Pretty sure all trains have been cancelled for today

I’m not annoyed, I understand why they’re doing it

Inconveniences me but in my view they are just fighting for a fair pay raise. If the government can fund moronic rebuilds of perfectly good infrastructure, then surely they can afford paying essential workers a more liveable wage

Last year they actually did do a wildcat strike.

But yeah, standard play from the gov, cos most people will just assume the union were being dicks.

Phil from Sydney Train Vlogs filmed a bit more of the chaos that's been happening on Sydney Trains, especially around Central Station:

Absolutely ridiculous seeing the amount of people trying to cram into a 4 carriage train. WTF is Sydney Trains thinking?!

Interesting, although not surprising to those of us who have been on the new Manly ferries..

https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/leaked-memo-warns-new-manly-ferries-risk-becoming-airborne-in-heavy-swells-20220404-p5aaom.html

My first feeling on sitting down at the front was how cheap it felt. The bars around the sides look like scaffolding poles with some welding about the same standard as my youth training scheme attempts.

There was a moderate swell the day we went, certainly nothing unusual, but enough for them to close the lower part of the front off. We reached the open heads area and if there are sets of waves rolling in the policy is to face in to them and then turn quickly sideways between sets so they then roll in from behind, so avoiding a hit on the side.

This we did and I would say we went airborne twice, we did that thing where your arse leaves the seat and you plonk back down lol Lady along from us ended up in a heap on the floor but not hurt, pride only lol  And this wasn’t what I would consider rough..

My feeling is they are expensive duds not fit purpose. They certainly won’t last as long as the previous ones.

Also having the Manly ferry double ended always seemed wise.

Also, you can tell a Fed election is coming when they roll out the old fast train promise between Newcastle and Sydney :D They did that a few weeks back.

This gave me a huge nostalgia

I went to primary around the 90's and my school used to hire a blue double decker bus exactly like these ones every Friday to take us to all the sporting events that the school used to compete in (field hockey, soccer, rugby league etc.)

Every one would always want to sit at the front upstairs on the bus to feel like they were 'driving' the bus.

It's good to see they are restored and used for special events.

Always wondered myself ... I was one of the sleepers on the trains...

Sydney commuter reveals what yellow numbers next to city’s train tracks mean

Sydney commuters have been left stunned after discovering the little-known meaning of yellow numbers found along the city’s rail network.

How did I not see this thread? Can't believe I did not see it!

A lot of nostalgia here, I remembered as a kid I use to live in Newtown, when my Grandma use to live in Belmore, my mother and I would catch the Red Rattler from Newtown, through the inner city stations and loop around Lidcombe through the Bankstown line towards Belmore, best moments as a kid.

I saw an article yesterday (and now I can't find it) but it was in regards to Sydney trains postponing on having the electric trains running down to the Southern Tablelands.

I thought it was already underway as they have were going to have some electric trains travel down to Menangle Park to make it easier for passengers to get to the racecourse?

Well as someone who lives in this region, it really sucks that there is a lack of train services running through the Southern Highlands, it also sucks that I have to get off at Campbelltown to catch the City Rail trains.

There has been so much talk about building a high speed rail corridor to Canberra that will run parallel to the Southern Highlands line but residents in the region have been hearing the same spin for the last 35 years or so. They talk about it, why haven't they done anything about it? It takes China 2 years to build a high speed rail system to connect their metropolis to regional cities. At the moment everything with our region in the Wollondilly and Wingecarribee Shire is all just wishful thinking.

ha used this line once about 5 or 6 years ago to visit mother in law in Mittagong, service to campbeltown then change service, crawling over old bridges, slow meandering bends, something nostalgic and pleasant about it, but my god it took forever, have not done it since, what with the roads upgraded outside Liverpool, M7 etc it's a no brainer to go by car for time efficiency.

I took the train to Canberra once, I think even the staff on the train think you are crazy for doing that.  Soooo slow.....

And then it dumps you at a middle of nowhere station, on the outskirts of a middle of nowhere city to be ask by a taxi driver just why did I take the train...

It was an odd combination of travellers lol
