And to the mundane topic of A-League referees from the Terrorgraph

Referees want Stephen Lucas returned to A-League panel

Australia’s top football referees are still on strike, with the start of the new A-League season less than three weeks away.

The Professional Football Referees Association of Australia wants Stephen Lucas reinstated to the A-League panel before ceasing strike action that threatens to derail the season.

PFRA members remain on strike less than three weeks before the start of the 2021-22 A-League season.

During the strike, A-League trials and FFA Cup matches have been officiated by non-PFRA members and NPL referees.

PFRA members went on strike last month in protest against a number of issues. They included the A-League leadership and coaching department not having their contracts renewed when the league separated from Football Australia in July.

The absence of that department has led to match officials having no direction, coaching, instruction, and fitness coaching for more than three months.

The PFRA was also unhappy about the removal of Lucas from this season’s A-League panel and Matthew Cream from Australia’s FIFA list “without any due process or warning”.

However, a contract standoff over improved employment terms and pay for match officials seems to have been resolved

Interviews have also taken place for the head of referees’ position, with the successful candidate expected to have input in the appointment of the referees’ coaching staff.

However, FA is preparing for resistance from the PFRA about the decisions on Cream and Lucas.

While the battle to have Cream reinstated to the FIFA list could prove too much for the PFRA if FIFA has already filled the spot, Lucas’ dumping from the A-League panel is unlikely to be tolerated by the referees’ union.

Lucas has refereed 54 A-League matches dating back to 2014.

PFRA of Australia president Paul Cetrangolo said reasons for Lucas’ axing had not been provided by FA.

“Stephen wasn’t performance managed last season,” Cetrangolo said.

“This is an issue that remains outstanding.”

PFRA members will meet on Wednesday night to further discuss contract matters and the situations of Cream and Lucas.

Ah Stephen Lucas, the guy who constantly loses control of games and completely forgot how the VAR worked in a game between Adelaide & Macarthur back in April.

I would have to agree on Lucas. Their point is that he was not properly coached which may be a consequence of the pandemic.

However, there is always a standard which each referee must meet both on knowledge of the LOTG, fitness (beep tests come to mind) and on-field performance including player management.

My estimation of the A-League referees comes on the basis of a listening to one a few years ago give an answer on why there were not as many red cards issued. His answer that Foxsports didn't like send-offs unless there were absolutely necessary. He said "It is our job to keep players on the field." And his first initial is....K! :nono:

I can only hope that in the APL era this type of refereeing will stop that there is one standard from local association to professional football.

Newcastle Jets just beat Macarthur Bulls 6-3 lol

I love how Newcastle Jets twitter account posted about the match with results. Meanwhile, the Macarthur FC twitter page posted about the first half...nothing about the second half and full time result. LOL

Goals from Newcastle Jets were Beka Mikeltadze and Samuel Silvera in the first half. Savvas Siatravanis, Daniel Penha, Valentino Yuel and Kosta Petratos in the second half. I don't know about who scored Macarthur's goals.

Unfortunately they actually did, but because Macarthur tagged Newcastle Jets at the start of the tweet it got put in the "tweets and replies" section of their account so it doesn't come up as much on others feeds, gets less engagement.

Maybe they did it on purpose, not too sure. It's pretty embarrassing either way. The engagement on their account is so so bad.

So Mariners win 3-0.

No idea of the Smurfs line-up

I know Ninkovic was playing, although think its only his 2nd pre-season game.

Edit: Rhyan Grant and Retre were in there as well. Obviously only pre-season but an interesting scoreline considering the Mariner lineup and the few known Sydney players involved.

Goddard was not in the starting line-up for the Mariners

Smurfs said it was 2 goals on the counter. Slowing defence for the Smurfs maybe.

I've said it before and I will say it again, I honestly believe Sydney's demise is coming soon.

Their two most important players, Wilko and Ninko are on the verge of retiring. Add Bobo, Le Fondre, Barbarouses, Brattan, Redders and even Grant getting older and closer to retirement they might be in trouble soon.

Plus, they barely give youth any minutes, maybe 10 minutes off the bench here and there. I don't see many coming through with that A-League experience in their youth ranks like we have in Russel, Baccus, Aquilina, Natta, Tass etc.

Plus, I suspect Corica simply cannot replace some of their important players, I personally think he is incapable of doing so. Arnie's succession plan may well soon come to an end.

Just my thoughts, likely to be wrong, may be right, who knows, guess we will see.

Meanwhile we haven't made the six since 2017.

ESFC won that year, they then made the semi-finals in 2018, won in 2019, won again in 2020, and lost the final in 2021.

Clearly, their approach is the better one.

Of course, I never once said it wasn't?

All i'm predicting is a demise at playing level, thats all.

In no way, shape or form am I saying we have been better than them because we haven't, and its not good enough.
