Potkorok Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Have to say all of the games so far have been absolute crackers. Perhaps with a modicum of marketing and allowing the use of memberships from any club for entry in future, this Unite thing might not be a complete disaster after all? Paul01 Posted January 13 Author Posted January 13 Bl**dy Smurfs, couldn't even draw at their home ground. They wrecked my tips this weekend. I had 3 of 3 till they f***ed it up! Potkorok, nmh94, BoyFromTheWest and 1 other 4

Saw lots of positive comments from Sokkah Twitter faithful that it was good to be able to meet fellow A-league fans for the first time and the general experience had been good. Was also comment that after the two years of contractual obligation in Sydney would be good to see it played elsewhere but also the issue of suitable ground availability was raised. How many cities actually have enough suitable football venues? Not many. Potkorok, nmh94 and BoyFromTheWest 3

Prior to last night's games there was a bit of consternation on Twitter about 4 'active' groups being at the same stadium at the same time. A bit OTT as it's not quite like West Ham, Millwall, Chelsea and Arsenal converging on Wembley simultaneously. Paul01, EmMac, BoyFromTheWest and 3 others 6

WHACKO Posted January 14 Posted January 14 (edited) Unite Round. It should have a name change to the (NRL's) Magic Round. Because they sure have made the crowds disappear. Edited January 14 by WHACKO Wanderboy, pseudonym, StringerBellend and 6 others 9
EmMac Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Eh, IDK, I kinda liked this round .... it helps that we won of course, but watched WU v Macarthur before our game, atmosphere a bit different from the usual... the lads put in a good shift, we sat right near the RBB for that authentic away bays experience ... whats not to like BoyFromTheWest, nmh94, Potkorok and 2 others 5
mack Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Absolute calamity keeping error for Roar to let the Jets back in front.

MartinTyler Posted January 14 Posted January 14 The Unite Round has been an interesting experiment but I feel that it was rushed and not a great deal of thought put into it. Early January in Sydney isn't really the right time and another thing that pissed me off was that most teams didn't play in their 1st strip. Carns 1
Sithslayer1991 Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Well first Unite round and considering how rushed this was, and it was announced long after memberships were provided I can see the value in unite round if the persist. I think the best thing is the additional round we all get of the A-league to make it 27 rounds. 2nd was basically cussing out the Smurfs, I could also see this being the case in Melbourne against the Victory. The multicultural theme they were going for was great but again no announcement and Food trucks. They need to build on the atmosphere both in and out of the stadium making it a whole event. Its promising but APL needs to learn from this quick setup and make it an entire event. Carns, BoyFromTheWest, EmMac and 2 others 5
Carns Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Part of the reason for it being in January was trying to take advantage of school holidays. But it's unrealistic that families will travel interstate for this. So you've either got to market the **** out of it to local families (including e.g. coasties etc) and make it cheap to attend, or target other groups such as young(er) people with disposable income and less commitments who can afford to travel for football. A large percentage of families with school age kids are away at this time of year anyway so it's shortsighted. StringerBellend 1
Sithslayer1991 Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Another thing was the live sites only showing cricket on Saturday night and not the Socceroos game. Or at Commbank where they only sold Wanderers stuff but not merchandise of other clubs that were present. Just like little stuff like that. But its probably more a reflection of how ad-hoc this all was. I optimistic in seeing an improvement next year. But it was fun seeing everyone chant against the Smurfs. So it has potential StringerBellend, nmh94 and BoyFromTheWest 3
