There are too many CBs overseas playing regularly, even Hayden Mathews is yet another one that is leaving A-league for Portsmouth this window. Triantis and Jack Irdedale at Hibs. So for Socceroos even if its Serbian league it increases his chances playing Socceroos because he is playing regularly. Thats not true, Spiranovic came back to Australia and played with us at the peak of his career, played for the Socceroos in the world cup and also won the Asian Cup with them 2015 GunnerWanderer, StringerBellend, Upthehill and 1 other 4

This generation all we have is CBs and a lot of them are knocking on the door playing in Asia or Europe. Degenek's Socceroos career looked over until Popa recalled him because he tried out Deng and wasn't confident enough and Circati got injured. Now Souttar is injured there is a spot open in the national team. He really needs to weigh whether A-league is the right move for him now, because it will be at risk with the rise of younger CBs all playing through the year.

GunnerWanderer Posted January 21 Posted January 21 If Al-Tayy can play the defensive midfielder and we don't get CB - Brillante can make the switch much prefer him there. Well at least gives us options we badly need a CB/Mid - at least we did get a LB.

WESTSYDFAN Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Strap in guys, we might be in for another rebuild… According to Transfermarkt, these are the players off-contract at seasons end: Marcus Antonsson Juan Mata Jeong Tae-wook Josh Brillante Lawrence Thomas Gabriel Cleur Jack Clisby Dylan Scicluna Zac Sapsford Dean Pelekanos Jordan Holmes Anthony Pantazopoulos James Temelkovski Taiga Harper Tristan Vidackovic Also, Alen Stajcic’s future at the club beyond this season is unclear. 😳😳😳
StringerBellend Posted January 21 Posted January 21 (edited) There is only three in there that I'd really miss Scicluna Thomas sapsford - Maybe add Cleur, Panta and Brillante I'd rather keep Mata was only ever going to be one season The rest range from meh? To thank god for that Stajic future at the club should be uncertain, he's only managed two wins in front of his home crowd all year and 8th position as discussed endlessly that's not even close to expectations Unless you are as easily pleased as Unlimited at the works Christmas party Edited January 21 by StringerBellend Carns 1

My selfish list I would add Temelkosvki. I know injury stopped him comming into the team early season but I believe he gives us a lot more than Antonsson. Tight budget I think he is the perfect player to add to the team. Realistic. I think Brillante stays because of his experience. But honestly I think Priestmann already does what Brillante gives us just bring in a player that complements what they do and you can release Brillante.
Sithslayer1991 Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Oh can I add Younis? It was loan move correct? Is he getting permanent move at PSV? is he returning? What is the update?

If no CB comes in, you have either Pelekanos or Brillante who can slot back there in a pinch GunnerWanderer 1

It's clear majority of the squad isn't good enough to keep, especially with a number of them on multi year deals so a complete overhaul on a salary cap + tight budget with lederer stepping down means you have to manage what's in front of you. Staj manages to get this weak team to 8th so far with a few unlucky results and strong performances against top 6 sides away. He can get his tactics wrong at times but again as stated, it's a weak squad so flexibility in tactics is going to be minimal. If you dont like the guy thats fine, but you can't ignore what he's had to manage walking in and fixing the mess left by the previous coach. Have we forgotten the way we limped into the last few games last season already, that team was an absolute mess in the end. Edinburgh and BoyFromTheWest 2

Games have been frustratingly entertaining, but this is not a bad team. When we click is sexual. Few new signings to hopefully sure up the back line which will help the front and middle aswell. We are not shouting stigmas and blaming the establishment, very different vibe to last year's **** Edinburgh and BoyFromTheWest 2

mack Posted January 21 Author Posted January 21 47 minutes ago, Del12 said: strong performances against top 6 sides away The teams only 4 away games to the current top 6. 2 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss. And the only game that was a truly "strong" performance was the City game. The win in Adelaide the team played like garbage for the first half and were lucky to get away with a win, which is something that happens in less than 5% of matches when a team goes down by 2 (and then lost 4-3 at home, making our two games vs AU worthless in terms of ladder position). After that it's a 4-2 loss to the Smurfs and a draw to WU. StringerBellend 1

Have we forgotten the way we limped into the last few games last season already, that team was an absolute mess in the end. Ok my logic - yep he's come into a mess I don't ignore that - I for all my negativity hope he can fix it - I remember us limping into the end of last season 7th (we are 8th now) - On the squad list my wording was players I wouldn't miss or make a huge effort to keep but there are a couple in there that I think are decent,.I just wouldn't care if kept them for next year e.g. Antonessen he's a decent player and doing well this year but he's probably on decent $ and a import spot so if he goes he goes - I think the squad is at least top 6 quality although it is unbalanced - I don't think the manager is getting the best out of the squad, the mariners and bulls at home are case in point. So far we are conceding at 2 goals a game he conceded 69 last year with Perth We have won twice at home, @andypk says it all better than me above. We have managed one 90min full game otherwise its patches
