  • 4-1 Win For 10 Man Wanderers

    mack

The Western Sydney Wanderers halted a streak of 6 games without a victory by punishing the Central Coast Mariners 4 goals to 1.

Blake Powell, who cannot stop scoring against the Wanderers no matter who he is playing for, opening the scoring for the home side in the 5th minute. Storm Roux broke down the right flank using his electric pace, and his cross back into the centre found Powell. His first time strike took a deflection off Scott Neville to beat Jerrad Tyson.

The Wanderers were back level instantly. Jumpei Kusukami cutting inside onto his right foot and yet again the deflection did the work for the striker as the ball looped over Paul Izzo and into the side netting at the back post.

On the half hour mark Nico Martinez put the Wanderers in the lead. Mitch Nichols delivered a pinpoint cross over the penalty spot, and the Red & Black marquee Nico Martinez flew through the air like a dart to throw himself at the ball, his header whistling past Izzo for a 2-1 lead.

It was 3-1 five minutes after the break, Scott Neville steaming along the byline, his cross hammered into the legs of Jake McGing and beat Izzo all ends up.

Western Sydney were reduced to 10 men with a contentious call from Kris Griffiths-Jones. Trent Buhagiar ran in on goal but his attempted chip hit Tyson, who then clattered into the striker. Despite the ball flying away, the referee deemed it a foul from Tyson, then sent off the keeper for denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity.

Mariners coach Paul Okon made a raft of changes designed to increase the firepower, but all it seemed to accomplish was giving the 10 men of the Wanderers more time and space in the midfield & final third, super sub Brendon Santalab added to his legacy by finishing the game off as a contest in the 87th minute, taking one touch to put the ball at his feet then powering the second into goal.

The Western Sydney Wanderers face Melbourne Victory next week at ANZ Stadium, on Saturday the 10th of December at 7:50PM.

Got beaten on the wings a number of times and luckily CCM couldn't finish or shoot on target (hit the post though).

Too many times we were beaten and the cutback was on and a CCM attacker was unmarked in the box. Another team would have punished us.

Tyson made a bad decision. Our defenders were there.

At least when Redmayne flies out of the box he gets to the ball first and then gets kicked in the head to win the foul.

Tyson has a lot to learn ;)

Quite unfair blaming Tyson for that one.... he did get to the ball first and won it! The only problem was that like many other poor referees, Griffiths-Jones penalised the guy who came out strongest/the least hurt from the collision.

Brings back memories of Ante knocking over Taggard, everyone waiting for the red card to be shown, just for the ref to declare that he had blown the final whistle already. What a finale to the game in Newcastle that was.

I went out for my son's birthday dinner and saw up until 2-1 at home. I somehow managed to gather the will power to not look at foxtel go or the score until i could watch 2nd half later in the night.

I did however get a message from a mate saying "what a hit!!".......my mind was wandering. Who scored a cracker? Nico? Mitch?......nope its a flying tyson almost killing some nuff. Would never have guessed lol

Still shirty to have missed the game but happy that chances started flying in. Pumped for this Saturday

If roles were reversed we'd be screaming murder and wanting the GK sent off instantly.

KGJ had to think about it though because he took his time before pulling out the red.

Agreed with Erebus. The fascination with Tyson is beyond me. He was at fault - he's decision making has been poor again. He came out when it wasn't needed against Jamie Maclaren and concedes a penalty. Comes out in the CCM match and gets red carded. He's been a lot more stable in goals than Redmayne but his mind implodes so often when he appears. In a preseason match a similar brain explosion happened that Erebus and I were discussing earlier comes to mind.

Whether you want to argue whether the striker kicked the ball or not is irrelevant - the striker SHOULD kick the ball before being crash tackled - thats how you earn the foul against the opposition. His eagerness gets the better of him or he just has brain explosions.

Bossi, match review, mentions mariners possibly should have had a penalty for an Aspro handball (anyone remember that one?) but doesn't mention the one we should have had.

It frustrates me when the "analysts" bring up non-issues like this. Really scraping the bottom of the barrel.

    Peak Bossi

Should take any opinion of his with a grain of salt

Fullbacks doing a fantastic job imo. The system is designed to have them bomb on and provide the width. It's why we have two more defensively minded mids to sit and cover.

Without them we would never have that wide outlet and we would struggle to keep possession or create chances.

The price you pay is that you are vulnerable to quick, wide counters.

    no praise for Neville's goal?

that was a goal that you'd only see players like Zidane, Henry, Ronaldo or Mark Bridge attempt - the ol' "kick it into the defender to go around the keeper" trick.

    absolute football mastery there.

Is it Harps or Slater who always bangs on about slamming it in low and hard across the goal?

Def Slater. Harps bangs on how awesome Aussie players are compared to  the rest of the world

Am very happy at Piñatares' improvement game to game. Can deliver a good long ball and shows that Uruguayan steel.

However I still believe that our transition/passing game needs to speed up heaps more.

Borda should be booted asap, way too slow.

For all of Bulut's passion, he is still at state league level at best.

    Bring in a proven striker!

Actually, a keeper, centre back and striker is what we need.

    I love the coastie trip!

One of our favourite fixtures .... but ....

The food in the bistro at the club sucks! It used to be a decent $10 feed to combine with a beer and 3 points, and now it mirrors at best the food you can buy inside the stadium (though I think the sausage sandwiches in the stadium ar actually superior).

When you have the locals saying "Don't bother eating here fellas - head to the RSL", you know they've ****ed up.

    Total rip off.

I complained and the poor staff had probably a gob full just agreed with me in that the offering was crap -game day menu.

They will now lose  $200  every time we go up to the Sea Bogans.

We were also told by a local that the bowling club was a better option, maybe will give this a try next time

Bossi is a sewerage Smurf loving oxygen thief, a very sad excuse for a journo

1 match suspension confirmed on a league site

Yep. But nothing for North the diving, cheating ****.

Should have been done for bringing the game into disrepute. Our game doesn't need to give the other codes any ammo.
