Flytox Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 From the SMH. Phoenix to pay $1 million to FFA after missing off-field goals Football Federation Australia has sent an invoice for $1 million to Wellington Phoenix after the club failed to clear contractual "performance hurdles" this season. 2 hours ago by Vince Rugari Prydzopolis and Paul01 2
Davo Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 Quote Despite improving their home attendances by nearly 50 per cent and a significant upturn in their TV ratings on Sky Sport in New Zealand, the Phoenix still fell some way short of satisfying the contractual demands of their temporary A-League licence. It is understood the size of the penalty increases for each year of the agreement. If anything they've exceeded expectations and improved more that most other clubs. Looks like the FFA set them impossible targets to slowly send them broke. wendybr, Burgerman, Prydzopolis and 1 other 4
mack Posted May 29, 2019 Author Posted May 29, 2019 They could have handed in the license and the Canberra, Wollongong or South-East Melbourne bids would have also joined the A-League this coming or next season. The owners knew what they were getting themselves into when they signed the contract. Their improvement to 8,533 average looks good on percentages, but it includes a 20k crowd outside their home city and it was coming off the worst average attendance of all the clubs last year at 5,694. papersun Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 Things seem to getting desperate at Phoenix, signing crocked footballers now. https://www.a-league.com.au/news/signing-news-wellington-phoenix-snap-australia-international-defender
Carns Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 Massive news if it happens. Doubt he'd play for the first team (ever), but still an interesting development. JackDoff 1
LeeMarvin Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 That is pretty massive for Oceania football. Is Singh a Fiji lad or NZ?
mack Posted June 25, 2019 Author Posted June 25, 2019 He's capped for NZ. Nz born with Indian parents. LeeMarvin 1

MathyouWSW Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 Singh's transfer's fee was approximately 800,000 euros. That's roughly 1.25 million NZD/AUD. That's going to help Nix. They've got Marinovic which only had one goal last season so he'll be rusty as. I wonder if Talay is going to use him as 1st choice goalkeeper? They have also signed Devlin from the Smurfs. It'll be interested to see if he'll get some game time. Smurfs barely used him. I also wonder if any other will follow Talay from the Smurfs to Phoenix.
