Cleur being out weakens the backline for sure, although he seems to be this year taking the Tarore award for giving needless free kicks away Simmons hasn't hit full fitness but it really looks like Staj doesn't see him as a right back. Jeong was a disaster zone before the injury so nothing so far shows that he would make the team stronger, arguably our defence has been better without him. Brillante has been decent this year, the problem (and just my opinion) is that having him and Priestman in a 2 man midfield means we actually have nobody to take the ball from the Centre Backs and move it forward. For that reason Sciuluna (and also because of his sexual goals) being out is the biggest issue, and totally valid reason for some of Staj and WSW struggles. That said it looked like we solved it the other week putting Mata in there with Priestman, and Brilante in at centre back, for whatever reason Staj didn't agree and so moved it all round again for the Mariners game reintroducing both issues. Agree. Losing Sicluna has been a major blow. Looked like he was on course to have a break out year... Unfortunately for him and us, it turned into a breakdown year. Unlimited Posted January 24 Posted January 24 I believe in Jeong Hendry I understand he's expected to play to a higher standard as he is an import but some of the comical defending I've seen from Bonetig and co. which get a pass here I assume because they're young/not taking up a foreign spot/are former youth players/whatever... mack and LetsPele 2

Not to say I don't feel sorry for him and of course the injury held him back. But I don't think Russel has anywhere near the skill of sciluna. I Edited January 24 by StringerBellend

Jeong's defending was no less comical, he was absolutely terrible in derby 1 gave away a ridiculous penalty against the Jets and was not much better in any other game. I think the longer he has been out the better player people think he was. He's a visa Centre back and so far he has looked like a Korean Aritz Borda. Again happy to be wrong and maybe he needs time in the league etc. Edited January 24 by StringerBellend Upthehill 1

Bonetig and Panta being young and at the start of the careers its natural that we will give them a pass on some things. They have saved us points and at other time I have wanted slap some sense into them. Its part of the process. Jeong though as a foreign import he has to be better. Its also hard because his following Marcelo. Its partly unfair as well to judge him when he has been injured but we can only judge on the games he played. And I am not to confident he improves the defence to the level needed. Happy to be proven otherwise on his return Edited January 24 by Sithslayer1991 BoyFromTheWest and StringerBellend 2

Upthehill Posted January 24 Posted January 24 10 hours ago, LetsPele said: There's a reason Thurgate has played for the Jets and Western while Brillante went from the Jets to Sydney, to Melbourne City, then Melbourne Victory. He also played Seria B and was transferred to a Seria A club. He's also been picked for the Australian men's team. Granted Thurgate is younger, and yes he is a talented player (he played for the Joey's at some point), but he simply ain't a better player than Brillante was or is. Brillante has simply become a scapegoat for our poor performances. Every mistake amplified and his toil and hard work forgotten. I would not swap Brillante for Thurgate. Brillante was absolutely horrific in his 2 games for Fiorentina. He was so bad, he was subbed at the 35th minute mark on debut. His second game was only because of enormous injuries tolls. He played 20 odd games in Serie B and finished dead last. Brillante was again frozen out, same as Empoli and Fiorentina. I wrote a whole novel about all of the 7 clubs Brillante has been booted from, but its probably somewhat pointless. Delted it, and will say this instead - We apparently see very different performances from Brillante we watch his games. Theres a reason the removal of Brillante and injection of Scicluna got people excited (and we got results). When mighty mouse is back from injury im sure we will all be happy!! StringerBellend 1
Sithslayer1991 Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Um....Yea Degenek isn't comming. Below article Degenek is expected to sign with Backa Topla in Serbia. https://sportklub.n1info.rs/fudbal/srbija-super-liga/potpisi-i-kraj-degenek-stize-u-tsc/ Unless we use the remaining visa signing for CB, it will be as is for the rest of the season.

FootballRelic Posted January 28 Posted January 28 Who is responsible for scouting potential foreign signings at this club? Their recruitment as we all know for the most part over the last decade has been shambolic. Some of the big questions are 1. Have they actually started looking to fill all 5 slots for next year? And 2. Have the individuals making the decisions actually got the know how to bring in the players with the skill set required to play in Stajcic's system? That's assuming that he will still be here next year. LetsPele 1

CB sighing would definitely be with next season in mind because Jeong is only on loan nor has he done enough to have an extension. Questions do need to be raised on all of our foreign imports. None have really had the impact that is required. Antonsson is a fail from last season, Kraev and Mata have been played out of position and Jeong has been injured for half the season. A big reason we are struggling is the lack of impact from our foreign imports its not enough to drag this team into finals. FootballRelic and StringerBellend 2

Well if that's the plan then we are in for another long disappointing season again in yr25-26. Isn't this what they did with the Women's squad this year? Hasn't that turned into an absolute Shite show. Someone more in the know with the women's team correct me if I'm wrong. StringerBellend and LetsPele 2
immortalshogun Posted January 28 Posted January 28 relying on youth when we’ve got a proven track record of not cashing in on them or just letting them go to rival clubs is definitely an approach to take… not one that i would take personally lol Bulls are set to make at least $1m in this window alone with Piol leaving, Jones going for about 400k and Drew being eyed out by European teams. ESFC made bank on their kid that just left to Pompey… we let Younis go on loan and will probably get a lowball fee for him lol
FootballRelic Posted January 28 Posted January 28 Relying on local players and our youth players is fine as long as they are at the level required to compete. But you still in my opinion require quality imports to balance the starting line-up properly if you seriously want to challenge for the Premiership or Championship.
mack Posted January 28 Author Posted January 28 Our current crop of younger players have done next to nothing worthwhile in the A-League, and the players from last year's NPL team were the same guys who lost 12 and drew 1 from the second half of the NPL season. I'm not sure why the club suddenly thinks these same players will turn into a top 4, or even a top 6 side. If they ditch all the foreign & older players off contract and "replacing them with locals and youths" our squad will be even worse than it is now. LetsPele, marron and GunnerWanderer 3
StringerBellend Posted January 28 Posted January 28 Even the mariners who are held up as the model for this had decent foreign players and a few experienced A League players
mack Posted January 28 Author Posted January 28 11 minutes ago, StringerBellend said: Even the mariners who are held up as the model for this had decent foreign players and a few experienced A League players Mariners being some special youth team is hype and lies designed to create a mythology about the poor club (who had the same type of millionaire owners the rest of the clubs do) who had to create dozens of youth players with their amazing junior setup (by stealing youth prospects from other teams or NPL teams). In their 6-1 grand final win the only actual young player was Triantis to start, and Farrell & Steele off the bench, and they came on after the game was dead. Their win vs Victory their youngest starting player was 22. In most football countries you aren't a "youth prospect" or a "young player" at age 24. LetsPele and MathyouWSW 2
Unlimited Posted January 28 Posted January 28 I just played a game of FIFA 25 WSW v ESFC Jeong got beat for pace in the 2nd minute but Kucharski couldn't score Rhyan Grant got a red card in the 8th minute for taking down Milanovic when clean through on goal Got a penalty in the 10th minute for handball - scored Import striker (Antonsson replacement, https://sofifa.com/player/221293/guillermo-martinez/250002?hl=en-US) scored in the 28th and 40th Jeong then conceded a penalty before half time, which unfortunately ESFC scored Sapsford scored in the early second half Won penalties in the 81st, 82nd, and 83rd minute of the game for handball - eventually scored from the fourth penalty in the 84th Lolley scored a fluke outside the box beating Thomas in stoppage time I won 5-2 Anyway, Jeong got a good match rating because he won a lot of headers and tackles - even though he got skinned in the 2nd minute and conceded the penalty. He is an integral part of the team! SBW, MathyouWSW and LetsPele 3
