Will be interesting to see how they go in the ACL.  Will Popa manage to do it again or was it a one off miracle last time?

He's had two more shots at it with WSW since the win, and didn't do too well.

Obviously he'll probably have a stronger squad this time around, but it's arguably more difficult to win now with an increase in prize money there is a greater incentive for other teams to play stronger squads.

I believe it unlikely that another Australian team will win it for a while.

I am reading some things about Perth wanting to get involved in an Asian super league or something.  Maybe if that is the case, the owners will be serious about establishing Glory's credentials in the region.

It was a one off miracle last time, no HAL team will do it again in my lifetime unless there is a total overhaul of the League including no salary cap and somehow a massive injection of funds.  Although it has been a slippery slide for WSW ever since that tournament the fact we won it was simply a miracle.  Player changeovers due to our season timing, massive gap in class of players as is noticeable even more now we have actually lost one qualifying spot as well this year, gone down to 1+2 qualifiers instead of 2+1, throw in the travel and playing around our finals time as well three days after a grand final loss, we got through the group ok enough but from there it was just miracle time, a pen that was a touch dodgy at Sanfrecce away (1-3) that ended up being super important when we get a last minute 2nd goal to go through on away goals, Guangzhou dominated us but lost their **** at our ground meaning they were missing important players in the return leg, and then against Al Hilal in the final over 2 legs we felt what it was like to by Sydney FC with every decision and bit of luck going our way.  Will not happen again in my lifetime.

His (our) last effort basically urinated our reputation in Asia away

Watching the likes of Borda and Hammil get snotted wasn’t much fun

Leave Bruno alone, wished we had him.

No I won't. Typical South American striker who should get plenty of yellow cards for simulation.;)

Popa's locked in his Asian +1 early

Historically Popa has been by far the A-League manager most willing to sign Asian players hasn't he.  How does his record stand?  I guess we can all think of one outstanding success and one disappointment.  I don't recall much about the others to be honest.

Ono was great, Tanaka and Takahagi were decent and Jumpei not so much.

Does anyone know the actual story behind this?

This is the one aspect of Popa’s coaching that I hated, what could have happened in such a short time that would have led this to happen?

I read somewhere that he went to a wedding in Ireland and didn't come back for pre-season training at the same time as the other players. That could be it.

I thought he was best man at his brothers wedding and he had leave to attend.

Maybe he's not happy with Fornaroli being there AND made it known.

Signed korean Soo-Beon Kim for 1 year. https://www.perthglory.com.au/news/glory-swoop-versatile-korean

Seems to be playing more as a midfielder than an actual defender: https://www.transfermarkt.com/su-beom-kim/profil/spieler/180587

I'm just going to assume he's added majority for their ACL campaign?

"Kim, who can play on either side of defence or as a wide midfielder, said he was excited to play overseas for the first time."

https://www.ftbl.com.au/news/kim-in-as-keoghs-future-uncertain-528844

Popa is getting the ship ready for the ACL.

As far as Keogh is concerned: there is something disturbing about Popa's ruthlessness. If Keogh digs in Glory will have a massive problem at hand.

Reading that tells me that Popa wants to stick to their 5-2-3 formation.

Let's see whether he gets on a plane to Saudi, or some other destination.

Somehow I think this story has more to run & I wouldn't be surprised if he stayed in Oz
