Looks like 15 May last year, with three match’s unused on the bench following that.

6 months out wow 😮 oh well anybody at this stage is a blessing I’d given go hope

50 games for the Nix I don’t remember him that much but at least he should make it a bit more competitive for spots 👍

Laws is a good signing but is he fit enough to play?

Posted (edited)

Who'll be fitter first him or Wookie?

Also only signed for remainder of the season.

That looks a worry.

Try before you buy perhaps. Could be with a view to sticking around next season.

Unless Staj already has someone better in mind for next season?

Sapsford is now just 1 goal behind Alex Brosque for most goals in Sydney Derbies

Difference is when Brosque scored they usually flogged us. It says a lot about Saps that he's able to hit a record like that during such a poor run of teamwide form. Must re-sign him if at all possible.

How long is it going to take him to get fit...a month?

We've played 16 games with 10 left to go. If it takes him a month to get some fitness up.

That leaves 6 games as a trial for next season I presume.

Yep weird signing if he isnt fit and ready to go - time will tell i guess

Not really he was the only decent Aussie CB left. We needed reinforcements there. 5 month contract is a more a trial to see if he is good enough long term for us.

Jeong is on loan so will go back to his club end of season so we still need a CB long term, and with European clubs acting like sharks on Aussie youth players it honestly wouldn't surprise me if a bid comes out of nowhere for Bonetig or Panta. Or even any of other younger players.

Fingers crossed he has been training over the summer.

Odd one signed to end of season 10 more games, hasn't played for months.

I like him though and hes what we need, hopefully he gets fit quick enough to make an impact.

Problem with the try before you buy 5 months is it works both ways. if he is ace he may use this as a sales window op yo go back overseas

But a back 4 I'd

gersbach laws Bonetig Cleur would be decent

That is exactly the kind of player to stay well clear off at this point in time. Had a knee injury, played one game since then, in October.

By the time he's gotten over the jet lag, is used to the temperatures and regained match fitness it would be Xmas.

But maybe we'll read soon that was are in negotiations with a former Norwegian international.

What's your thoughts on the Josh Laws signing?

Unknown injury not played since October and last club was in Switzerland.

Yeah that is good enough as a backline. Should be good to go by the final round.

Yep and there is the problem can we stay close enough. gersbach can't be too far away (if he was on the bench)

I don’t agree with signing players that aren’t ready to play. 9 times out of 10 it’s cause they’ve either been chronically injured our out of form. Neither of which inspire confidence. And at the level of the aleague, it’s rare a player is such an exceptional talent that you’d be willing to give it the patience it requires to be match fit. Not worth the risk imo

This signing feels like two things

1. A panic signing: basically signing someone desperately to resolve an issue with is the squad is in a much needed centre back.
2. Stajcic (if he remains at the club) is preparing for next season already.

I think it's a little bit of num 1 and a lot of num 2.

The problem with it being 2 is the contract is until the end of the season, so if he does really well nothing to stop him going back to Europe or for that matter anywhere else

Jeong is on loan. We have 2 CBs and SPL might decide to yoink one of them. So yes. Cover for now and test to see if its a good long term signing

i'm talking Stajcic, not the player. He knows we are weak at the back. That's why a lot of num 2.

I had a look at the grasshoppers' forum. He was well respected, no mention of the injury, it's seems that someone in the club took a view and he got shafted.

I'd say he was looking for a different professional home, then the transfer windows closed, and he probably ran out of options.

Not sure if he is going to help us much at this point, it'll take a while before he is match fit. But at least he knows the league, that has to count for something.

I hope Laws might have a similar impact to when Mrcela arrived mid season.

Came to the club having had little gametime, got thrown straight into a derby (I believe the last one we have won at home) and kept a clean sheet.

Was on a short term deal, extended after the big impact he had in such a short time.

Well, the Sydney Derbies are done for this season. But, I get what you mean.

It would be nice if he was in the game against the Bulls as it's a vital win for the Wanderers this week.

So in other words he will likely just use us as a spring board back to Europe. I know that’s the reality of the aleague but you at least want those moves coming about naturally off the back of good form. Signing blokes who are coming purely with that intent never sits well with me

Are they? We will get them in finals. 4th time lucky for Big Al

This is what I was going on about if it's a signing for next season then not locking him on makes no sense as if he does perform then he'll be off back to Europe
