Attendance Statistics :: Totals / Averages (Home Club) :: Ultimate A-League The average regular season crowd is 1k per game higher, which equates to about 12% higher. I think we should be happy with this as a step forward, not an end product. Auckland is a big reason for this absolutely - nice they finally got one expansion correct. Of the other clubs, most are either up (Adl, MVC, Brisbane (amazingly), Bulls (from a very low base), or about the same as last year. The only ones really down are Perth (no surprise), Melbourne City (no excuse at all for them), and us (sadly).

I know I'm like a scratched record but we have won twice at home all season, hardly sets the heart racing EmMac and nmh94 2

The training stadium (even though they played only 3 games so far) is helping them grow their base as well. We are the ones anchoring atm after last year's implosion and fans haven't really been won over yet for this season. nmh94 1
Davo Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Western United are up 24% on last year which sounds good, but to put that into perspective the total number of people who have attended all of their home matches combined is less than we had for the Round 1 derby. Also the average attendance is up 6% on last year because we have a new team. If you take Auckland's home games out we're down 2.5% on last year.

They will bump the overall up at the end of this year too. It isn't really fair to take Auckland crowds out of any equation - rather, it should be celebrated they are increasing things. We certainly crowed about the early affect we had. Especially considering the last couple of expansions were duds - let's call this a win ey? The way I see things this year has been positive crowd wise for all clubs compared to last year, with the exception of us and Melb City. I really don't know what can be done about them and getting a fan base. BoyFromTheWest 1

I'd suggest that while Victory crowds are technically "up", they have been terribly disappointing for much of the season given their good start. It's looking pretty grim this side of the Tasman

I really don't know what can be done about them and getting a fan base. On the Ultimate A-League site you can exclude the finals from the numbers. If you do that and exclude Auckland it's up 2%, having already played 2/3 Sydney derbies and 2/3 Melbourne derbies since they front end the draw with the big games. I'm happy Auckland are successful and their numbers are a net positive for the league, but I also don't want that to hide what's going on with everyone else by adding a new team to the average so I think it's worthwhile making the like for like comparison with last year by excluding them. CCM and Perth are both down 3% and 1%, given their form compared to last year I don't see that going up. Brisbane were up because of a big crowd at their Unite Round game right before the Sydney derby in the same stadium, which I suspect was just derby goers arriving early. Without games at neutral venues they're down 6%. City are down 11% having already played their home Melbourne derby. Jets are up but they've only played 4 games at home and 2 of them were against NSW teams so we'll see how that tracks through the season. Bulls are down 10% although the Mariners are the only NSW team they've played at home so far so I think that will go up. We're the biggest worry. We're down 4% and we've had our one home derby. We've played 6 non-derby home games so far this season with an average of 7,025. In our first 6 home games last season (didn't have a home derby early last season) we averaged 9,618 so we're down 27%. 4 of our 7 home games were against NSW based opponents so we can't rely on good away bays. nmh94 Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Yep, certainly agreed that us and City are the biggest worries. Our problems are well documented across this forum. City was poorly thought out to begin with and their oil owners don't give a stuff about them. I guess my point was more that it it isn't all doom and gloom. Even with the poor cases mentioned above, it is still up. And who would have thought even 5 years people in NZ would turn up in numbers of 25k plus for 'derby' games that are a 9 hour distance from each other? StringerBellend 1
StringerBellend Posted January 23 Posted January 23 We are down as we are losing almost every home game. It is as simple as that. Big Derby crowd round 1 to watch us meekly roll over and our drawcard marquee player play 19mins. Not to sound like a Kopite or Man U supporter but the league as a whole needs a strong winning WSW. We win games and stray playing well and our crowd could average 20000+. Melbourne city win the league and nobody cares nmh94 and 102megan 2
