I was nervous about getting out of the group tbh. All or nothing now.

Although I didn't realise it's the top 8 out of 12 go through.

Still. Can't afford another poor performance.

Goal difference could be at play here.

TG getting exposed. Germans knew we would struggle against deep defence and transition.

If it wasn't for Gorry first half would have been worst. And its no coincidence we conceded 2 more after she left the pitch. Courtney Vine as a striker instead of Heymann. Try and figure that one out.

Comming 3rd in this group guarantees either Spain or France in the knockout. Bye bye medal chance. Not confident they can beat the US to get 2nd.

Winning that game will not mask that shower of **** performance

No it won't sums up TG to a tee. Defensively we have always been frail but the mentality and ability of the girls are able to find a way. But TG has never solved our defensive woes.

Emma Hayes US team will rip TG a new one. the Canada point deduction has made it interesting for 3rd place as Canada beat France. So we might not even make it in 3rd place unless the girls get a draw at a minimum.

Defensively our stocks are bare. Polkinghorne is past her best but she still get's picked and sees little game time. We seem to struggle against teams who ad lib a bit more rather than having structure. A few players underperforming out there. Saving grace might be the US resting key players as they look to have top spot locked up. Even if we do finish 3rd and qualify, the KO game won't be easy.

Matildas out. Hardly surprising really - occasional brilliant individual performances, hype and self-belief been keeping them afloat pretty much since TG took over. He needs to go ASAP. Who takes over?

The main problem for us now is that the rest of the world has started taking Women's Football seriously, and now Europe is going past us.

Aussie Arnie style DNA won't cut it.

Can't say I am surprised TG's limitations have again been shown. As everyone said the rest of the world is getting a big jump start and I think the period for the girls to win something or make a final at Olympics or World cup has come and gone.

We definitely need a new coach, its been clear since that upset against Korea for the Asia cup prior to the world cup. The selectors and TG continue to use the same faces which limits depth, so the new coach will need to be able to regenerate the squad and build depth.

The big plus Sam Kerr comes back from injury, Tillies have missed her presence. She almost got like a David Alaba presence with the Tillies.

Thank goodness TG will be gone after this.

His tactical ineptitude was once again on display. I fear in the next 5 years the Matildas are going to get left behind when other countries have no put far more emphasis on their women's football and are reaping the rewards for it

Can't concede 10 goals in three games and expect to go through. Other than Zambia nobody else conceded more than 6.

We've gone as far as we can go under Gustavsson.

Yeah the home World Cup always looked like being our swansong as teams from all other continents are finally getting their acts together. Our younger age group teams haven't been pulling up any trees either.

These last 5 years have felt similar to what Roberto Martinez did with Belgium. The girls had Ante Milicic and TG in that time and didn't win anything, not even the Asian cup. Feels like a generation was wasted.

At least when Staj was around we got to an Asian cup finals and beat the US in those friendly tournaments. Seemed like the peak for the girls but haven't really hit those heights since aside from 4th place at the world cup.

2 former WSW players scoring in this mornings game.

An achievement we should be proud of :xbop:

Victoria just seem to hate football, don't they?

This is probably like the I dunno... sixth consecutive tournament they've just not seemed to care about in terms of trying to get major Socceroos/Matildas matches there
