Moderately shocking scheduling to be fair I'd hazard they don't want either set of fans travelling given some of the issues of the past. Seems very silly if they are truly trying to reinvigorate active support, but that would probably be why. There's some weird stuff going on with some of the final round games. City is listed as Rd 26 but is being played mid-week in December. I assume when they shifted the season back a few weeks they already had the schedule done and instead of redoing the whole thing (which is a pain ass and they probably had ground bookings already), they just shifted a few later games. It's not terrible. We've got a good mix of Friday, Sat and Sun games. There's a few "family friendly" times and away games against the Nix, CCM, Jets and Brisbane are all decent times and dates. I know it's controversial, but I like the Boxing Day and NY games. StringerBellend, BoyFromTheWest, THEWANDERERSPOST and 1 other 4

Perth has one in Round 25 where they play it on a Tuesday in February. Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year are on weekends (or a long weekend) so it makes sense not to shift around matches too much. It's not until 2024 that they become middle of the week holidays again. Our Round 11 match is one I think might end up being played on Australia Day, which is on a Wednesday, with our next match on Saturday in Brisbane. Wouldn't be ideal but I can see it happening for a local derby. THEWANDERERSPOST 1
Edinburgh Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 I'll miss the Jets away on Boxing Day, the first NSW away I'll have missed since the start. Boxing Day is our family Xmas gathering. Might have gone to a later kick off but 5pm is too early. THEWANDERERSPOST and BoyFromTheWest 2
StringerBellend Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 New finals series format makes sense, but that said doesn't it make it easier for the team finishing 6th to with the comp? Instead of winning 2 sudden death games to get a grand final you now have 2-leg game so you can lose away and win at home at go through? In the event of it being a draw over the two legs is it pens and extra time or does the higher placed team go through? I assume its pens.

To me it's a signal that should the A-League become a 14 team competition, they'll introduce the top eight finals system used by AFL and NRL. I get that two legged semi finals are more common in football, but how much more of an advantage do our top two teams need beyond having the week off plus hosting the semi final? Considering the geography of the A-League, having to get on a plane for a sudden death fixture does disrupt preparations a bit

mack Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 2 leg finals just devalue the regular season more, and will make them even more predictable by giving the higher ranked team another game to rectify any issues that caused them a surprise loss to the lower team. It does give the lower ranked team a home game though, and its no longer sudden death. You can now finish 6th, and win the grand final while losing a game in the semis mack 1
WHACKO Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 Why aren't all finals home and away then, why just one round. Makes no sense to me. If you finish below the top two teams why should you get a home final. Then why isn't the GF played over two games. sonar and StringerBellend 2

mack Posted October 30, 2021 Posted October 30, 2021 Win is a win but 3-2 is a bit dodgy, especially since our defence was the issue and set piece defence was a real big one.

Who knows how Davila scored, but sounded like the goal from the corner was a scramble in the box. We had a 16 year old in net, maybe that goal never happens with Mejias, or Davila's goal. Macarthur still had basically every single one of their best attackers players (apart from Juric who is supposedly gone). Definitely doesn't look great in comparison to say Sydney who beat them 5-0 but Macarthur has 8 first team players missing that game. Paul01 and StringerBellend 2

And there are 4 possibilities why we had our NPL goalkeeper play this game 1. Protect Margush from injury before the FFA Cup game 2. Margush is carrying an injury so protect aggravating the injury 3. Giving the NPL a chance to show what he capable of, perhaps trying to win a scholarship contract. 4. Margush is p***ed with signing of a visa GK. StringerBellend and THEWANDERERSPOST 2

Margush played in Mariners game which was after we signed the foreign keeper, so no reason he would suddenly be p*ssed and not play this game. Paul01 and StringerBellend 2
