Edinburgh Posted September 8, 2019 Posted September 8, 2019 Maybe the AFC could start an Asian champions league and Australian clubs could participate and bring in the $s and interest and tap into the market that way .......... Let's see how Perth go in that next year and how serious Sage gets with investing in it! matty, Prydzopolis, alexd and 1 other 4
Erebus Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 Depends on how serious Popa takes it. Our last campaign he wasted it trying new formations and experimenting instead of taking it seriously. We got spanked every game because of whatever the fk he was doing. Prydzopolis and Edinburgh 2
Taurus Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 A truly Independent ALeague is still some way off, as the AL club's transistion team & FFA are still working through a number of issues. There appears to be no set date for when the handover is likely to occur Prydzopolis 1
Hughesy Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 So basically once the FFA work out how to obtain money they’ll hand it over. So by about 2059 then 😂

Perhaps some of the sticking point are around the salary cap and referee appointments. Salary cap not in term of amount but around the squads. There is talk that the A-league clubs want to run a reserve league so that the squaddies and those returning from injury get a run. It means all players get a game. There is also chatter that the u21 should become u23. As to referee appointments, now that Ben Wilson is gone the referees don't report to the FFA and a clear demarcation is required for accreditation.

mack Posted September 30, 2019 Author Posted September 30, 2019 7 visas and a youth focus would be perfectly in line with the A-League clubs desire to become profitable.

ItchyNek Posted January 29, 2020 Posted January 29, 2020 So no news on the independent front since October, which is disappointing but given the time of the year people need to spend more time with family and loved ones so ill give them that but i though by the end of Jan we would have more of an update. From what i have read they are just waiting on the paperwork to be competed as the FFA have finalized an agreement, how long this paperwork will take is another question. Hopefully before this season ends Prydzopolis 1

They took over too late for any big meaningful changes to be made but perhaps not the panacea many thought. I’m also looking forward to the new CEO taking over & making his mark on the Australian football landscape.
mack Posted January 29, 2020 Author Posted January 29, 2020 I believe the official independence date has been pushed back to match up with the next TV Rights deal, because of legal issues regarding splitting the various contracts. My guess is Foxtel threatened to dump the A-League entirely by refusing to transfer the rights to the Independent A-League company. Prydzopolis 1

When does this TV end? Was it a 4 year deal + 2? Edit: Started 17/18, ending 23/24? https://www.theroar.com.au/2016/12/20/the-a-leagues-new-broadcast-deal-by-the-numbers/
mack Posted January 30, 2020 Author Posted January 30, 2020 We're almost halfway through the 6 year deal, starting from July 2017. It expires at the end of the 2022/23 season.
mack Posted January 31, 2020 Author Posted January 31, 2020 AFL Europe, the exact type of experience you want for someone who is running the A-League TV rights. alexd and matty 2

Yes, AFL experience is not great but it’s the 6 years with a sports rights management company. Not like we are asking him to make big strategic or day to day running decisions in the organization. His job is to maximize our next tv deal.
ItchyNek Posted January 31, 2020 Posted January 31, 2020 Fox at it again and i wouldn't be surprised, they hold this league by its balls.. We really need a saving grace to get us away from this broadcaster!
ItchyNek Posted December 31, 2020 Posted December 31, 2020 Well looks like the silver lining with COVID was that it was our saving grace from Fox well at least for one more season, helped us sooner rather than later. https://www.miragenews.com/australian-professional-leagues-to-be-unbundled-from-football-australia/ First step in the right direction
mack Posted December 31, 2020 Author Posted December 31, 2020 Lederer and co finally get all the cash. Lets see if they do anything with it.
GunnerWanderer Posted December 31, 2020 Posted December 31, 2020 To the average pundit this doesn’t mean much with the games revenues draining it might not be such a bid deal let’s see where we are in 12 months if much has changed I’ll lean on the side of not much at all ItchyNek 1
Edinburgh Posted November 14, 2021 Posted November 14, 2021 The APL has launched it's new website (digital platform?) KEEP UP. There's already quite a few good articles there. Including Ante Covic on the final in Riyadh and Cath Canulli on being head coach. And a lot more. If you haven't already had a look, I recommend it: https://keepup.com.au/ Unlimited, pseudonym and EmMac 3
marron Posted November 14, 2021 Posted November 14, 2021 Bloody hell, I looked at it and found it hard to navigate, now Ed is telling me it's worth looking at, what's going on?? (Good to see Joe Gorman on there, always liked his stuff).
GunnerWanderer Posted November 14, 2021 Posted November 14, 2021 Sign up to keepup and apparently you get 30 days free of paramount I just saw whilst I was on the web site That’s pretty good especially if I can just keep using new emails every 30 days lol ItchyNek 1
