Auckland FC

Auckland will enter the league in the 2024/25 season, and the Women's league in 2025/26. Bill Foley, who owns AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League, has a significant investment in FC Lorient of France’s Ligue 1 and owns NHL side the Vegas Golden Knights, has been confirmed as the Auckland team's owner

Property developer/former rugby union player Ali Williams is also heading a bid, supposedly his groups plans are to play at Mt Smart Stadium for a few years then move to a new stadium in a vacant dockyard space in Auckland Habour.

edit - Apparently that bid is not the preferred bidder and may not still be in play. They could join forces with the other bid though.

They can do much better than Mt Smart stadium

Can they? The only other option is North Harbour Stadium.

I forgot about Eden Park. Isn't it more typically used for Cricket though?

In Summer yeah. Winter the Auckland Super Rugby team play out of it. But it's probably too big anyway even the minimum config is over 40k. Maybe they play a NZ Derby there?

Waikato Stadium in South Auckland, it's a smaller but much better stadium

Auckland's decent stadiums, of which there are only a few, are not in football areas.

It's going to be a huge issue for them, guaranteed.

Another Western United situation coming up, just what the league needs

Or Eden Park.

North Harbor Stadium is a bit of a white elephant, they could get that cheap.

I haven't felt that good since  Scott Gemmill played for the football kingz or NZ Knights as they were

The new Auckland A-Leagues club could be part of a multi-club ownership strategy driven by an American billionaire who is chair of AFC Bournemouth in the English Premier League and a significant player in the local wine industry.

Bill Foley, 79, is understood to be exploring adding a football club to his existing business interests in New Zealand. He has become Australian Professional Leagues' preferred bidder for the expansion rights within the past fortnight, according to two sources with knowledge of the situation.

There are changes coming to Auckland FC. Looks like Bill Foley has fallen in love with sports teams :) The article says that Foley entered the sports world as founder and majority owner of the Las Vegas Golden Knights. He enjoyed it so much that he decided to expand his interests.

If you wanna say a great kiwi flick not many people know about look for Stickmen

low budget great laughs…

back to Auckland I can’t believe they found dumb enough to stump up 25 million or did he get discount.
anyway good for Wellington to have derby at least it will create more interest in NZ football and give young kiwis more opportunities.
