Another new striker signed.

https://ccmariners.com.au/news/mariners-sign-brazilian-forward-ronald-barcellos-on-loan-from-portimonense

The Central Coast Mariners are delighted to announce the arrival of Brazilian attacker Ronald Barcellos, on a loan deal until the end of the season from Portuguese first division club Portimonense.

The 21-year-old can play all across the front third, bolstering Mark Jackson’s forward options.

Barcellos was born in Belford Roxo, Rio de Janeiro, initially catching the eye of Brazilian giants Flamengo when competing in the ‘Favelas Cup’ at a young age.

Ronald was offered a 2-year-deal from 2019 to 2021 to play in their U17’s, where he would develop his power and explosiveness to accompany his natural vision, agility and skill.

Prior to his move to Europe, Barcellos also spent time in the academies of Brazilian top tier sides Vasco da Gama and Gremio.

This season, Barcellos has made eight appearances in the Liga Revelação, Portugal’s U23 league, scoring two goals.

The young forward is excited to get started on the Central Coast, looking forward to the remainder of the season.

“I am very thankful for the opportunity to play for this amazing club. I am going to work hard for the team to help us achieve the results that we want this season,” he said.

“I am coming here fresh and ready to go, in my short time in Australia so far I have settled in well and I’m ready to play. I look forward to making my debut for the Mariners at our incredible stadium in front of our fans.”

Central Coast Mariners Football Manager Mark Jackson is thrilled to have the young Brazilian join the squad.

“Ronald is a great addition to the squad for the remainder of the season. As a club we have looked at him a lot and have spoken to him and his coaches regularly. The relationship between us, Portimonense and the player has been building over a large period of time now,” Jackson said.

“We know a lot about him, he has huge potential, and we as a club can be a part of his journey. He will help the squad this season with his ability, and we can help him in return. We are excited to have him here as a part of the team.”

Barcellos has been added to our match day 20-player squad for today’s game against Melbourne City, with the Brazilian eligible to play. He will wear the number 22.

Geez, Midfielder, keep up!  That's old news, we've just watched him play against City.

Looks like both ex-Wanderers Academy players Miguel and Gianni di Pizio have departed from the Mariners. Miguel did a trial at Danish club AGF back in 2023 and had gained interest. It was announced during the Mariners vs City match that he as apparently signed to the club. However, he'll be loaned back to the Mariners for the remainder of the season.

Gianni departed the Mariners at the start of the season and has signed to NSW NPL club Sydney Olympic.

Very long article first bit copied.

Isuzu UTE A-League champions Central Coast Mariners have signed English striker Ryan Edmondson from the UK.

The 22-year-old former Leeds United forward makes the move to Gosford from English League One outfit Carlisle United.

It also means a reunion with Mariners boss Mark Jackson after the pair worked together in Leeds’ academy, while ex-coaches Danny Schofield and Andres Clavijo are also part of Central Coast’s staff.

During his time at Leeds, Edmondson was handed his first-team debut by Marcelo Bielsa two weeks before his 17th birthday in the 2017-18 EFL Championship and featured again the following season.

Interesting Ronald Barcellos [one of our new signings], is on loan from Portimonense, in his brief stink last night he has magic feet, can turn on a five cent piece and is very nippy, with Ronny on the right and Torres on the left its going to be interesting.

This is a one to watch partnership, and unlike most partnerships with overseas clubs, they have sent one of their best juniors to us for further development.....

https://ccmariners.com.au/news/central-coast-mariners-announce-partnership-with-portuguese-first-division-club-portimonense-sad

The Central Coast Mariners are delighted to announce an official partnership with Liga Portugal club Portimonense SAD.

Currently playing in the first division of Portuguese football, the club hold a proud tradition of producing top quality talent through both their academy and first team systems.

This partnership is aimed to mutually drive youth development for both clubs, as well as the overall growth of Portimonense and the Mariners.

The deal will see promising Central Coast players have an opportunity to transition into Portuguese first division football, one of the top leagues in Europe, while the Mariners will gain access to talented players from Portimonense SAD to bolster our squad.

This has already began with the loan signing of Ronald Barcellos, announced last Saturday, with the aim to aid both clubs in their respective divisions, as well as to help our players continue their football development.

Central Coast Mariners Sporting Director Matt Simon is pleased to be partnered with Portimonense and is excited to work with them.

“To be able to work closely with a club of Portimonense’s pedigree is extremely exciting and an opportunity that we are greatly looking forward to,” Simon said.

“We are clubs who see youth development as extremely important and to be able to work together on this will only benefit us both.”

Chairman of Central Coast Mariners, Richard Peil, is also excited by the opportunity, stating:

“We’d love to own a network of clubs to be able to help players progress their careers and maximise their value, but that is just not realistic. This is the next best thing. The relationship with Portimonense is an important step in our progression to becoming a self-funding football club.”

Representatives of Portimonense’s elite coaching squad are due to visit the Central Coast Mariners Centre of Excellence in February this year, to begin work on the partnership.

My preference was Ben  Cahn

Apparently Mark he did a great job with Leeds U23's. He would have been working with some seriously good young players there.

His connections will be amazing.

I can only assume that RP was involved the the final decision.....

RP, does have Football Knowledge, and the best interests the club at heart.

The academy is at the heart of our club, and Marks appointment aliens to maintaining this thinking.

Mark had a team he coached relegated. However, he joined them whilst they were already in the relegation zone. And missed safety by 1 point…. 2 more points and he’d be celebrated for keeping a basket case club in league 1.

Give him until mid season to make a knowledgeable judgement on whether he is a good choice or not.

We had 296 applications of which one was from Dwright York, so it appears quite a process took place.

Hope for us and the league as a whole he is a good appointment.

Pity that the 'best model' isn't translating into good crowds currently.

Yer its a pity .... think our final average this season will be in the mid 8 k, those five years we played the kind would say poorly, lost us a lot of fans from northern Sydney locations who had followed the Northern Spirit to Gosford.... they have never returned.... according to our new maybe owner we need an average of 8K to break even, so we are close to getting there...

Also as a % of population we are number one, say we average 8.5 / 320 thats about 2.6/2.7% of the local population which I understand to be the highest.

Mariners in for a big month with AFC cup restarting and this month is going to be massive for them should they progress it may be the only thing that slows them down from winning the comp outright.

Hope so, but a couple of injuries and we miss the six.

Interesting we have made 5 grand finals in 18 or 28%, which is not bade for the smallest club

Interesting what you say about the Northern Sydney supporters and I wonder what they do now....effectively, in your heyday you probably had a core support of around 12-15k but now down to maybe 4-5k. You'll need big crowds against Sydney and us to get that 8.5k average

Our core support was at best around 9K, with fills ins coming to add extras.

It fell towards the end down to around 4.5 K

Has lifted back up to about 6K.

In that five year period  as a club we totally lost it, IMO towards the end a good NPL side have beaten us, but apart from the on field performance [sorry lack of] our coaches stopped doing a lot of community connections things as a club we do all the time. Okon was by far worst, in this regard, when had in Lyall Gorman a very community minded CEO, followed by Lawrie Mac, and then we got a CEO from Brisbane who said all the community stuff was a waste of time and money,  he stopped most of it.

We then got Shaun Mielekamp as CEO from you guys and we got back to being a community club again.

The aim is to get to 8K by  the end of next year as our core support.

You are right that we need good crowds against SFC & WSW to lift us to 8.5.

Out of interest, love your thoughts on this, we get a lot of crack times i.e. 15:00 on a Sunday afternoon in a regional beach location... Your thoughts, the MLS and Apple in looking at their schedule made an interesting decisions.... all games to be either on a Saturday or Wednesday [for make up rounds]. ... given Apple is a subscription service and does not need ratings per match like Fox or a FTA, they are only interested in subscriptions so they created a Football day, and Saturday was the best night for crowds and families.

interesting from the Mariners, I am unaware of anyone else doing this

https://bnnbreaking.com/sports/central-coast-mariners-appoint-reggie-davani-as-head-of-international-football-development-to-foster-pacific-talent

Central Coast Mariners appoint Reggie Davani, a prominent figure in Pacific football, as head of international football development to foster talent in the region. With Davani's extensive experience and deep understanding of the Pacific sporting landscape, the Mariners aim to create opportunities for Pacific players in the Australian A-League.

In an ambitious stride toward fostering football talent in the Pacific region, the Central Coast Mariners have announced the appointment of Reggie Davani, a prominent figure in Pacific football, as their new head of international football development. This move underscores the Mariners' commitment to carving a substantial presence in the Pacific, leveraging Davani's extensive experience and celebrated career. As a former Papua New Guinea international player and the country's all-time top goal scorer, Davani brings to the table not just his football acumen but a deep understanding of the region's sporting landscape.

Pioneering Pacific Partnerships
The addition of Reggie Davani as the Technical Director of the Central Coast Mariners' academy teams marks a significant chapter in the club's history. With players like Brian Kaltak, the captain of Vanuatu, and Dan Hall, a potential Fiji international, bolstering the Mariners' defense, the club's roster already reflects a strong Pacific influence. However, Davani's appointment aims to go beyond mere representation on the field. By targeting the development of young talent from the Pacific, the Mariners are not just scouting for future stars; they are investing in the growth of football in a region ripe with potential. Davani's role will extend to coaching at the Central Coast Sports College, a crucial institution for the Mariners' academy players, ensuring a holistic approach to nurturing talent.

Building Bridges through Football
The Central Coast Mariners' strategy is clear: to become the Australian A-League's hub for Pacific talent. This vision is already coming to fruition with the club's current lineup, but with Davani at the helm of its international development, the Mariners are poised to deepen their ties with the Pacific. The appointment is not just about finding the next big player; it's about creating a pathway for Pacific players to shine on the international stage. Davani's dual role as Technical Director and coach at Central Coast Sports College is a testament to the Mariners' integrated approach to development, emphasizing the importance of not only identifying but also cultivating talent.

A Future Forged Together
The Mariners' commitment to the Pacific region represents a broader ambition within the world of football: to make the sport truly global by tapping into underrepresented areas. With Reggie Davani leading the charge, the Central Coast Mariners are not just scouting for talent; they are crafting a narrative of hope, opportunity, and mutual growth. The initiative to integrate Pacific talent into the Australian A-League, spearheaded by a figure as influential as Davani, sets a precedent for how clubs can play a pivotal role in the global development of football. It's a story of ambition, strategy, and the unifying power of sport.

In conclusion, the Central Coast Mariners' appointment of Reggie Davani as head of international football development is more than a strategic move; it's a statement of intent. Through Davani's leadership, the Mariners aim to not only enrich their team with Pacific talent but also contribute to the sport's growth in the region. This initiative highlights the club's commitment to fostering talent and underscores the potential of football to bridge cultures and communities. As the Mariners forge ahead with their vision, the Pacific region watches with anticipation, hopeful for the opportunities and pathways that this partnership will bring to its aspiring footballers.

That’s what has to be done if you want to win it. We had a similar run at the end of 2014 when we won the ACL.

Plus, because football here is run by a bunch of absolute belters, we had a run of away derby, two leg ACL final including a trip to Saudi Arabia, Nix away, Perth away. Then for the Club World Cup it was Adelaide away, a couple of games in Morocco, and Nix away again.

Didn't see this one coming but; "Long serving Central Coast Mariners CEO Shaun Mielekamp has announced that he will step down from his role."

Shaun has done so so much for the Mariners, and for the game, and I'm so glad CCM experienced much success with him there.

He helped turn that club around after the crappola that was put up by Charlesworth and made that club run on nothing but oily rags.

Astute appointments of Stajcic then Montgomery helped the club immensely

Sad day for us.... hope he is not lost to Football, equally would hate to see him at another A-L club.

Shaun is one of the best men in the game.

Wanderers haven’t been the same club off the field since he and Ben Trupiano left us a few years in.

He needs to be running football in this country.

He gets it. He gets everything about it.

Absolutely. For those who weren't on the forum back then, they both had accounts here and would answer questions and contribute when it was appropriate.

They didn't just say they cared about fans opinions, they actually asked.
