Former Western Sydney forward Mohamed Adam has left Greek outfit Xanthi FC and is on the hunt for a new European club.

Adam signed for Xanthi earlier this year after a spell with Sydney Olympic.

But the 21-year-old did play a single game for the second tier Greek club and has now departed.

FTBL understands the striker is keen to stay in Europe and is pursuing opportunities in Germany and Denmark.

Adam was born in Sudan but grew up in Sydney and came through the junior system at Marconi.

He joined the Wanderers in 2017 and helped the club win the Y-League in 2018.

Adam debuted for Western Sydney's first-team in 2019 and make 19 appearances before leaving the A-League side in December 2020.

Xanthi is owned by Australian businessman Bill Papas, who is being investigated for allegedly facilitating a bank fraud worth more than $300 million.

oof...no wonder why he wanted to leave...don't want to get involved with s*it like that.

Seems to be getting linked to a decent club in Germany, Schalke. To me he can have a decent career in the A League at least, if given a fair crack at it.

Didn't he leave to continue his studies very odd way of doing it

Correct.

When he left the Wanderers, a few weeks later it was announced he signed to Sydney Olympic FC and I believe he was studying at the same time.

And then mid season, him and Monge got signed to Xanthi FC.

So, I guess he changed his mind?

Yeah, I still think the club made a terrible move to let him go too early into his career.

If he never played a single minute with a Greek 2nd tier club it's more likely he'll be playing 2nd tier here again rather than at a fallen giant in Germany.

Agree,

I think it was clear he was surplus to requirements when CR took over......he wasn't going to get game time with Troisi,Ibini,Cox etc on the bench.

Papas owned Xanthi and was President of Olympic until July, so Papas likely signed him to Olympic with the idea that he might move to Xanthi. Papas' alleged fraud would rank him up there with Alan Bond and the HIH frauds Adler & Williams.

It looked like there was a player in there somewhere which makes the whole release to go study an odd thing.

I didn't noticed this but he posted on Instagram yesterday that he has been signed to J3 League club FC Imabari. Apparently, this happened back in January:

Mo wrote:  "To FC Imabari and Imabari fans thank you for the warm welcoming. I look forward to this season and hopefully we can achieve promotion"

All that was is the club not wanting to say "we sacked these players". Just a dumb attempt at PR guff. Better off just saying nothing beyond "these players have left the club we thank them for their hard work and wish them well in their future endeavours".

So true. Sotirio, Appiah and Hamill come into mind.
