Considering how the club treats our women's team, I doubt Clare was tied down to a fixed contract

No disrespect intended for our women's team but I can't see them being this season, the 1st derby is probably going to be a bloodshed for them

As is tradition :sorry2:

I was hoping with momentum the girls had at the back end of last season and the women's world cup we would have recruited a little more strongly and justify the membership costs.

From what I saw there was genuine uptake when the girls started to win last season and a small increase in the crowds. But yea its like the penny hasn't dropped on the owners with City and Smurfs are still ahead in the W-league with their strategy. Victory and Western as well took the girls side seriously. Western kind of embarrassed us really because they recruited from VIC NPL and pretty much romped the league.

It's been girls against women the derbies. We still continue to bring kids into the team then let them go to rivals, when they mature.

I can't imagine the club will make much if any money out  of their decision to exclude women's games from memberships. Certainly not enough to make any meaningful difference to the team, or enough to justify pissing members off.

Claire Hunt the club Captain is off to PSG.

Hunt farewelled the Wanderers in a statement, thanking the club for the last two seasons.

“I had the best two years of football experience at the Western Sydney Wanderers and want to thank the club for providing me an opportunity two years,” said Hunt.

“I have loved every minute at the club and thank every single player, coaching and back-room staff for their support and involvement in my development.

“It has been an honour to represent Western Sydney and the opportunity to move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs, Paris Saint-Germain, is one that I couldn’t resist.

“I will always fondly remember my time at the Red & Black and wish the club every success moving forward. I am eager to see the progression of the club, and specifically the women’s programs, over the coming years.”

Womens NPL final was on last night. There were players from the Wanderers AL Womens squad in both teams, mostly on winning team Macarthur Rams.

Sheridan Gallagher, who was in our Women's squad last season (and had previously captained the Young Matildas), had switched codes to the NRLW.

A move which looks to have paid off and landed her with success - her Newcastle Knights have made it to the NRLW Grand Final, AND she's been
nominated for "Winger of the Year" for the 2023 NRLW Dally M Awards!!

But Gallagher fell out of love with the game, and asked her manager to tee up something in rugby league.

Did she leave the club and the game during the JT and Costello era or after it?

End of last season after getting less and less game time

Saw the story I think its normal the code switching, because if you aren't Courtney Vine in ALW or at least Matilda level its hard for the average player to play football. Its hard to get the move overseas unless your Matildas or fringe Matilda level. So the lower tier will 100% look to see if another code is better for them I believe an ex Victory player made the switch to AFLW recently even though she has never played the sport because they give her more money, but also because she isn't good enough to make a move overseas or go higher in football with the limited leagues with adequate support.

Is what it is, until people start attending matches to force more support and investment. We will see post world cup what the effect has been.

I just got my WSW women’s membership (because I’m an idiot), and wished I could buy a men’s A-League women’s jersey with intermain on it.

as for our poor squad, maybe we should become more Croatian like the rest of WSW.

p.s. I’m an idiot because I keep giving this pathetic club money, but I wanted to show the girls some support

At the age of 21 people don't fall out of love with the game. There probably was some other reason for it. Especially if she was captain. There was probably some kind of internal conflict.

WSW were probably paying her $50 a week with no new contract available until the 6 month off-season was done. That isn't going to help the love of the game.

It's a shame I think with another year or two development she'd definitely be in the frame for the next world cup/asian cup cycle, offering a physical, rough & ready target player that is generally missing from the women's game.

Wanderers getting rid of their current Coach (Kat Smith), and announcing a new Head Coach (Robbie Hooker) 10 DAYS OUT FROM THE START OF THE SEASON.

What recent coaching has he done, you may ask?

From an article this year (2023) - "Mount Colah Football Club where he coached the under-12 team (including his two sons) to win the statewide Champion of Champions competition last year."

Definitely worth the club charging extra money for women's A-league memberships and a great way to capitalise on the success of the WWC!

The Wanderers have confirmed the departure of Liberty A-League head coach Kat Smith effective immediately.

That's it for Smith and the rest is about the new manager. No thanks for her time here or well wishes for her future.

There's something seriously wrong with the club at the moment.

Something is definitely wrong, we'd thought things would change post JT and Costello days, there were very promising signs last season but it seems the club have gone back to the bad old ways.

If I'd have known I would have applied I coached both U9s and U12s last year so my CV is twice as good

pfft

I won the Champions League on FIFA 3-times in a row with Harrogate Town after taking them from League Two to the EPL and signing Messi and developing a 96-rated Brazilian RB from our youth academy

I should've lobbed an application in!
