisbane Roar over in Western Australia saw the Wanderers draw level on points with the Roar, but ahead on goal difference by a solitary goal.

Love how the most common name you see on the back of a smurf is del piero...a guy who played for two seasons in which they didn't make the finals. Says it all about their club.

It's like me having Nick Ward on mine.

    Not really.

Maybe Saba, which plenty of people do have.

Ok, I was exaggerating a bit...

I don't think anywhere near as many people have Saba.

Okay, I think we have a new quest...

Let's see if we can find a WSW fan wearing a shirt with Ward on the back.

Actually...let's broaden it. A new thread with 'spot the shirt with minor WSW player's name on the back', where you must provide photographic proof of said shirt worn at a game.

    Need to find:

    Ward...Adeleke...Visconte...Minnecon...Lo...D'Cunha  :xnod:  :meep:

Winner is anyone who finds someone wearing a GK jersey with Saliadiere (sp?) on the back.

Run close by a Madaschi shirt

I've definitely seen someone in 55 with Adeleke on his shirt. Bad times.

Probably his cousin or something that he was able to bring into the country with his visa.
