Symmetry I assume. As what you are seeing in the photo is only one side of James Ruse Drive and I assume there will be a second arch over the other side? Therefore it would look OK with the centre post in the middle of JRD and two arches meeting there.

No 2nd arch is going in. That bridge is it. It's quite odd, but they are obviously planning for something in the future.

The only thing I can think of is better access off JRD to Grand Ave. The whole Camellia masterplan  (of thousand's of units from the river to the racecourse) has been put on hold due to the enormous costs to rehabilitate the severely contaminated land of the whole area. Maybe they think that one day this will happen and the redevelopment will eventually go ahead. Also, there was originally planned to be a Camellia stop on the new West Sydney Metro, but at this stage, that has also been canned, for the above reasons.

Would make more sense to have a stop over the river at UWS Rydalmere and put a pedestrian section to the tram bridge. Distance between UWS and Camellia would be a 2min walk.

Yes, the Metro via UWS/Rydalmere and back to Olympic Park was also an option, but it would have added a few mins to the trip to the city so I think that's why that option was canned.

The metro is trying to make the Parra/City trip as quick as possible. They are talking/hoping for it to be around 20 minutes. Which is pretty quick. I just hope their rolling stock will be capable of speeds of up to 120-130 km/h. It will need to be to achieve this time, taking into consideration of dwell times at stations.

Current NW Metro reaches 100 km/h between most stops.

It looks cold in parts of this vid..

Yeah, I have been up there on the train in conditions like that. Lowest down I have seen snow is Wenty Falls station when heading up once. But heard from old timers that in the olden days snow was seen at Lawson.

Yep, needs to be massive to get Lawson. That hill between Bullaburra and Wenty makes a big difference. I don't know for certain but I remember a massive dump in 88 or 89 that might have got down there, we lived in Wenty and it was thick. In my memory thicker than anything i've got since I moved to BH. But who knows.

The biggish one last month I think I caught the train to work in. It would have to be huge to knock them out.

Snowed a bit this morning for a light dusting of settled.

In truth you get colder days than snow days though. Snow days mean a thick cloud usually and not so windy, either.

New D set trains overview... going to run on the Central coast line first... have been ready for a while as I understand it but a dispute between the State Gov and the Rail Unions over the trains personal is still a long way from being settled... essentially the gov believe the trains with various cameras and based on overseas models do not need a guard to close the doors... the union believes all these trains should have a guard to close the doors...

They look good and carry a lot of people... only draw back as I see it is the sitting is fixed ... meaning half the train is not facing the direction the train is heading...

I have watched a good few of these go through on test runs since the start of the year so figured they must be just about ready.

Typical of the government and unions to delay of course. The guard battle has been running for a few years, and not just over these new trains.

In 50 years plus or so there will be more driverless and guardless trains. Transport automation is the future, for better or worse.

Yep it absolutely is, but I tell you what, a unmanned mountains train is not something I want to be on for a couple of reasons.

1) it can get a bit hairy at times passenger wise. Guards aren't just blowing a whistle for the train to go.... I've seen them sort out some aggro more than a few times. And these trains aren't running through the city where there's a station every few minutes and cops that can get there in 5. If some ice addict is trying to gouge my eyes out between faulco and linden I haven't got a hope haha.

2) i know these trains should not break down lilke the v-sets but all the same, again, you're in the middle of nowhere if that happens. At least when its manned you've got a mechanic on the spot.

Love the Endeavours.

I used to get them from Campbelltown to Picton. They are quiet inside, the seats are so comfy that I have to be careful I don't miss my stop to Picton cause I sometimes have a nap in them (unlike going from Picton to Campbelltown where the train terminates).

In 1978 I moved to Marayong... and spent 78 to 80 working in Parramatta... and 80 to 85 working in Sydney... the afternnon train from both Parramatta and TownHall were always the single deck red rattlers...

In 86 when this was made I was working in NZ ...

Enjoy for old time sake...

What fool made the decision to tear up the Tram network for cars and buses .....

My understanding was that the infrastructure was so dilapidated by that time that the cost of replacement was prohibitive. The Melbourne network was much newer.
