Well, Arnie made it a game further in the WC than we thought he would and picked up a new contract.

Next up? The Asian Cup 2023, off to Qatar again at some point (probably in December?)

And after the Asian Cup, back to WC Qualification.

I really can't argue with it as it pains me to say. the play off victories against UAE and Peru to the world cup run and the transition to the new generation most were used in the Tokyo Olympic squad that beat Argentina, means he has an eye for his squad on the next 4 years. Plus Kisnorbo and Muscat would be focusing on club careers and Popa regressed, would be too risky to bring in a foreign coach that isn't use to the heavy travel. So we put up with Arnold for another 4 years.

Still no confirmation on when the Asian cup begins as Qatar participates in the Gold cup coming up held in June-July 2023. All assuming it will be 2024.

Souttar supposedly signed with Leicester City for £15M which would make him the most expensive Australian transfer ever. Noice.

Pretty cool.

Having said that I think i remember reading a few years back that Dukes fee when he went  from Celtic (or Boro? Can't remember) was about 50 mill in today's money.

I like the opening shot where he stands and you can only see up to his knees. I'm assuming that's how tall he is compared to the cameraman.

I will go against the grain and say that I am ecstatic that Arnold has agreed to continue as the Socceroos coach. We need to be focussed on the long term picture, you never get this with foreign coaches. Of the local candidates, Arnold's is head and shoulders above the rest in my mind at nurturing young talent. His success at Olyroos level is second to none, and his astonishingly good management at the world cup with a fraction of the talent that Guus had at his disposal says a lot. I am excited to see where he takes us from here.

Of the other local options, Ange needs higher quality players than what we have to meet his gameplan. I am not convinced that Popovic's defensive approach would bring us success against world class attack. Muscat has done well taking charge of already successful teams, I'd like to see him build a successful team from scratch (as the three above mentioned have) before giving him a go at national level.

Arnie earned a new contract with his performance at the World Cup and deserves another shot. But I also remember the dire football that he played in the qualifiers and people were rightly calling for him to be sacked. He deserves to be under the microscope over his tactics in this coming Asian Cup and qualifying campaign. Top 4 should be the minimum expectation for Asian Cup in my eyes, but it won't be easy.

Leicester are "Premier League Heavyweights" according to C7

If we're talking Premier League era then only Arsenal, Chelsea and the two Manchester Clubs have won more Premier League titles than Leicester. They're equal with Liverpool.

By that reasoning you could also say that Blackburn are Premier league heavyweights :xnod:

Former EPL heavyweights. Which they were for a short time in the early to mid 90's there

More the youth team than the men's but four WSW players have been selected for the U20s Asian Cup in Uzbekistan March 1-18.

Badolato, Lopane, Simmons and Warshawsky.

Lost 1-0 to Vietnam. Watched the game and while Vietnam was good our team looked like 11 individuals thrown on the park. No cohesion whatsoever making it difficult for them to break down a well organised defence. With hopeful balls put in the 18 yard box that the Vietnamese keeper will be thankful for with the catching practice he was provided.

Also Ecuador confirmed for the March friendlies for the Socceroos

Nieuwenhof called up for the U23's. Will be in camp from 20-28 March. We play the derby on the 18th and then Adelaide on the 31st.

That's a decent squad.... but damn we lose him for the derby. We got cover but sucks sometimes how this works

Will we lose him? The camp doesn't start for a couple of days after the derby.

He could play the Derby, catch a Taxi to the Airport. Last flight to Doha leaves at 10.00pm on the 18th with an overnight layover. Or a 3.50pm flight on the 19th March.

When have the Socceroos all arrived on time to a camp anyway?

The Group A games kick off in a little over an hour. If there aren't any upsets we're probably playing the hosts Uzbekistan in the quarter final.
