Ok on Stajic watching a different game. I'm 10 seconds into his press conference.. apparently the game was a great spectacle

It could have gone either way not much in it.

I think I dislike him more than the last guy

Mate, be serious for a moment. 😅

Defence, the back 4 and keeper, sitting up above the RBB last night, was just waiting on the mistake that somehow didn't happen, referring to the playing in and around the box at goal kicks, you could argue they did not score but by christ it was not nice to watch as a home fan.

You could see the FC front line on starting blocks waiting for keeper to tap it sideways and rushing in to pressure, not good to watch for me.

The negativity is crazy lol, its literally round one vs a team that has been playing competitive football for a month..

Can we improve? yeah of course but reading some comments here and on socials, you’d think someones getting executed

Well no. The fixture list was no secret. There was a clear goal to be prepared for a battle round 1 for the derby. We weren’t.

Yep. There are things to critique, but to write off Staj and the season at this stage is a bit much.

Right so i suppose the season is over then? Yeah alright I get we weren’t prepared for the game vs a team that clearly was, but to have some comments suggesting that the season is over based on a performance in round one is a bit much from some people.

For once I totally agree with you.

Once again we start a season with a big crowd and roll over

Yes you are right. At least this one seems like a nice enough guy.

But he's another Gumby

It's far from season over but..

We have a big problem in defence that we have had all off season to address and we have a massive hole where a midfield should be.

What's more frustrating and depressing it isn't just how we performed in round 1, the game basically summer up our last few years.

- stupid goal conceded check

- slow build up play check

- getting out fought by Shelbyville check

- Brilantte killing every attack stone dead

- a left back that can't cross, pass or defend

- delusional press conference

it's now obvious why the Korean dudes club let him go out on loan (he's Borda levels of bad).

Does the predictions thread have a Bad Take of The Year Award because I think I’ve found my nominee.

I'm in "the season is over" corner.

We'll win a game or two. Mata might have a flash of brilliance here or there.

With this current squad, we aren't making the 6.

Few seasons ago we had Layouni, Schneiderlin, Ninko, Mrčela, Marcelo, Yengi, Amaltifano, Nieuwenhof and a firing Borello... yet we chocked in the semi vs FC.

Only players that I liked from last night's performance were Hammond, Holliday and young Vidackovic.

Stajcic won the spoon last year with Perth. Mitigating circumstances aside, but which other club in the league would've been dumb enough to acquire his services???

Season was gone for me when we let Younis go. Only player that I wanted to see in the starting 11 on game days. Loving watching what he is doing at PSVs second team.

I applaud every fan for staying positive, but the GF in Adelaide was a very long time ago for me, and I don't see us making the big dance any time soon.

Hope I'm wrong.

Actually I am wandering how Graham Arnold won a championship with Brilliante in the midfield.

It was a few years ago, at 31 he ain't the player he was at about 26

Sick of the negativity? Well I am sick of starting a season being hopeful and waiting for the inevitable kick in the nuts.

And if you see the makings of a competitive side in this mess than you are watching another team.

Our recruiting has not improved us anywhere on the park (and that includes Mata who is gonna be a 20-30 minute impact player at best - and wait for the injuries to start). In many areas we have gone backwards. Our youth players either can’t step up or if they can they soon leave. We have a mid-table coach.

And the worst part of this is that all this failure over how many seasons is not because we don’t have resources. It’s because we have made bad decisions and pissed millions up against the wall.

So don’t give me the ‘don’t be negative’ line. They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result. I say the definition of insanity is being a Wanderers fan.

What about the two goals he was at fault for made you think oh maybe he's not so bad..He was absolutely terrible.

As for predictions I was within 5 minutes with my first goal being from needlessly playing out from the back.

I'm mystic meg me. Although it hardly needed a sprit guide to see that one coming

Going into the game, the Syd FC side looked a lot stronger on paper and so it proved to be. They were probably 2 goals better imo. With a proven A-league performer like Lolley, the new Polish striker who looks the goods, and Costa, they will be hard to stop imo. Combine this with a few other guys, who may not be worldies but are experienced and know the league (Redmayne, Grant etc), it isn't really surprising they had us covered. Consistency in squads is something we have never got right. Realistically, their side is better than ours and so it proved to be.

They will be right up there as a competitor to win the league. I am interested to see how we go against more average opposition in the next two weeks. Our defence concerns me a lot though.

Other concern: An excellent crowd numerically but the percentage of the crowd that were Syd FC fans was by far the highest I have ever seen at Parramatta.

I think our group saw a different game.  Reading this firm today feels like we lost 10-0 and really had absolutely nothing.

I get the drama of derby and we lost to our moral enemies and the sun failed to rise today and... but, we had a good night,. Disappointing not to get a result but the reality was I thought we'd really get done and we didn't.  They have arguably the best thing 4 and midfield, a more settled squad who has had decent real match preparation...

How many actual good shots did they have? 3? For all their supposed domination (which is disagree with), it didn't translate. Can we improve? Absolutely!  I also wondered why it takes a squad a few weeks to get up to speed after months of pre- season and I realised it is about real, competitive game fitness and translating the training ground fills,  practice games etc into reality. It will take time.

Mack, sorry in have to disagree with you on the title of the report (the report was good and fair overall) and your assertion that Gumby had a plan.

We'll see...

I agree with most of that and that's why it's so frustrating. Sydney for all their big signings weren't really all that. We had some decent periods, but once again we gave the game away in a very typical WSW way.

First goal came from playing our and then not adjusting when we lost the ball..The second from the 8 not bothering to mark

He’s been great in preseason and was universally praised on here for his performances in the Cup, but one bad game against one of the strongest teams in the comp, with almost zero protection from the midfield and suddenly he’s being compared to the worst CB we’ve ever had.

I’m used to you going full Eeyore in the post match threads but this feels a bit much.

Hence flukes!

I maintain my position that both goals were flukes. Our goal was all class, plus Borrello would've had a penalty anyway as he was brought down so that one is 100% a goal
