Tranquilo Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Staj is stuck with an average squad, but that's what good managers do, they build a team around their strengths and weaknesses. The kneejerk reaction of bringing on 3 or 4 subs after going down 2 goals screams, my plan didn't work lets go bring on the ones who werent good enough to start the game. Staj also seems to be tired of the whole Mata drama with his outburst in the media not helping his cause. If we were winning then that would shut them up but 1 win out of 5 means he simply hasn't found a forumula or formation to have us playing good football with Mata included. I think his biggest problem is defence, we can score goals but he needs to work out how to cover the back 4 either by packing the midfield or getting rid of the wingbacks. This is his time to shine but were an impatient lot as year after year its the same disappointing results. He's on borrowed time already, its time to put him to the test and see what miracles he can perform with this mediocre squad. StringerBellend 1
pseudonym Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Considering that Staj and Cheng have worked together for a while and it's a one year deal, is it realistic that he would get sacked? Wouldn't the board just tell Staj that they're not renewing the contract then organise another "worldwide search" ? i.e. ring up Graham Arnold because they're lazy btron3000 1

Yep, that's true, but wasn't that the point of signing Mata? To get fans of European teams to come to Commbank stadium? The club got the money from the Round 1 derby Smoggy and theguyyouwishyouwere 2

Although I'd say we actually have a better than average squad, certainly in attack. He's not getting the best out of it. Borello Milanovic Keav Mata Sapsford Hammond All good attacking players, better than what most managers have access to. Thomas is one of the best keepers in the league, Brallante and Priestman aren't terrible. Still early so maybe he will sort it. As much as losing to Sydney twice is ****, at least they are good team, it's the conceding 4 to Adelaide and the dreadful Western United performance that are putting the pressure on. theguyyouwishyouwere, Smoggy and LetsPele 3

It’s pretty clear the only way out of this mess is to hire a proven coach (hopefully with good contacts for assistants and overseas players) who can tell the board/CEO to **** off and let him run the show. Who has the standing to do that? Unless it’s a foreign coach we’re left with… Popa: kind of busy right now Ange: ditto (and wouldn’t come back to the a league for a squillion bucks) Arnie: ugh Who else? Muscat doesn’t have that kind of kudos at this point. Montgomery? They’d still tell him what to do I reckon. “Ahh you only coached the Mariners” Kisnorbo? Other coaches I have mentioned Pete Cklamovski - rumours that he's going to coach in China with Shandong Taishan Shaun Ontong - former assistant to Musky at Yokohama FC, not sure where he's at the days. Ross Aloisi - another Musky assistant, he's probably going to follow Musky to Europe. But he played brilliant football with the Roar last season when he was there. Arthur Papas - gone to Cerezo Osaka. John Hutchinson - has done ok considering the circumstances at Yokohama FC this season after the sacking of Harry Kewell.

mack Posted 3 hours ago Author Posted 3 hours ago Funny how you can have a dead coaching career 1 game after almost winning the Asian Champions League.

One year deal from a bloke that wanted him. Doesn't say much about either of them. I thought it couldn't get worse the Robbo. If he's not worse, he's definitely on par with him Smoggy 1

Staj is a decent manager in the women's game..or maybe as a number 2. Feel a bit sorry for Staj actually.

I still remember that press conference where Robbo said we didn't shoot enough and were always looking for the perfect goal, even though we were near the top of the league for shots per 90min and dead last for percentage of shots on target. Still don't know whether he was just saying what he thought people wanted to hear or if he genuinely had no idea of the actual numbers. Smoggy 1

If Robinson is a fraud what does that make Stajcic who has only managed a single decent season in men's football? Stajcic's one good season was his 44% win rate 20/21 Mariners where his team got knocked out in week one of the finals by 6th place Macarthur. Then he quit because Charlesworth wouldn't spend more money and thought that he couldn't improve the team, only for the next guy to also make Week 1 of the finals and then taking the team to winning two grand finals, a premiership and the AFC semi-pro not a treble farmers cup. Robinson at least managed 5 decent seasons at Vancouver, then a good half-season at the Jets and his first season at WSW was better than what Stajcic has done at Perth, WSW and his first season at the Mariners.

Hmmmm 5 decent seasons at Vancouver...if only that Vancouver supporter who briefly posted here would pop back to see your post. Half seasons mean nothing. He was a fraud..
