Their argument seemed valid - re Covid safe etc. How is it valid? they were admitted to the league in part as they said they would not impact the crowds of the existing teams as long term they would base in west of Melbourne and short term they would play in Geelong. The Geelong ground is Covid safe wendybr 1

mack Posted November 21, 2020 Author Posted November 21, 2020 The A-League could have added Team 11, South Melbourne, Wollongong, Canberra or the Cronulla bid with Craig Foster on the board and any of them would have been more viable than WU. MathyouWSW, Smoggy, wendybr and 2 others 5

As to the Southern Expansion Bid, the Smurfs were deadset against a club on their doorstep. The bigger issue was the scrutiny that Foster would have applied to the FFA (Lowy and Gallop) as a Club Board member. StringerBellend 1

MathyouWSW Posted November 29, 2020 Posted November 29, 2020 (edited) Western United had a trial match against Melbourne City, lost 2-1. I'm only writing this on WU's thread as they had some players on trail: - AYOM AYOM MAJOK: Mentioned about him before, he currently plays for SA NPL club Cumberland United could be signed to the club - KRISTIAN TRAJCESKI: The attacking midfielder was previously played for 3rd tier Portuguese club FC Oliveira do Hospital. - CHUDIAR THARJIATH: Signed with NPL Victoria 3 club Ballarat City. He had a trial with Melbourne City in 2019 and was unsuccessful - ALEX BAKER: Another player from NPL Victoria 3 club Ballarat City, had a trial with Brisbane Roar Youth last year and was unsuccessful - STEFAN ZINNI: Well, I think we all know him since he is a former Wanderers player. The winger is currently signed to NPL Victoria club Avondale - NICK (NICHOLAS) SETTE: Was originally from Victory's youth squad but got signed to Altona Magic in January 2020. Mostly plays as a winger - JALIL REGAGUE: Also currently signed with NPL Victoria 3 club Ballarat City, He also had a trial with Brisbane Roar Youth alongside Alex Baker and was unsuccessful Couldn't find anything about Leighton Laughton Edited November 29, 2020 by MathyouWSW

So apparently...his name is actually Leighton Lauton He currently plays with Ballarat City FC and might be related to Melbourne Victory's Brenton Lauton. That's really embarrassing for Western United to have his name incorrectly on their starting list.
MathyouWSW Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 Western United have had 24 year old Gavin De Niese on trial. Apparently, he has been playing a few years in Portugal with some 3rd tier and 4th tier clubs and was apart of River Plate's youth in his teens. He had a trial with Melbourne City back in 2016 and was unsuccessful.
Paul01 Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Looks like Rudan has raided our academy signing 18yo Nicolas Milanovic. Anyone know much about him?

Edinburgh Posted February 1, 2021 Posted February 1, 2021 We might have to put our scepticism aside for a couple of days https://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/western-united-aim-for-stadium-to-be-completed-for-2023-women-s-world-cup wendybr 1
mack Posted February 2, 2021 Author Posted February 2, 2021 Getting ready by the WWC is going to be a tall order. The WSW stadium managed to be below 2 years (counting from the start of the foundation, for WU I'm assuming the preparation won't be significant on an empty field) but that was done by the Government and included a lot of overtime to get things ready (and even then it was still not fully done by the time it opened). WU's stadium is being built by a private group so the cash is going to be tighter.
pseudonym Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 It would be cool if it was completed but I'm not expecting it to be ready wendybr 1
MathyouWSW Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 So basically, it's going to look EXACTLY like Bankwest Stadium. F*ck off... Unlimited 1
mack Posted February 3, 2021 Author Posted February 3, 2021 At half the size it'd be more like the Gold Coast Stadium that our stadium was expanded into. One main grandstand with the boxes & corporate facilities and the rest being smaller single tiers stands as opposed to our double tiers.
MathyouWSW Posted February 24, 2021 Posted February 24, 2021 Western United announcing they'll have two games at York Park in Launceston, Tasmania for this season and next season: Feels like a punch in the gut to Tasmania in my opinion. But, it'll be good for them to have some games there.
Smoggy Posted February 24, 2021 Posted February 24, 2021 Launceston would be a good away trip, know the place quite well.
