Sithslayer1991 Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Jeong (ankle stress fracture 4-6 weeks) should be back by mid Jan and Panta (MCL 6-8 weeks) should be back late Jan at the earliest or early Feb at the latest. It was never disclosed what Simmons had as an injury all I remember is that could be March when he returns. And Cluer its a hamstring hasn't been graded but lets assume it was pulled hamstring and its another 6-8 week injury. Edinburgh and Paul01 2

SBW Posted January 7 Posted January 7 From this list, only Milos Degenek and Brad Smith would be worth signing
Sithslayer1991 Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Brad Smith 100% is a damn good player for us. But we only know Degenek was given an offer by the club MathyouWSW and TwoLeftFoots 2

bombagol Posted January 7 Posted January 7 There has been quite a bit of Clisby hate around, some of which was fair, but I’m curious to hear from all you armchair experts to tell us which current A-League left back has impressed you? Who would you rather have than our very own Ginger Maldini?

I struggle to think who the other left backs are. bombagol 1

After some research/thought Brisbane- no Jets - Wilmering - no Glory - no Phoenix-? - probably no Victory- Bos - yes CCM - ? - probably no City - ? Auckland- whoever he is - yes? SFC - Courtney-Perkins? - yes Adelaide- ? - no? Bulls - Vujica? - yes/no/Maybe? EmMac 1
BoyFromTheWest Posted January 7 Posted January 7 I was thinking about left backs whilst watching Jets-Roar, and especially Wilmering. I thought that left back must a position where there are few decent players because Wilmering (God love him) is at best NPL level but starting?! Upthehill and StringerBellend 2

But a massive k**b jockey I want Lucas Mauragis. He hasnt had the best year at CCM but he was respectable in a very bad Jets squad, and quite reliable for Nix. He's 23 with about 80 Aleague games under his belt, and can do a lot more growing. We would have been better these last 2 seasons had we kept Traore. I think we would still be belly aching about his defending but he was shades better than Clisby has been. And we would still be looking for a new LB in Jan this year or at worst end of the season. Leftback just sucks to recruit to be honest. We've had a hatful of **** ones and still been better off than most clubs. Even Raul Llorente, who everyone forgets had an excellent first season grabbing 2 player of the month awards, was horrifically bad in the second season. Elrich, jamo and Da'Puzzo all had their ups and downs but get pass marks, and Shannon cole gets a big ACL shaped golden star. But the rest? Meh Edinburgh and bombagol 2
mack Posted January 7 Author Posted January 7 Left back is the weakest position in global football. Any left footed player who is very quick becomes a left winger. Any left footed player who is tall becomes a left sided central defender. Any left footed player who is technical without being too quick or too tall becomes a midfielder. So you're left with stamina players who can't attack falling back into a defensive role, converted central defenders who didn't get a growth spurt as a teenager & washup failed attackers who move to fullback because they wouldn't get any playing time otherwise. It's up to the manager to recognise the lack of ability and work with it. Adam D'Apuzzo scored 2 goals in 206 league games and those came as a youth player at Marconi. Popa never asked him to score though, and rarely asked him to attack significantly high up the park. And he got the job done. SBW, bombagol, StringerBellend and 1 other 4
andypk Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Add Behich at City, Kitto at Adelaide and Mauragis at CCM to the list. StringerBellend, EmMac, Edinburgh and 1 other 4

And he got the job done. This is correct. I actually did some quick reading on this last year. I looked at 26 players in La Liga who started at LB, 14 entered senior football as a LW or inverted RW. Oddly, I could really only find information on circa 15 of the PL lefbacks. About half were LW/IRW mack and StringerBellend 2
